Just got them 2 days ago thru an ebay sale - $150 plus the usual shipping and Canadian bull**** charges.
The clubs are in great shape with Rifle Flighted shafts and new Tour velvet grips. They have a slightly thicker topline than what I'm used to (Mizuno TP9's) but, man, these things are pure butter! More buttery than the TP9's which I didn't think possible. It seems I've gained about a 1/2 to 1 club in length - not sure if it's the shafts or that the Hogans are stronger loft, but I'm not complaining about it!
Just need some new wedges!

Hogan must have agreed with the thick top line as the FTX's are essentially the Apex Plus with thinner top lines. I have had mine since 2001 and still enjoy playing them. I cannot comment compared to other brands because I have only ever played Hogan equipment, so not much change in feel between my Plus' and my old blades.
One thing with these heads is they do get banged up when carrying. I have a couple of big dings in mine. It is almost time to change my irons as I now have a fair bit of face wear. A drawback to the softer forgings.
I have the heads for my new clubs, Snake Eyes custom forged C grinds. I did a lot of research on these heads and to quite honest I liked them better than the latest offering from Hogan. I do not play enough anymore to hit a blade and the FTX's don't do much for me.
The Apex plus was designed by a Ft Worth Hogan designer, although the heads were forged in China. There has not really been much in terms of "new" design from Hogan in the last 5 years. They essentially tweeked the Apex Plus, first as the Edge Pro, and now the FTX.
After 30 years of playing Hogan equipment it was a tough decision to go with another brand, but times do change and you go with what you think will work for you. I am hoping I made the right choice with my next set of heads, as I am currently deciding on what shaft is best.

The Hogan FTX is IMO one of the best and most affordable irons out there.
They are a beautiful, clean, uncluttered design.I thought they were one of the best feeling heads I've hit.

They are nice head, I'm not saying they are not. All I'm saying is they are essentially tweeked Apex Plus'. For me, I like to have a consistent look throughout my irons, excluding wedges of course, so that is why the FTX didn't catch my eye. They are nice to look at it, for sure, and seemingly are nice feeling clubs to hit too.

Have the same set, but got mine new in 2001 and paid a bit more than $150. Keep an eye on eBay and you may be able to find some wedges from that set or the Apex Edge which look identical. I scooped up an L wedge and love it.
You will enjoy those clubs forever.

Apex Plus are some of the nicest forged cavity back irons ever. Soft, nice feel......the ftxs are nice too...

They were the first set of irons I purchased from Golftown. They are very soft forgings and were very well received when they first came out. Same forgiveness as a muscleback I would say.
Then I jumped on the ho train!
