View Full Version : Help Me Out Here Guys...

Since LG.com is down, I hoped you guys could help me out. I sent out about 5 clubs in late February/Early April to M_Portiss to be reshafted and others to just get worked on. When I sent them, he told me I would have them back by Early May. Then the sending got delayed because of a trip to Cinncinatti, then it got delayed because apparently the shipping service he used doesn't ship to my area, then it got delayed because he was busy, and now he doesn't respond to my PM's. So it's been atleast 3 months since I sent them, and I've had it with the excuses. I have already had to play in 4 tournaments without these clubs and there is no way I am gonna go all summer without them. So does anyone know him personally and could help me out?
Thanks guys,
Todd

You are at least the third guy I've heard this complaint from.
All I can say for sure is you should have gone elsewhere. Swain and TourIQ have both done good work for me and both turned the gear around a BUTT LOAD faster than that.
3 months is RIDICULOUS !!! Even if it was winter I'd be PISSED!!

On that same note, I asked SDCFAN18 to pick me up 2 Titleist putter grips. He shows up with one and takes the money for 2 saying he'll ship me the other in a few days when he gets it.
That was a year ago. I've asked him twice about it. Still nothing.
Its up to you but these London guys aren't very reputable.

someone in our nation's capital owes me a matching headcover for a hybrid i bought off him. met him in-person here in toronto. said he'd ship it ASAP when he got back to Ott. then things go busy. promise to ship today, then "ooops. things got crazy at work." .... I've been waiting about 4 months and have pretty much written-off any chance of getting the h/c. .. oh and he is not accepting PM's.

Hey man.. Yeah, I gotta man up here.. For the most part what you have said is true... You had owed me money for shipping a putter to GTA, and I was not going to send anything until I got that from you, but you have since sent that money to me.. Just as I had told you last week when I talked to you last, they are here in the basement. All I can say is I have been wicked busy with work.. Heck, I have not even had time to update LondonGolfers in over a MONTH.. I have already had the server hacked once, I will be damned if I let a unsecured version of vB leave me vulnerable.. It is a couple of hour job, but I do not have a couple of hours..
Sorry Man.. I'll send ya a PM...
You are at least the third guy I've heard this complaint from.
Atleast the third guy, huh? Name them. I had an issue with Samick's 3 wood because Golfworks sent me the wrong shim. (Anyone who has reshafted Callaway's fairway woods knows what I mean) That is the only other example of being "late" on a club that I can remember.. Keep in mind.. I have been doing this for almost 10 years now.. Name the other "examples"... Oh wait, you can't.. But, I am sure you can come back with some sort of slanderous witty comment... You have tried to stir the pot to get people going on a regular basis.. You have done it here, and you have done it on LG.com when it started... Seriously man, High School ended like 20 years ago for you... Get over the petty stuff..
Obviously I cannot speak to the other issues in the thread, because none of them involve me..
Look.. Clubbuilding is a Hobby for me. I rely 0% on income from it. It is something I have chosen to do for fun. I will not try to "sell" my services, and I will not invade or shoot down other people's domains to get a chance to work on clubs.. If it falls into my lap, great.. If not, great... I will not undercut anyone's price just to get business, and I will not speak badly about other clubbuilder's work to get business.. You will never once hear me bother someone to send them to me... The industry has changed SO much in the 10 years I have been doing this... It has gotten WAY WAY more expensive than it was when I got into it.. My goal has always been to help out the guy that cannot afford the $1000 driver.. If I can help a guy "update" his clubs rather than sell him new ones, that is always my goal.. I do not (Not have I EVER) wanted to make a career out of this. I just want to help people get the best out of their game, not to mention their current clubs. Switching clubs constantly does not improve one's game.. We all know this by now.
For those of you who base your opinion on the folks on this forum, well, such is life... I cannot fault you for that.. But, please understand that I have served SEVERAL Customers other that what is popularized on the forum(s).

I wasnt going to chirp in, but oh well, my name is already in here.....
I can understand the shim screwing up the time in getting my clubs back a few days, three weeks is a little excessive. Missed the clubs at the members opening tourny, not sure that I would have played any better (swung the clubs I had like a donkey's ***), but none the less they were missed.

Don't pass your negligence off on me, Matt. All I did was help a 16 yr old kid get his clubs back. He's been asking me about what he should do for about 2 weeks.
You've had them for WAY longer than was necessary to complete the work and refused to respond to the kids' PMs.
Consider yourself lucky you didn't have someone else's clubs. Most people aren't nearly as passive about their actions.

There in lies the difference between a professional club builder and a basement guy. The guy working in his basement is doing this as a hobby and a pro is doing it as a business. I have been using a pro who started out in his basement for 3 years. He has a great shop opened now because when he was working in his basement that was his goal. My advice to you Matt is to keep this as a hobby and work only on you and your Buddy's clubs. Most of us know how long it takes to do the work and if your to busy to take the time them tell them to take then somewhere else if time is an issue. Remember you are providing a service and you must do so in a timely fashion.

