In baseball, there are 1st and 3rd base coaches. Their jobs are to assist the runner (s) on base on whether to keep on running or to stop and to tell if there's a pick off attempt. Yesterday during the Cardinals vs Astro's game Albert Pujols of the Cardinals ran through his 3rd base coaches STOP sign and was thrown out at home plate. My question is: Should baseball change the rules and take away the base coaches to make these types of plays more exciting for the game? A player should be aware of the play and know who's where and doing what at all times. Let the player make the call as to keep on running or to hold up. I think this will make baseball a little more exciting. What do you think?

damon got thrown out yesterday at home plate also...
i think basecoaches there are ok, they do many other things besides run and stop signal, they signal to the batter and runner for hit and run plays, sac bunts, take a pitch, etc etc...

Right, so base coaches can give the right or wrong signals to score or not. So why have them? Let the player make his own decision. Would make the scoring plays more exciting.
As for giving signals to the batter, thats useless too. The coaches can give signals from the dugout too.

as if baseball wasn't long enough, if there were no base coaches, the batters after getting to first base sometimes takes off ankle/elbow braces, batting gloves and give it to the base coaches to hold...if they had to wait for a bat boy to run out or something man, baseball games would last an extra hour...
signals not only to batter, but to runners also. for eg, a runner on first and batter may not be able to see the manager in the dugout depending on where the manager is sitting...but both the runner and hitter are able to see the 3rd base coach...
i think another reason for the base coach would be to even out the 3rd base dug out advantage...the runner running towards 3rd can see the 3rd base line dugout clearly and if his team happened to be in that dugout that game, he can look to them for advice (same role as base coach)...

I think you're missing the point of my thread...I know the coaches are useful, or why else would they be there for so many years of this game...I'm saying, wouldn't it be more exciting if they were no base coaches so that the players have to rely on themselves and be more aware of the play. Jee mo?

It probably would be more exciting.....but I also think scoring a lot of runs is also exciting....which is probably the reason the base coaches were there in the first place....
