Just went to my first ever pga event, and i was very impressed.

followed the Weir, Singh, Pernice Jr. threesome

and then followed the Dimarco, Browne, Calc threesome

I have to say, the latter group really got a long and was consistently chatting it up and joking around...is that pretty normal at an event? on tv, they never really show the interaction between the players...

got a few autographs too (singh, pernice jr.)..but for some reason, mike weir didn't sign any today, pretty disappointed...he did a few interviews, and then rode off in his minivan...probably wasn't to happy with his round of even par:rofl:

What's with the Calc's gut? Holy cow, he looks like Tony Soprano.

I marshalled at two Canadian Opens and from what I remember there is no 'normal' way to behave. It depends on the personalities of the people involved and whether or not they know each other very well. They are far more relaxed in the practice rounds and during the Pro-Ams. Come game day they get more serious, even more so on Sunday. Some guys get rid of the tension by talking and others just want to concentrate on their own plan.

I think the last time Mike got too close to the Canadian Open crowds, somebody slapped his back and said "way to go, Mikey", or words to that effect. Put Mike's neck and shoulder out for months. Can't condemn him for keeping a distance. I believe it was the same year he lost to Vijay in the play-off.
I see JD has withdrawn; another tourney, another WD. Got to wonder what's up with this guy...
Keep us posted with more reports.
cheers

So it was a fan that caused the injury?

I like that story. Wish I were there to hear that argument though, that's somehting you don't see everyday. Are pro bags really 100lbs? That's damn heavy.

My experience w/ a CanOpen was Tiger's last appearance at the open @ Glen Abbey. I was sitting on the hill at the 18th, Nathan Green hits a great 2nd shot at the green. Tiger does one better and hits it from the fairway bunker. Everybody loses it in the clouds, next thing you hear was the ball hit the green and bounce off, HUGE ROAR. Chips and putts, wins the tourney. After the trophy ceremony, my dad and I walked to the bunker where he hit from, the pin was tucked in the back, the sprinkler head said it was 205. I get home and the news said Tiger hit a 6I - from the sand, carry the water and miss the pin, that was impressive

Yeah, I don't have the reference, but read about it via Lorne Rubenstein's column at some point. The suggestion was that Mike didn't want to blame his play on that particular situation...
always a "rumour" though until the player talks about it...

I was there when that guy gooned wiersy walking between the 10th green and 11th tee. The guy had a leafs Jersey on.

It was weird how there was no crowd control on that area of the course.

On a different note, I went to see the Tues practice round. As soon as I walked in, it was the 17 tee. I caught Mike Weir playing that hole with the other young Canadian guns. He seemed very nice as he was talking to people and signing autographs. Followed him all the way till he finished 18th and he stopped at the stairs to sign autographs for everyone. I got my MW autograph on my baseball cap. I thanked him and congratulated him on his good play at the British He looked up at me and thanked me. I am rooting for him from now on.