Although I would hardly consider myself a "Basement Guy" since I managed a VERY busy shop while in the States, I understand exactly where you are coming from. However, most large businesses started in someone's basement at one time or another. The only difference is that I do not plan on making this into any type of career because that takes the hobby aspect out of it.
I appreciate you atleast mentioning that what clubbuilders do is not a cut and glue ordeal. Although I took more than too much time with Todd's clubs, you atleast realize it is a time-eating hobby/profession. Believe me, while Managing the shop, there were times where I just did not have the time to do a "Rush Job" for someone overnight. In that case, I had a few fellow businesses that we would share the wealth. Unfortunately, this was not a case of too much work, not enough time. This was a case of too much going on OUTSIDE of the hobby for me. Too many irons in the fire, if you will.
However, I have tried to "make up for" my errors. In Samick's case, I charged him absolutely nothing for the work I did to his clubs. As a perk of being a Moderator at LG.com, my services were offered for free, GRANTED materials were paid for. Since I took so long to return his 3 wood, and a Cleveland wedge that I striped chrome off of and bent, I did not charge him for any materials. (And you know how much Golfworks GOUGES on small things) In Todd's case, I am sending him cash via Paypal to show my apologies. As I said, I have screwed up, and I try to help out by admitting and owning up to it. This does not excuse the actions, but since we are going on ALL of the facts......
And now to you, Will.. I did not pass ANY negligence off on you, Will. I just asked you to mention the names of the people and the example of the slander that you bestowed on the rest of us. Which, ofcourse.. You could not. Shocked and amazed you would attempt to take the focus off of that issue when I called you on it. I took FULL fault for what I did, and all you did was make a few pot shots that were 100% false. I suggest you read R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER L.12 in regard to your slanderous and libel statements.
Next time, come at me with facts, or leave it alone.

I would not say I ignored anyone's PM's... EVERY PM sent to me via LG.com from Samick was replied to the same day I opened it. I can upload a picture of my PM folder to prove that. (Actually, I WILL attach the pic..) See the arrows on the envelope.. That means the PM's were responded to... EVERY SINGLE ONE, no less! But, Thanks for Coming out.
As far as Todd's PM's go on here, I had no idea that I HAD any PM's. I had all emails from TGN sent to the junk folder because I was tired of getting the damn advertisements. (Mother's Day Specials, Golf Ahoy Cruises, etc..) I also had 2-3 PM's from guys asking about a TM Hybrid I had for sale MONTHS ago... Check the records.. I had not been here for a WHILE.
If an Admin of the site looks at the time I have come to the site, and what directed me here, they will see I had not been to the site in over 3 months! Much less came here directed from an email notifying me of a PM..
Will, you are grasping at irrelevant straws here..

This is starting to sound like a bloody soap-opera!
I'd like to clear up a couple things here.
Matt did do my clubs for me and did the work well, for the exception of the first three wood was off a bit (length wise), but still playable. As a "part-time" moderator (which was more full time) of the site, Matt also did my clubs without charge for the labour, all I had to do was pay for the materials. He did show good faith in not charging me for the Ferule, grip, and chemical for the reshafting of the last three wood, and chrome stripping of the wedge (I supplied the clubs and a shaft for three wood).
I dont recall mentioning the lack of responses to PMs about my clubs, however I do know that Thorness has. Also, after the site has been down, I sent a few MSN messeges to the two administrators asking whats going on and didnt get a response, but it had nothing to do with my clubs. It was more for Thorsness who contacted me asking if I had been talking to Matt and explained the situation.
Now that I have said my piece, I think focus on the important issue at hand of Thorness's clubs needs to be taken. Which I am fairly sure it is. Its just too bad it had to come to a public thread, but whats the guy supposed to do? 3 months is 3 months, I felt crappy enough not having my couple clubs for 3 weeks.
Thats it for me on the topic....I'm outta here. :D Nice attachment though matt.;)

You are clearly insinuating in this post that thorsness is not telling the whole truth and that he is partly to blame for the delay. He paid you in mid-April and apparently you were supposed to ship in early May, so why even raise it?
IMHO it doesn't matter whether you replied to his PM's - its been 3 months and the only acceptable response was to ship the man his stuff. Maybe if you had fessed up back in May that you don't have the time, he could have sent them somewhere else.
It shouldn't be necessary to make this a public affair, but you only have yourself to blame that it has become one. You're not the victim here, and I don't think you're in any position to be tossing out words like libel and slander.

