Anyone else agree this company has to be the biggest scam in the province? I don't/haven't used the 407 in months and they I have me on the hook for like $90 outstanding and have a "collections agency" after me. I've even heard rumors that CDCL isn't even a collections agency, it's one of their own companies formed to do their collections.
I'm sick of getting numerous bills for micropayments each month and having interest accrue on it because I'm too lazy to make a payment for $2 or whatever the hell it is.
I can't wait to close this account but the thing is their office is way the hell out in the west end and I can't really justify taking time off work just to deal with this mess.
It's funny how they have little booths in every mall for you to sign up with, but if you have any problems you gotta travel across the city to their headoffice. I can't even cancel this thing over the phone and mail them back their damn transponder.
To think that I pay them a monthly charge to put a device in my car that they can use (if they really wanted to) to track my whereabouts whenever they want. The nerve! They should be paying me for the priviledge of having that kind of data at their disposal.
I'm going to find time to return this god forsaken thing this summer and I will hopefully never use the 407ETR again.

They've done away with those booths a long tim ago bro...and if you want to close your account and get rid of the transponder, you can do so by sending it by Canada Post xPress Post wrapped in tinfoil, or the same can be done using Purolator or UPS.
But by all means, please let your account accrue as it's my fianceés pension you are paying into brother. :p :D

Wrapped in tinfoil? Why?
I don't know why people complain about the 407. I really like it. Pay a few bucks and skip the traffic. 407 plus the 403 HOV lane has made my morning commute from Burlington to TO almost bearable!

Wrapped in tinfoil? Why?
Was recommended by the CSR I spoke with from the 407, when I had to return one that was giving me problems. She said it was simply precautionary, as some carriers like UPS a Purolator use the 407 daily and if the transponder was just sitting in an envelope riding around in the truck all day, I could end up with some crazy charges....she said the tinfoil would interrupt the signal.
Imagine getting a bill from an entire day of your unit riding around in a UPS truck and trying to fight that charge...

Wayland, sorry to hear you're having probs with the 407 people. Like Focal, my GF works 2 blocks off the 407 in Bramalea and we live 1km from an exit in Markham. It's a necessary evil for her as well. I just wish she'd take my truck to work instead of her SVT Contour. I have Louisiana plates and don't pay at all with the truck. But, alas, she'd rather pay than give up her Contour.

I have one simple rule about driving in the GTA....I will NOT drive on the 401....I will pay whatever the 407 wants just to stay off the 401.
Once the 407 charged me a monthly charge for a trip to Markham around 9 pm and charged me a monthly charge when I came back just after midnight. Fought them over that 'cuz trolls are stubborn but it really wasn't worth the fight.

It is a must but the whole deal from the start was terrible.

It was quite a while ago, but I'm pretty sure I cancelled by phone and they sent me a kit to mail them back the transponder when I moved from Burlington to Ottawa.
I used to commute from Burlington to Markham every day for 9 months - I couldn't have done it without the 407. But yeah, it is a license to print money.
You might want to get this sorted out sooner rather than later. I think they can eventually nail you when it comes time to renew your license...

Doesnt it piss you guys off to know that our tax dollars built the damn highway and we're the only ones who have to pay to use it ????
And Yeah WAYLAND, they are their own collections agency too.
Too bad they keep lousy records as well.

I Love the 407 :p...
Get your bill online at your banks website, couldn't get any easier. Nicely designed presentation of the invoice as well if I do say so myself. :D

I got a bill yesterday telling me I owed them nothing:confused:
I already knew that. Maybe the rates could come down if the stopped sending foolish notices like that.

Sign up for e-billing ........they would love it if you skipped the "paper" and went "digital"

My major beef with the 407 etr is the per km charges are too darn high! 17.6 cents per km is highway robbery. As a comparison, the NY Thruway is like 2.2 cents (CAD) per km. I know you can't compare apples to oranges but... the difference in per km charges are way too high to make any sense.
I can't really complain about the 407etr's customer service. It's not any better or worse than getting a hold of somebody at Rogers/Bell or any other company with a quasi-monopoly.

The rare time I'm down there I like it but it is sad that such a cash cow was sold off as a smoke screen to pretend the budget was being balanced back then. Of course the budget wasn't balanced, whatever they got for the highway vanished into bureaucratic waste and the 407 reniged on all agreements. Other than that it was a sweet deal for the taxpayer, eh?

pay your bills online. It doesn't get any easier.
as for the $0.00 bills, that kinda makes me laugh, but if you figure how many of those are sent, there's gotta be a lot of $ wasted on that.

For some reason, even though I signed up for e-billing they STILL send me the paper bill as well as the email. I've tried to get them to stop but apparantly the system isn't capable of stopping the mailings.

Too bad it's not even owned by a Canadian Consortium.
