Watching the US open and their insane drives got me thinking. What is your longest drive ever!?

mine is 315 around at Battlefield. Hit a downward slope and it kept going!

I hit one about 450 in Florida, on a very long par 5, I had L wedge in.

I hit a High Draw off of a cart path.

Last year I had the luckiest bounce I've ever had on a course. I was playing the Osprey course at Clovelly (outside St. Johns, NF). On one par 5 (520+ yards), I hit my driver. One of the guys in the group in front heard it hit a sprinkler head, then a downslope. I had a PW (140 yards) to the green. I got so excited, I missed the 5 footer for eagle!!

18th at Royal Woodbine 365yards or so. Hit one high on the face of a R5 Dual TP and it just kept flying. Fairways were firm and its down hill. Done it a couple times there.

Longest without wind or downhill etc.. is about 300 every so often.

I have lost alot that were HUGE though!:D

OK don't laugh. 250 yards. I had one go as far I think as 260 or 270 but I'm not sure as it went in to a water hazard so I couldn't be sure.

320 on the cartpath (was actually my first time ever playing, got on the first tee and got 5 very lucky bounces).
270 on a downhill when i could hit my driver.

368 on the 18th at Deer Field last August. Hole plays 566 from the back. Was a nice warm day with a light breeze behind us with a Lady Pinnacle. Carried almost the whole way and ended up 2 yards past the 200 yrd marker.

From Edmonton, straight through to Toronto... no sleep, and just stopping for food, coffee, and gas. I slept for 2 days when I got home.
Seriously, last year I had a really, really bad hole....on the next tee I said to my playing partners that this next swing was going to be in anger...BOOM ! It flew about 290, and rolled another 30 yards....the ball was never more than 20 feet off the ground, and it came to rest against the red 100 yard marker....I soon after tapped in for bogey....lol:rolleyes:

Love all the postings. Sounds like fishing stories. I once caught a fish it was this big ..................

My friends and I are happy if we hit it 200 yards. But I once had a 502 yard hole-in-one.

Hit it 200 yards. A bird picked it up and dropped it 75 yards from the hole, Then a groundhog picked it up and carried it to 25 yards from the hole, where a squirrel picked it up and carried it to 1/256th of an inch from the hole, where finally a worm pushed it in the hole.

Edit:
OK - I have to come clean. The worm only moved the ball halfway to the hole, and I three putted

we drove to Florida a couple of times as a family...

uh, a couple drives in the very low 300's - but that was a combination of hitting it on the screws and getting a decent bounce. I'm just happy if it goes generally where I'm aiming. as we all know gentleman - it's not all about length...

Got my first 300yarder for the season yesterday. 306yrds at Bayview GCC 16th... unfortunately it was downhill, downwind. :(

I hit one 395 "as the crow flies" once onto the aprun of a 420 yard hole. But without a laser range finder it's hard to know how far it really went - likely about 330 when you factor in that I cut the corner of a dogleg.

Not my drive but my father-in-law.....playing in Spain on a par 3 uphill 180 yards......he hits a massive snap hook that cleared the trees on the left and started going down the severe slope of another fairway, he ended up with 245 yards "back" to the green, so my reckoning that made it a 425 yard 5 iron.

I hit one on #16 at Paris Grand that lasered 290 back to a guy on tee box. From my ball I lasered Mike's ball at 66 yards past me making his 356.

This is not out of the ordinary for him either. He's my favourite scramble partner. :D

considering I don't use drivers..i'll just go by my 3 wood..

i rarely measure my drives...

but the one time I did was because it was the ladies long drive challenge hole...

I hit 200 with my 3 wood. It got nice bounces on the cart path and then kicked inward to just make it on the fairway....I figure that if I needed the lucky bounces to get to 200...that's probably one of the longest drives I ever hit...however....that did came during a time when i was very low in confidence in my woods...as I was shanking them like there's no tomorrow..

oh and in case you were wondering...i did win the challenge.. :P

Under normal playing conditions it is 364, at the 12th hole at Trafalgar in Milton (and made eagle). With a strong helping wind I put one over the green on a 380 yard hole. On firm fairways 300+ is not uncommon...