Of course I understand nothing gets shipped before it is paid for, but it was paid for on April 16th, that's like 75 days where you didn't have the time to ship the clubs? All I am asking is that you ship the clubs out Xpresspost on Tuesday and post the tracking number in this thread. Yes, that was the real reason, and it was resolved.. I spoke to Thorsness the night I replied and told him when I was going to ship the clubs. The was no reason for Will to show up and make not 1 false claim, but 2 false claims in ONE THREAD! And when he makes the "ATLEAST 3rd person" remark, your little Meatloaf analogy goes out the window.. LOL And they are not something that he "Just messed up the facts" They are purposefully spiteful and flat out irrefutably wrong. If you say something like that, you need to be sure that it is true. And ofcourse, on both accounts it was not.
Sorry, but this does not sound like someone taking FULL fault to me:............You are clearly insinuating in this post that thorsness is not telling the whole truth and that he is partly to blame for the delay. I have done nothing but take full fault for it. READ THE THREAD. Post #1 I took fault.. I said I messed up a few times. Never once did I even insinuate that what happened was anywhere near acceptable... As far as insinuating Todd was not telling the truth? I just thought that Todd was telling close enough to the whole story that medial little facts would be a non-issue.. That is why I said "Pretty Much" instead of "Yeah man, you said the complete story like you read it from a book!"
It shouldn't be necessary to make this a public affair, but you only have yourself to blame that it has become one. You're not the victim here, and I don't think you're in any position to be tossing out words like libel and slander.
Just as I told Todd, I have no issue with him making this issue public. I understand he had to do that. No issue what-so-ever with that. Hell, if someone did work for my clubs and waited this long, I would not be so pleasant.. The issue I DO have is people stirring the pot with unrelated posts and character assassination attempts that come up false..
You are right, I am not the victim.. Just as Will is not the victim either. I do not think he is (or ever was) in any position to make false accusations that could be considered a the words I called them.. What would you as a Moderator have me post.. "Will is spewing Libel" -or- "Will is being a @&%^( *#@&%@ * who likes to !@$# with dogs" I would have thought the mature way would have been more suiting to people's eyes and intelligence.. Anyone can call names.. Obviously as proved in this thread, not everyone can back up statements made.

From someone who as absolutely no stake in any of this --
Everyone, DO NOT send your clubs for M_Portiss to do unless time is not of the essence.
M_Portiss, three months is waaaaaaay too long. To say you haven't had a spare couple hours is silly. Did you go golfing at all in the last three months? Gone out with friends for a beer?
Also, giving this kid his money back does not make up for the three months those clubs have been out of his bag, especially since it is golf season. A person of means would have probably replaced the club(s) that were sent so they could play a regular round of golf (I know I would in this instance). If that's what the kid did, I'd want replacement value and tell you to keep the clubs that were sent.

Yeah.. the first 2 paragraphs have been covered SEVERAL times in this thread... Once again for the masses.. I messed up.. However, I agree.. Don't send the clubs out to me if you need them rapidly..
However, the last paragraph is just plain outrageous.. Todd is the very definition of a Club Ho.. He has backups for the backups for the backups he bought to backup his backups... lol I understand your concept, but in this instance it is totally incorrect. I never meant for the money sent back to "make up for" anything. It was just a gesture.. Not a offer to shut him up..

That definitely IS funny.. I know as a fact that ontop of the driver he sent me, he also had a SMT 455 and a HiBore. Not to mention a Scotty Cameron JAT and a backup set of Taylor Made wedges. Since we are getting into details.....I had 3 drivers: the Ignite which is with Matt, the HiBore which was just recently repaired because the person I bought it from used terrible epoxy and the head flew off, and the SMT which is 47.5". The SMT was given to my buddy who is 6'7" because he was the only one who could hit it. I played in a few tournaments without a driver while the HiBore was out of commission, luckily most weren't too long. And I am somewhat of a "club ho", I currently have 2 drivers (one is with Matt), 3 fairways (one is with Matt), 1 hybrid (shaftless, as the shaft is with Matt), 1 set of irons, way too many wedges to count, and I have narrowed the putter count down to 5. More of a "wedge/putter ho", I guess.
But anyways, there isn't much point to the thread anymore. Matt said he would ship them out tomorrow and that's all I wanted.

