Haven't seen much said about this girl in this forum yet, but she is probably the biggest up and comer to the game of golf since probably Tiger Woods! Do any of you guys thing she is the real deal or is it just much too hyped up?

She has quite a few things going for her:

-her 300-yard booming drives, already further than some PGA pros!
-she's only 15!
-claims from legends and pros like Nicklaus, Palmer and Els that she is the real deal!
-the youngest player to win a USGA event (Women's Amateur Public Links) at the tender age of 13!
-she missed the cut at the Sony Open, a PGA event, by only 1 stroke!
-she played in only seven LPGA Tour events and finished in the top 20 in six of them, including fourth place at the Kraft Nabisco Championship (LPGA major)
-her earnings in her LPGA appearances would have been about $257,931, enough to finish 43rd on the money list, already better than Besiegel!

Good thread Ego Woods...Michelle is definately the REAL DEAL!! She's got it all...including GAME!! hehehe...I know I know, she's only 15...hands off....for now...(is this post going to be removed now? hehe)...I hope she makes it to the PGA someday cause I want to see the reaction on Tiger's face when he gets his butt whooped on a Sunday at the Masters or something...I'm talking about 10 years from now or something...can't wait.

Yeah, finally some stats on Michelle Wie! She sounds awesome, I heard about her 300 yard drives before and thought maybe that's all she had going for her since I never hear anything else... (I'm a passive Golf Nut, absorb info but rarely seek it)

I didn't know about the other stats and they definitely make me more intrigued with this girl and hope she makes her mark like Tiger did.

There are a few that believe the hype about this girl shouldn't be there, since she was unable to defend her US Women's Amateur title and lost in the first round in another amateur event this year, but we all seem to forget that she was only 14 at that time....if she can learn to develop all other aspects of her game, she will do very well.....I think she needs to hire Butch Harmon and Dave Pelz or some high profile swing coach to atleast get her learning the correct approach.

:omg:

I think all young pre-teen girls should watch out for Focker Singh :nono:

It's amazing how she's able to turn down all that money to keep her amateur status....I know she probably thinks that she'll be making a large amount of $$ anyways, but trust me, it's still hard!........she's really showing some a lot of maturity by focusing on her school and other things despite all the hype and media attention that she's had to go through.....

i don't know, I know my parents would make me take the money! j/k

That is pretty admirable, I think more with her parents.

I think its just good parenting. They know she's going to make millions once she turns pro and the sponsors are lining up already for her name. Keep her sane and from her head from blowing up with all that money. Besides, her parents are well off to begin with.

Yeah, that helps, they can afford to be admirable. I wouldn't say parents who choose to take the money are bad parents either... as long as they keep their children grounded and appreciative

You can tell that Michelle is driven to be the best, in the same way you saw that in Tiger when he was just coming up in his teenage years. I think unusually talented people that go on to really excel have that, and I believe money is secondary because she knows that million dollar paychecks are a given.

There must be many others that may be equally talented that have squandered it because their focus, while not necessarily just on money, but wasn't on the bigger picture. You see this in all sports, and in the entertainment fields. Not a judgement of those people in any way, but a testament to people like Michelle Wie and Tiger.

One thing I know for sure, pressure will be taken off my retirement planning if my 2 and 4 year old daughters turn out to be like Michelle!

Hopefully Michelle does not lose her touch like Tiger (sort of) has. She seems to have a great love for the game, and not just for the money.

Tiger hasn't lost his "touch". It's just redirected elsewhere for the time-being. ;)