The only one I've been able to verify was last year at Taboo.. can't remember which hole but there was no wind, flat flat fairway and I just smashed it 295y, verified by GPS. I have been hitting over 300 since last year but driving range isnt the same as on the course. I went for a green on a short par4 dogleg yesterday, registered 287 on the laserfinder and got the distance just right but i ended up about 15 feet left of the green in the rough.. had there been flat fairway there it would have been 300+ easily.. :)

375 yards on a 500 yard par 5. I was exactly 25 paces from the 150 and 100 yard markers. It was a level fairway, slight wind behind me, firm fairways and a Dunlop titanium ball and I struck it pure. Driver was a knockoff Taylormade head and a proforce shaft. I never realized that I would hit my longest drives consistantly with that driver

Missed the eagle putt, but got the birdie.:)

Today at Station Creek South number 13 from back tees slightly into the wind had 25 yards coming in. Its a dogleg left measuring 435 so around 410. As well on number 6 399 yard par 4 drove it equal to the green but to the right in the fairway so maybe something like 360 just guessing never really measured.

Early this year at Glencairn number 8 on lethfield or whatever its called. Hit it to about 95 yards hole measures 499 striaght away. Wind was helping and theres a big big slope in the fairway.

Last year, second hole on the south nine at York downs. 369 yard par 4 straight away with an elevated green. Landed it on the green and rolled off the back. No wind and a a very humid day.

For those of you who know the Cardinal range, when practicing drivers I can hit those crappy range balls into and over the trees at the back. I've been told thats around a good 300 yards so that can kinda give you an idea.

I've been known to hit some pretty long drives. When my swing is on I can hit a going hook on demand and it WILL go. If you give me dry fairways even more so. I will usually have at least one really long ball a round but on a normal straightaway flat hole with no wind or doglegs or anything I probably hit the ball around 315 and can give it a little more if I wanted to.

This weekend up at Deerhurst Lakeside. Hole #7 is an elevated tee par 5 measuring 485 from the Blues....Lined up a perfect drive and cranked one. All I had was 115 into the pin....Total drive distance was 370 yds (Sure it was an elevated tee but I'll take it!). for me personally there is a 398 yard par 4 on a course i play that is reachable ( slightly downhill ) always a good wind behind you.
on very rare occassions when the wind is in your face its tough to reach in 2 :) ..you have to keep your drive very very low into the wind if it has switched.

but i did once see a guy drive a 570 yard par 5...........but unfortunately for him he lost the hole!

there is a course near me and a main road runs right through the centre of it ( it is fenced off to stop stray golf balls taking out cars :D )

but i was playing the par 5 there and a ball rolled onto the green!
i was a bit annoyed but i couldnt see any1 behind us so i knew nobody had deliberately hit at the green whilst we were putting!

a few minutes later 4 guys got to the green and we had a slight hold up at the next tee ( tricky par 3 over water ) and they saw the ball on the green and the story was told!
a guy hit his tee shot over the fence it must have ran all the way up the road then wether it was hit by a car or just rolled it cameback over the fence 570 yards later with his markings on it.

it was genuine too - we had seen them behind us earlier in the round and he didnt hit it off the fairway as i looked back to see who had hit at the green and they werent on the fairway!

anyways he had taken a drop and declared his ball lost so i had to point out which was his original ball and which was the ball in play ( both were the same ball type with the same markings on) :D

after driving the green for 1 he took a 9 :( oh well thats golf!

I am not a big hitter and have only been able to hit driver since last season.

Anyway, #2 at Tangle Creek read 345 from the golds (sort of downhill to the hole). I hit it 15 yards short of the green so I figure it was maybe 315 yards. I made birdie on the hole to seal the deal. Actually, I made four birdies that day, one of the best rounds I have ever played.

This past Saturday I was playing at Mystic and was playing the Hydra tees for a Duffers event. The 9th hole had 427 yards on the plate on the tee. There was about 40-50 yards of fairway AFTER the 150 marker and I hit my drive to far and ran out of fairway. Crunching the numbers it would indicate my drive was 327 yards. Now....the fairway was crusty hard, but I still couldn't believe I ran out of fairway. I can hit it pretty good off the tee, usually around 280, but I was shocked and amazed that I ran out of fairway on that hole.

On the 17th I hit my drive past the 150 marker on a par 5, but cut off a huge amount of yardage by carrying the water hazzard.

I can drive the 9th on DV and the 16th if the tees are up top. The last time playing Tam I hit a perfect drive on 10 and was 180 yards out.