Will, you are grasping at irrelevant straws here..
Hi Matt
I find this 'soap opera' just too bloody entertaining not to read a 2nd time. Man you outclassed yourself real good on this one. Just remember I was the one you thought was a little 'too dramatic and controversial' for your little startup golf forum over in London. Well you just became the 'KING of Drama and Controversary', or shall we say 'the KING of Forum Soap'. What a way to dig yourself into a real 'hornet's nest'.
Quoting "R.S.O. 1990, CHAPTER L.12 in regard to your slanderous and libel statements" to WILL on a public opinion forum does little to gain any cooperation or respect from its members. WILL is a standup guy and very honest. He would not alter the word of what others told him. If you deal with the issues at hand you wouldn’t have any negative press now would you Matt?
Your Post #18 has an 'Attached Thumbnail' which clearly shows the URL of LondonGolfers.com, so I am wondering if you are now a sponsor at TGN's? If not, then I suspect this could be in violation of a TGN rule? Just a heads up mate, as you don't have extra time to keep dealing with all the cr*p being thrown your way when you have clubs to deliver.
When any of your LG.com moderators had a sliver of contraversary [negative public opinion] you called them out publicly [members email], and dealt with it swiftly [which normally meant resignation from LG.com mod duties]. Are you going to hold yourself to this same level of professional scrutiny as you expect of others who represent your interests?
Regarding not responding to forum PM's on a site you rarely visit, I too hate forum PM's. I would rather communicate via email, and then nothing is missed. This thead does exhibits a high level of entertainment value.

Do I detect sour grapes because your "I'm the greatest" attitude didn't fly too well over there? Hey, just asking.

Yup, I'd agree. Not slanderous. And hey maybe he's even an honest standup guy like you say. Definitely a good golfer which gives him credibility here. From my little personal experience with him, I have much less respect for him and beleive he was just here to stir the pot. (Well I had to word that rather nicely so I could avoid calling him an idiot)

Why don't you just quit whining and pony up the cash to become a sponsor? Then you'd have a right to cry everytime it looked like someone was trying to advertise their services for free.
The only thing I see wrong here on Matts part is that he was very neglectful on the time it took for him to return these clubs. Whether it be from "too busy" or laziness that was his only crime. I can see where Thorsness was getting a little worried that he might never see his clubs because of lack of communication again due to either laziness or he was too busy. But then for what ever reason ( I know why) somebody comes on here and tries to paint a little scenario like Matts a thief or something. Maybe didn't call him that but the suttle comparisons were there. I think that the OPs intent was to bring attention to this so that Matt would get a message that he was tired of waiting. This mission could have been accomplished without dragging it out like this.

Hi guitarman
I posted very little over at LG.com and I do not miss it for a minute. Except for a few die-hards, it has seen very little traffic or knowledge posting.
Terry, since you normally deal with 1/2 the facts let me set the record straight. I inquired to pay TGN’s Sponsor Fees on 2 separate occasions. The 1st time I received a confirmation email from torontogolfnuts.com, dated July 02, 2006, and a year later I am still waiting for them to get back to me [as promised] with instructions for payment. The 2nd time was more recent. Is it my fault I expressed an interest to join as a Sponsor and then TGN’s don’t get back to me with payment details [which I specifically requested info. on]? So no I’m not whining, and no it’s not sour grapes.
Matt runs a real tight ship over at LG.com, and he wouldn’t put up with foolishness from ANY poster, so I find it hard to believe WILL was there “to stir the pot” as you suggested, since WILL was one of the top posters over at Matt’s golf forum. If WILL was “stirring the pot” as you suggested, then Matt would have yanked his account a long time ago. GRT sure did a lot of regular posting for a guy who you now label as “stirring the pot”. The other implied ‘name calling’ to WILL is just plain rude / disrespectful on your part.
I guess LG.com most frequent posters of, Thorsness, GrassRootsTour, Samick, etc., won’t have much of a ‘Welcome Mat’ rolled out when they post again at LG.com. Maybe you as guitarman might be in a similar boat, as you just implied Matt was “either lazy or he was too busy” to meet the needs of a paying customer.
No Terry, I do not have a right to cry, but I do have a right to voice my opinion. There is a subtle difference, especially since I have in the past asked to join as a Sponsor. Furthermore, this is a public golf forum, which is a vehicle to express fact and opinions [positive, negative, and neutral].
Maybe we can self-nominate this thread for a DayTime Soap Opera Award. I then nominate guitarman and M_Portiss to fly to the awards ceremony and deliver our acceptance speech on behalf of TGN’s. I am going to go out on a limb and predict we pick up at least one award.

Yup your right. I lowered myself to his childish level. I'll keep my words and feelings about him to myself from now on.

I would hope Matt wouldn't do that to anyone. Especially if their record is clean over there at LGF. As for me if I'm not welcome for what I said then so be it. My statements were not accusation but speculation to explain the possible break down that occurred. I will however highlight the fact that if you go to someone that is not practicing a commercial business for livelihood but does it as a sideline hobby you run a high risk of long wait times as obviously the sidline hobby will NOT take precedence over other things in life. You save some money and take that risk. You are far better off to take your business to sponsors of this forum or other commercial businesses. Yet Matt is being tried to the level of a commercial business. You get what you pay for. And as I understand it from this thread, Thorseness is paying for nothing.

Maybe you'd be a sponsor if you didn't tout your self as the second coming of Christ to club fitters. The fact that you think only you have the answers might put off the other sponsors of this forum. Hey thats just my hunch.
