The reason i don't like her is that she couldn't win on the LPGA yet she had the audacity to try and compete on the PGA.

WHO THE DOES SHE THINK SHE IS????

HOPE SHE DIES A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH (in her golf career)!!!!!!

As one of the more "VOCAL" people when it comes to Miss Wie I will say this. I do not hate her as a person. How the hell can you hate someone you never met in person?

Like Harry, I dislike the way she has been "HANDLED" by her parents and management team. Trying to make the cuts in PGA Events, instead of concentrating on the LPGA.

More so, having a 15 year old girl turn Pro and not allowing her to enjoy her teenage years as a GIRL. Think of the fun she would have had playing college golf. Sure she has said she wants the challenge of PRO Golf. However she is not mentally strong enough to handle this IMO. Someone can be a great ball striker, which she is when she is healthy. But that does not make them a PRO Player, for that you need the mental fortitude.

Hopefully with this weeks announcement that she will not play at The Deere is the start of her "TEAM" figuring out she has to concentrate on LPGA events. She has the talent to win on that tour. I doubt she has the talent to win on the PGA.

I DO NOT HATE MISS WIE, I WISH HER ALL THE BEST IN THE FUTURE. BUT PLEASE STICK TO THE LPGA :)

I'd agree with the_har and golfbum.

The problem I have with Wie as well, is that she is not an accomplished golfer and is riding the marketing machine to provide her access to PGA events. Her current skill - while dwarfing many golfers - is not at a level whereby she is able to compete at the PGA level.

I would have no problem what ever with someone like Annika Sorenstam or Karrie Webb or someone of equal statue giving the PGA a turn, they deserve a kick at that cat - they've earned it; Wie has not!

I've another problem as well - and you can call it sexist if you want, but if Women can participate in the PGA, then men should be permitted to play in the LPGA!

Success is often cyclical and the pendulum of public approval appears to be starting it's swing the other way. If MW were my daughter I'd be getting her out of the lime-light as quickly as possible because when the public really does turn on her it won't be pretty. That kind of pressure and negativity can really affect a young mind. It may be true that she doesn't deserve all the attention she get's, but it's also true that she doesn't deserve to be ripped to shreds by the public so her handlers can rake in a few more million.

I've another problem as well - and you can call it sexist if you want, but if Women can participate in the PGA, then men should be permitted to play in the LPGA!True ... but of course, when Wie plays in PGA events it's through sponsor's exemptions, and it's unlikely a male would get a sponsor's exemption into an LPGA event -- there would be an uproar among the players, and possibly a boycott of the event. The John Deere organizers may love the Wie circus, but an LPGA event sponsor wouldn't want the circus that would result from allowing someone to play who might realistically win the event.

Only women are allowed to play in an LPGA event. There is no similar rule for the PGA.

The PGA exists for the best golfers in the world - period. OTOH, the LPGA exists for the best female golfers in the world. Its really that simple.

Hahhahaah... hilarious... it is the "Professional Golf Association" not the "Men's Professional Golf Association". Nobody disputes that the PGA is the world's greatest pro golf tour. Eurpoean Tour, LPGA, CPGA are all admitedly lower in talent than the PGA. I have no problem with women competing "IF" they are properly qualified (which I agree Wie is not). If you are among the BEST golfers in the world (regardless of your demographic) you belong in the PGA.

For that matter, why not have men play in the WNBA? Or Women's Fifa and make a career out of it? Women vs. Men boxing????? (maybe crazy mike tyson had the right idea... hahahaha)....

You really think that there'd be a boycott of the LPGA event and NO FANS would show up if, say, oh, Tiger Woods, newly found maternal instincts and all with the arrival of his daughter, accepts a sponsor's INVITATION to join the field?

He may become the first person to hold 3 U.S.Open titles (Men's, Women's, Amateur) ... though specifically, I think the USGA's U.S.Open is all about earning a spot and not invite-dependent.

sorry to digress.. but I really don't lilke Nintendo Wii.:)

I meant that the players would skip the event, not the fans. I'm not sure what fans would do. I'd find the whole thing rather silly, but some people will go ga-ga for anything Tiger does, so they'd show up.

But the women players would boycott.

but, wouldn't a male golfer be able to go and do the qualifying round on Monday for the tournament instead of soley relying on a sponsor's exemption??

I am not comparing Wie's amateur career to Woods, just pointing something out. Not to agree/disagree with people, just found it interesting that they both met resistence when they first burst out, that however is where the similarities end.

I think Ms. Wie gets such reactions from us as viewers is that we are force fed this girl who is supposed to be a phenom, when she hasn't one anything except for huge corporate sponsorships. It wouldn't be so annoying if she entered and we didn't hear about her unless she was way up on the leaderboard. I guess those Nike and Sony dollars are what get all of the attention. She does have potential, but what about Pressel or Petterson. But thats only my opinion.

1) Agree, you can't hate someone you don't know.

2) She is just a kid who has been thrown into the spotlight. Hate her parents/management for their short-sighted decisions and not thinking long term.

I often wonder, when Wie gets sponsors exemptions for PGA events, do the sponsors also give her appearance fees? If they do, can you really blame her for showing up even though she may be out-classed? If someone offers YOU $100K to play in their tourney, would YOU turn it down?

No appearance fees are allowed to be paid out to anyone on the PGA. If it is being done then it is being done under the table. Trust me, I doubt a sponsor would want that information coming out to the public.

Appearance money is strictly prohibited but Tournament organizers have other ways of rewarding players for showing up. As stated by Geoff Olgivy in last month's Golf Digest, every member of his family and his caddy have Ipods (not to mention other incentives - incl BMW 750 as a courtesy car) from gift baskets provided by tournament organizers.

IMO....the beef with MW and the men is she did not EARN the opportunity, it was handed to her as an exemption. THen she got another one, and another, and so on. To date she has only proved that she cannot compete with men, or lately with women either.

I don't think in this day in age ANYONE would be bitter if a woman competed against men, as long as she earned it.