Found a hole that sets up for lifetime drives perfectly, and was lucky enough to hit one. 9th hole at Duntroon Highlands outside Collingwood. Huge elevation from the tee, hitting from close to top of the hill, stiff wind from the back. Hole on card measures either 415 or 420, ended up in the throat of the fairway entering the green, maybe 30 yards short of the green, so will roughly estimate drive at about 375 or so, give or take. Problem was there is a pond you have to carry, which I thought was going to be a good long carry, so I spent the whole time watching the pond for a splash and never saw it land well past the pond and finish. so no clue on how much carry. Playing partner told me where it was and I didn't believe it until we got up there and saw it. Beat my previous long drive in a dry winter in Florida where my ball rolled 100 yards into a greenside bunker on 340 yard hole. Sure it was hugely wind assisted, but the conditions take so much away from you in golf, the when they benefit you, you might as well enjoy it. I do tend to hit the ball long when my body cooperates and doesn't "try" to hit it long (not that often, I usually get in my own way) , but 300 or so in benign conditions is generally my max out point.

If you want a career drive, give Duntroon a try on a windy day and look forward to #9. Take my word for it, the elevation and prevailing wind make carrying the pond apparently much easier then it looks from the tee box. But then you get to go to the idiotic 10th hole, which will kill your high from crushing the drive on 9 very quickly. My suggestion, get a beer at the turn and enjoy it before you are forced to hack it around the horrible hole designs that are #10 and #11, (or better yet, sign up for 9 holes and just walk off then and gloat in the clubhouse).

Wow, so many long hitters. Here's your chance...

The path to Mesquite for the World Long Drive Championship is relatively short

- qualify at a local competition, like below (they take approximately the top 10% of hitters)
- place at the district level (Ontario Districts in September)
- hit under the lights in Mesquite for a cut of the $500,000 purse

Contrary to popular belief, these competitions require USGA approved/legal clubs. They must conform in length, size, and COR.
If you can "sting" a ball out 300yards, you have a shot at the qualifier. It's a great chance to see how far you can really hit the ball. Where else can you find a 380+ yard fairway to hit into with guys armed with walkie-talkies calling back your true distances?

I hope to see you there.
Cheers!
Mike.

THis past Saturday I was playing at Willow Valley and the 13th hole was a 465 yard par 5. Now.....the course was very dried out, and it did slope downhill and we had a 15-20 m.p.h. wind at our back. I hit the drive and it was PURE, as good as I can hit it. When I walked up to the ball it was 3 yards past the 100 yard marker.

I proceeded to chunk my 100 yard approach shot but still made the bird. That is the furthest I have ever hit one by probably a good 40 yards. It was cool though!

Nope....would have though with the eagle. I was pretty p/o'd chunking a gap wedge after a drive like that. No skins for me last weekend. Only 2 birds and both holes saw birds from other players so they carried over. Someone must have won, but it wasn't me.

my longest is a measley 322, paltry by comparison to some of the big hitters here apparently...for some reason my yardages don't spread out as evenly as they should in theory. Driver averages 270-280, but 3 wood is 270-280 as well, and 3 iron 220-250... maybe a new swing fitting's in order... but im not here to talk about myself, i wanted to mention a young kid i saw playing yesterday at Settlers' Ghost in Barrie. 20 year old kid from Spain here on a US golf scholarship, his older brother is a PGA touring pro... Anyway, kid's willowy thin, 20 years old, looks like he's never shaven in his life... steps up to the first hole, tees it up from the golds... hole is 364 yards INTO THE WIND, UPHILL. He drives the green (carrying it, no roll, plops it right on the green) with 15 people (including my wife and I) watching in awe. His name escapes me, but he's a future PGA phenom i'm sure.

Generally I can fly the ball about 250-260 in the air, so don't feel so bad. For me anyway last weekend I figured I got an extra 20 yards in the air with the 20 m.ph. wind at my back and then about an extra 60 yards because the fairway was so hard. I really hit the drive perfect as well, so it was the combination of the 3 factors that gave me the extra 80-100 yards over what is "normal" for me.

My driver ss is in the 110 - 120 range on average and I keep track of my distances (with GPS when available) and I average about 280 off the tee, carry and roll.

When I am on I will usually get 2 or 3 a round over 300.

I guess that a couple of my longest in recent memory have been at Eagles Nest and Markland Wood.....I have had 2 at Eagles over 350 ( hard fairways) and a couple the same at Markland.

I won an $800 skin in a tournament last August when I carried a 310 yard par four to 2 and 1/2 feet or so. :D

I have played with Setter02 ( as did Greywolf) and the young lad can kill it pretty long.....but at he is only 25 .........I am over 20 years his senior.

