OMG.... What an experience we had Thursday night at Cardinal. Normally I can book a 4:30 for twilight and get finished by 8:30. I don't think I ever booked a Thursday night before though and we got a 4:48 tee off as it was ladies league night. First hole seemed pretty slow and then I watched as the 4 ladies basically crawled off the green so that we could shoot. I saw them standing at the 2nd tee box for a bit to long and wondered why they had not shot yet. Excited :D I thought they were waiting for us to play through. When we reached the elevated green (East course) I saw why they were waiting. There was a 3 some of guys (not very good golfers BTW) who were just finishing teeing off. I took a few deep breaths at the possibility of not finishing the 18 and we waited well over 15 minutes before we could tee off on the 2nd hole. I watched how this 4some in front of us played and I think I can understand why we never saw a marshall, it was hopeless. I have to think that almost all the groups ahead were in this womens league and basically were playing the same slow golf. I watched as they all huddled around each others shots and waited until the ball was hit and then they would casually walk back to their bags and walk ever so slow to the next ball. Again I took some deep breaths figuring I was going to implode  at any moment. By the time we reached 8th hole it was wll past 2.5 hours and still no marshall to be found nor a beer cart (this womens league must be bad tippers  lol) We did finally see a marshall and asked how they could allow golf to be played this way and he said be thankful that they only play 9 holes. Ok I was a bit relieved and figured we just might finish. We caught up to a group sitting at the tee box on 11 and again I could see a 3 some of women coming back with 2 holes open in front of them and 2 groups plus us waiting behind them. Well we did finish 18 , how I do not know although it was 9:15 and getting dark fast. On top of that when we reached the 18th tee box the courses watering system started up and we basically got a little wet at the tee box and again on the green rushing to finish.
Just a warning to those out there. DO NOT BOOK TWILIGHT ON THURSDAYS AT CARDINAL UNLESS YOU ARE VERY PATIENT.:hush:
Today I hit Silver Lakes for a 2:30 tee off. Maybe I get home by 7:30?:help:

I hate generalizations, but unfortunately this is right there with the four guys showing up with beer bellys and lighting up the cigar and cracking open the beers playingfrom the wrong set of tees and apologizing that they are having an off day....
I've seen both extremes with women, but will say that many do play the game and approach it as more a social outing then men and will congregate together and walk to each others shots.
Unfortunately when you say the word league, there is both the social and competitive aspects and it will translate to a slower round.
Personally I am of the opinion that if the course should be played in 4.5 hours, tell them 4 hours and stick to it.....

No etiquette, and ABSOLUTELY NO GAME. Women's leagues may not be the fastest in the world but I have seen some groups of men with no etiquette and absolutely no game AND trying to play from the Blue's tees or further.

Hopefully this doesn't turn in to a women vs men thing. I've only been golfing 2 seasons now but have to say that you obviously run in to more men withough courtesy then women because there are more men on the courses. That being said I think that if there were as many women as men on the course that no one gender would outclass the other. Infact I tend to think that women migth edge men in the courtesy department.
I think that when it comes to leagues the people in them, both men and women, think they have priorety on the course. Last year I was following the last group in a mens league that were playing painfully slow. I wasnt' complaining or anything. I came up them on one tee and one in the group arrogantly says "We're in the mens league" as if to say "we have a right to take as long as we want". I just said, "Glad you clarified that. I thought you were beginners".
I played a course a few weeks ago behind a ladies group and they let my group through and were very nice.
On Saturday I played with a couple of freinds one who works as a starter on this particular course. We got behind a group of four ladies. they were lightening fast down the fairway but seemed to take a little more time on the greens. It seemed like we were waiting alot but I don't think it was that bad. My starter friend in the group of course had the marshall watching these ladies like hawks. After the first nine the marshall bumped us in front of the ladies while they were in taking washroom breaks. I could hear one of the ladies while I was teeing off saying "I didn't think we were slow". I thought she was right. My starter friend timed them and it really was only 2 hours. Up the fairway my friend spouted off about how the ladie was miserable. I don't know I think I would have been a little miffed myself if I was complained about after only taking 2 hours in a foursome for nine holes. Of course when we got infront of the ladies we were able to finish the back nine in just over 90 minutes. But there was only 3 of us.

