Personally I think there are a lot of big names, although the top 10 in the world are not well represented. However, there are some impressive names IMO. Camillo, Sean O'Hair, Daly, Corey Pavin, Bob Tway, Larry Mize. Have a look, I was actually surprised to see how good the field is.
BTW....anyone know why Jon Mills is not playing and did not try to qualify Monday at Royal Ashburn. You would think a local guy of his talent would think his chances are pretty good playing in his own backyard.
I also was pretty hard on the RCGA for chosing Angus again, but after seeing the course today on GC it actually is pretty impressive and the players seemed pleased with the changes as well. Maybe Davis thinks he made it to hard for himself and doesn't want to emberass himself by missing the cut at his own course!

i don't know about how hard it is. Dimarco was on the Team 1200 talking about how hard it is to MISS fairways out there, and that the greens are so soft its like target practice. Unless they have severe pin locations, sounds like its gonna be some low scoring.

Anyone know what the fees are for Sunday's round. They've pulled them off the website.

Jon Mills was offered a spot in the open but has choosen to play in the Nationwide event this week. He is just outside the top 25 on the nationwide money list and wants to improve his position so he can get one of the coveted top 25 positions

??????? Don't get this choice. There are still enough events on the Nationwide for him to compete in. I would think this local guy would get a ton of gallery support. I know he has to worry about his status and it is undertstandable he wants to focus on doing well so he can get a PGA card and avoid Q school, but IMO...he may have an advantage playing close to him on terrain he is familiar with. However, this theory can also back fire on you as well, so who am I to question his choice.
I do know one thing if Jon Mills was bigger name, his choice not to play would be all over the TV and papers. Here's hoping Jon does make it so next year when he's on the PGA he'll be able to play.

I'm sure it was a tough decision, but i think its a good one. I'm sure he likes his chances better on the MW tour than against the big boys at Angus. Perhaps he has never really liked Angus, or never played that good there either. I know it would be tough to pass on your Nation's Open, but this tells me that he is confident that if he solely focuses on the NW tour, he will be in the field next year as a PGA Tour member, not sponsor's exemption.

I have to respectfully disagree...I think the field this year is the weakest in years.
2003 in Hamilton, I remember seeing Adam Scott, KJ Choi...last year, I saw Sabatini, Immelman, Baddeley, Justin Rose, Stewart Cink, Charles Howell III, and Funk, just to name a few...I think all of them moved up in World golf ranking this year and subsequently missing at this year's Open.

I've been volunteering my time this week with player transportation and have personally picked up and driven many of these guys around before they get there BMW for the week... All are top notch nice guys! When i asked them about the course, they all told me the same thing.. EASY... Low scores coming up. I was watching the practice rounds yesterday and these guys are disgustingly good... every shot was sticking to the greens, every word i heard from the players on the course was "this is gonna be a shootout"...

If the course was set up to be a true test of golf the field would be better, particularily 3 weeks before a major. If the RCGA does not make our open a true open in terms of the golf course set up, I think we will be dealing with fields that do not have many of the top 10 players in the future.

as much as i want to be hopeful and optimistic, its not the golf course. You have a schedule that has:
British Open
Canadian Open
WGC- Bridgestone Invitational
PGA Championship
yes i think a better course would help, but you can't tell me guys like Tiger, Phil, Ernie, Adam Scott, Ogilvy etc. will play 4 weeks in a row, especially coming from The Open to Canada. I honestly don't think Furyk would be back if he didn't win last year. He actually said "Of course i am gonna come back to defend" in his post-win press conference, before he actually knew the new schedule. They showed a clip of it, and after somebody told him when the event was on the schedule, he had a sheepish laugh and a roll of the eyes, almost like i wish i didn't say what i just said.

The RCGA is in a tuff spot due to the slot in the calendar. They absoloutely must find better courses with tougher set ups and more importantly they will need to find a sponsor or group of sponsors willing to pony up the large $$$ to increase the purse.
The RCGA was lucky with the Canadian Womens Open and getting CN on board. CN has really thrown their support behind the event and it appears they (CN) are trying to have the event return to MAJOR status.
What the RCGA can do is change the qualify procedures and do the same as the USGA and run qualifiers across the country open to anyone with a handicap of 1 or less. Charge the players a few hundred bucks and you'll have lots of people (canadians and americans) drop some money down just to say they tried to qualify.
They could raise $$$ by charging all RCGA members $5 or $10 bucks and then draw 50 - 100 names to play in a Pro Am.

hmm...probably the latter, considering the way you're leaning towards the target on setup.

There are only 5 in the top 50. Forget about the top ten. Course isn't the reason really at all.

I checked out the practice round with tehFlakes yesterday. It was literally like target practice out there. We watched Justin Leonard hit to within 2' of the hole only to spin it back 7'. I think the only changes they made, since the last time I played there (last season) was that the fescue was grown out and a few more newer tee boxes, which IMO didnt' seem that far. Seemed like the amatuers played from the lady's tee boxes.

It looks like he holed out from the fairway for an eagle to finish the round, if the play-by-play on pgatour.com is correct. A nice showing from Hunter today.
Weir was up an down ... he finished at even par after a couple of bogies late in the round.

3 eagles for Hunter in the round, including holing out on 18 (his first 9). 18 on the South Course is a good finishing hole and I doubt there has been an eagle there in any of the previous tour events (LPGA or PGA). He is one of the hottest golfers right now and good for him.
Also, in looking on pgatour.com, I just now noticed that they call the event, "Canadian Open presented by Franklin Templeton Investments" - was anyone else aware of them as a 'title' sponsor?

It's strange, because this is the only place this appears to be mentioned. The Canadian Open's website says nothing about it.

If the course was set up for a major you would get a better field, if for no other reason for practice. But when it is the week after a previous major and the course is "easy" you are right it doesn't attract the top players. I didn't realize how low down the players were in world rankings. I just went on names that were familiar to me.

I was marshalling today and several holes had "Franklin Templeton Investments" signs on them... But the tee blocks still had the "Bell" logo on them