In fact at the TGN tourney we started on the LD hole, dead into the wind and were not much further back than the LD eneded up and the hole was playing down wind and from the right when it was hit ( we witnessed it in the last or second last group)

r...Setter would very well likely have carried it to where that was....he certainly wanted to go and hit one with the wind

BTW I am only 5 foot 5 ...so size means dyck ......I do play a 46 inch driver though

5'7", 150 pounds (possibly less), my longest ever is 331 2 days ago with a hurricane at my back. I also had a 283 yard 3 hybrid shot (which is why I hit driver the next hole going the same direction... just curious, and I happened to spank it real good). I also had a 303 yard drive on the back nine that same round, which would have been my longest ever as well if it wasn't for the 331-yarder 10 holes before. My next longest is 293 with a slight tailwind, but nothing like the hurricane I had with me 2 days ago. I've had a couple 280+ pokes, but the majority are between 250 and 280 on good drives

I have hit a couple around 300 yards, give or take a few yards. Not bad for a lady but I would say that I average 240-250 when hitting straight and not straight into the trees!

:eek::eek: :help::help:

And we're playing in the same group this Sat at King's Valley right?

Maybe I'll just leave all my woods at home and loudly proclaim that "I'm working on my iron game and course management today". :$

The way I've been hitting my driver the last couple of weeks I'll be hitting my driver 200 yards start into the trees!! (or whatever is on the right side of the fairway...) So anyone on the right side of me! Watch out!

. What is your longest drive ever!?!
i'd say about 245 yards. i hit it on the screws at markham green's 489-yard par 5.
leavin' me a little over 244 yards to the green. .. thinkin' i could repeat that 'career shot' and reach the green in '2', i went with driver off the deck for my 2nd shot.

Today at Mill Run 383 down hill par 4 hit it to the middle of the green just on the fringe, so that is basically 380 :)

I hit a ridiculously high ball so i carry 300+ but doesn't roll to far thereafter, good for clearing trees

About 5 years ago I played Paris Grand for the first time and drove the green on #10 from the black tee's.There was a foursome on the green putting, and my ball hit a guy's shoe that was waiting to putt.I did yell fore, but they did not even look back.My group caught up to them on the next hole, and as I apoligized to the group, for hitting into them, the one guy cut me off,and said,"anybody who can drive this green from the back tee's (about 360 I think)does not need to apoligize to anybody!"Probably the longest level ground drive I ever hit,and that was with a 975D:D

I have played with Setter02 ( as did Greywolf) and the young lad can kill it pretty long.....but at he is only 25 .........I am over 20 years his senior.

In fact at the TGN tourney we started on the LD hole, dead into the wind and were not much further back than the LD eneded up and the hole was playing down wind and from the right when it was hit ( we witnessed it in the last or second last group)

are ya talking about the Bondhead tourny? if so, I gotta call BS on your part brother, which I am thinking you are talking about, I won that LD and we were the 2nd last group, the only reason I call BS, is because I outdrove the person who had the LD by over 30 yards..... and if you say you were the 1st group to play that hole, and I know for a fact that the long drive was changed about 6 times, judging by the 6 different names on the sheet b4 I signed my name! Also the wind was comming from left to right, wasn't really helping... nor was it hurting...( I remember that because I hit a high fade and rode the wind a bit...) If your not talking about the Bondhead tourny, then sorry brother........

No BS....ask our fine moderator Greywolf you played with us........ it was the Bond Head tourney...we watched your tee shot Lime Green Pants.:hush: ...not saying that it was not a good long drive it was a bomb and congrats on the win.

but when we played the hole it was dead straight into the wind and we hit it almost to the top of the hill.....after what 30 other groups and only 6 moves...one which I witnessed and complained about when we were on the adjacent hole was a cheat advance ( and it was not me that had the ld at that point but the guy blatentley moved the marker beyond when he was at least two yrads behined)

the wind was from right to keft hard and a behind...I know as I almost drove the 400 yard plus hole that is before the LD hole...

in any event all I know is that Setter 02 was killing tha ball and with a bit of a helping R-L wind we would have loved to have had a chance to hit the power fade and carry it up on top....like you...

hey champ no worries...luck of the draw to get the LD hole firrst or second last....I went home happy...I won the Bond Head membership LOL!!!!!

I think that he is going in the LD qualifier so maybe try your luck against him there...me , I am a senior in LD so cant compete against you:D ...

Just blew away my personal-best longest drive. Drove the 6th green at Blue Springs today using my new TM SuperQuad. Straight as an arrow for 346 yards.

Honest, never stopped once at Tim's, mind you it was long before the explosion of Timmy's franchises from Southern Ontario to all across Canada! :D

I could never make that claim right now, I need my Timmy's fix as much as anyone.

360 ish yards on the 18th hole at Sun Rivers. Played from the tips, the hole is 505 yards. The tee box was at the same spot where they measure distance from and I hit about 140 yards from the middle of the green. 18th at Sun Rivers is uphill as well.