I didn't mean it to sound like a "women vs men" thing. I'm a very fast player (which I'm sure members here can attest too! :) ). I bet if there were as many women on the course as men, we would be talking about poor course etiquette in general and not the comments made above.
The one thing I have found with women is that if they know they are taking a long time, they will pick up there ball. I have yet to play with a guy who did that. Now of course, I've also played with women who have taken way too many shots to get to the green.

I was addressing a pattern that seemed to be developing "Men vs Women". but I really shouldn't have quoted your post to address that. I should have quoted Dittys as his post seemed to bash womens leagues in general. Sorry about that.

Just remember our mothers are all women. Being deliberative is part of their genetic makeup. Without them having the deliberate nature and patient, we would have been given up for adoptions when we were toddlers. It is not like women are marching down main street demanding that their ladies league events be played weekend mornings. Give them some room and we can will be better for it.

I was once paired up with a couple of women, and I have to say they were fantastic. They didnt drive the ball a mile, but they kept a good pace and understood the etiquette of golf but also ready golf when we got a little behind. I have also had the opposite happen, but you take it in stride and try to enjoy the day on the course. The same is true of men i have been paired up with.

You are a better man then me . I want to play at my pace and that means a 3.5 hour round.... If longer and the course is open, you better let me through..... I just don't have that patience with men, women, seniors or children.....

MY thread was not to put down women at all. I was just reflecting what had happened that day and the lack of any marshalling that was done to aleviate the problem. My beef was with the course more so, but I guess I can realize that there is not much 1 can do when it is habitual by many of the groups to take their time knowing they will finish 9 holes in plenty of time. Maybe the course should have started us on the 10th hole as I am sure at 5;00 pm on a weekday it may be pretty empty and then let us do the front 9 afterwards after the league has cleared out.

You should grab the mike from the PA announcer and scream 'free chocolate ice cream in the club house in the next 5 minutes'...:D

I'll have to admit that improving lies and kicking balls back in to the fairway from the rough make for quick rounds. The rest of us want to play golf.:D

3.5 hr round as a single should be doable especially if you get out early enough where you dont have anyone infront of you.

I don't appreciate the personal attack:mad:.... I joked about how I play golf and what I thought were silly rules and did not assist improving beginner/intermediates golf game. Kicking balls out of the rough trust me does not speed up play..... We know where you stand on the rules and we agree to disagree.
Of course if I hit the ball 330 like many on this site, chip in from off the green or at least be inside the leather, I'd be done in 2.5 hours.....
I was just as quick when I shot 120....

Oh and this shot from another thread was ok?
Of course I'll be happy to golf with 3 women.....;)
As told by the grinning icon following my statement it was just a bit of ribbing. I see why you golf alone.

Suck it up you big baby. As told by the grinning icon following my statement it was just a bit of ribbing. I see why you golf alone.
Why don't you read the OP..... I mentioned both extremes with women and the same issues with men. Also stated that it may have had something to do with it being a league.
I asked to play with another couple or two women if I had to be paired up on the weekend as I was playing with my spuse and her comfort level.
As for your jibes they are old and tired...... My view is that you'd probably play too slow for me truth be told.....

I think that the fact that you titled your thread followed the Ladies league then went into that it took too long whether consciously or not was an attack.
if not just titlke it Real slow round at Cardinal
or Poor Marshalling at Cardinal.
IMO whenever you play twilite you have to expect slow rounds as this is typically the times when clubs have their leagues and whether men or women, when there is any sort of competition things tend to be slower,, everything is putted out etc.
The good news is that often it is just 9 holes...but not always
Twilite is also a time when many beginners/novices and or parents with kids or wives ( or Husbands) that are learning the game tend to go out so as not to slow up play during peak times.
I also think that an open and lower green fee course like Cardinal and Bloomington Downs tends to attract less skilled golfers in general, and while that may not in itself contribute to slow play, there is a greater chance of finding a 4 some of jean wearing , beer drinking , wild swinging once a year golfers day out to get drunk and drive the cart round , often without care or understanding of the rukes of the game ....getting behind a group of these like the Landscaping crew I got behind at Bloomington last summer can be a painful day.
I play regularly with a number of women , including my wife and while they may shoot btn 90 -100 but they play as fast as anyone else and always keep up the play
too bad that your round was ruined
