I have recently bought new irons, and was custom fitted etc...I'm having the hardest time getting used to them, and am curious if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them. Now these irons, are very different from the last set I had...they are set up 3 degrees more upright, and the shafts are a 1/4 inch shorter. Not to mention they feel heavier, look completely different etc...I would have assumed that performance would have improved dramatically almost instantly, but I'm having a difficult time adjusting to these new clubs. I used to hit a draw, or even a hook with nearly every club in my bag, now I feel like im blocking myself, and everything off my irons wants to start right, and stay right. Just wondering if any other players have shared this experience...I wish I could go to my old clubs, but unfortunately I brought them to my parents house for my brother to give to his brother-in-law, and my dad threw them away. Dang.

When I got my new irons last spring I started off hitting the ball ok but not fully confidant in each swing. For me, it took about 4 months to get to the point where I knew what yardage I was getting off each club and feeling comfortable playing the shot needed. I would say just put in the range time and see what you can do with the new clubs. As for going from hard draw to hook, to now fade/slice, I don't know. Try not giving up on the shot and think about how you would have hit it with your old clubs. Might work.

It always takes some time to get used to a new set of irons. Given they are different than your previous set...weight, balance, shaft...you may be swinging differently. You may also have to adjust the ball position from where you may have had it with your old set.
Go to the range and work it out and then let us know how it goes.

there most certainly can be an adjustment period to new clubs....it can take a few weeks or as Setter02 days...longer.
if you have been playing std clubs all your life you will need time to sdjust.
visual appearance is also something that can take a bit...I went from blades last year to Wisshon 560 mc this year...the Wishons are more game improvement size and it took me about 6 -7 outings to get comfy with the look.
your coment on weight is the only concerning aspect of your post...clubs that feel too heavy ....is something that will not change...but give them some time and in the end if you are not happy take em back for an adjustment.

Particularly because you were fitted, you would think they would work for you. It seem like irons, more so than drivers take some time to get the hang off. Go to the range and work through as many buckets as you can handle to get your distances and alignment down.

After having gone through a few buckets this past weekend, and forgoing a game of golf, I have noticed a slight improvement already. I've had to adjust my ball position forward slightly, and flatten my swing a little. Its still not as consistant as I would like, but neither were my other clubs ;) . I guess I'll keep up the practice for a bit longer and hopefully take a decent swing to the course with me....I was really getting frustrated so, thanks for the encouragment...

I don't get it...
When you buy a customized set, don't the club builder let you swing different golf clubs (built to different specifications) to find the optimal combo (shaft, flex, grip, head) that you can hit consistently well before you settle on them?

I think I would be taking them back to the shop that fit/adjusted the clubs. Are they the King Cobras in your Sig? Who did the fitting?

Correct me if I'm wrong.. shouldn't a custom club fitting result in clubs that you shouldn't have to mess around with your swing to be able to hit them?

I would have thought the same thing, however, I used to have the clubface fairly open before with my old clubs, and have to get used to a more square face at address, and impact. If I was a little steep with my old Tommy Armours, I would catch the heel and hook the ball, with my new ones if I'm a little too steep I push it to the right. It takes some getting used to, having said that, I played today and started to fall in love with my new irons...A big distance gain of a club +, I was in the rough at the back of greens on the front 9 with my old yardages. After some adjustments I was fine on the back 9...shots were going str8, and was even shaping some shots...Again with my older clubs, I felt I could do just about anything with them, play them back in my stance, forward, punch them, shape them etc...I think it will take time to feel comfortable, and confident with my new sticks...Jeff Swain, of SWANK Golf fit me, and I have to say he did a great job...but these sticks "feel" different, and I'm a feel player so...old swing, new swing, whatever, if I keep hitting shots like I did on the inward 9 It may take longer to wipe the smile off my face, than it will to get used to these puppys.:)

Not necessarily. Sometimes when you play with ill-fitted clubs for so long, you tend to compensate for a lot of things. Think of driving a car with whacked alignment and mirrors that you have to stretch your neck to see for months. Then get into a car with good alignment and mirrors that are fitted to you. Things could feel wierd for a while... but once you get settled, I'm sure you'll be driving better.

Ok, i understand that at address the clubface angle and alignment may be different than what you're used to due to appearance, and things like that. But he was also talking about taking a flatter swing, etc...

Just as a matter of interest, are these Natural Golf Clubs? I didn't check your signature but I just got this feeling from your description.
Who,how, where, was the fitting made? I mean you are now 3* upright and still hanging it right?

All I know is that all the input I'm getting from fellow TGN'rs, has been extremely helpfull...so thanks guys, much appreciated. I have full confidence In Jeff Swain's ability, and feel that his fitting of me was, not only thorough, and professional, but correct.
I think, I expected to take the clubs straight out of the box and perform miracles...Instead, I've had to practice, like everyone else. Like I said I was very encouraged this afternoon, when I started to see glimpses of what these clubs can do for my game. With more, and continued practice, I'm positive now that I'll reap the benefits... I wasn't so sure last week. But since then I've had a bit of a breakthrough....
Anyway, thanks for the interest, and especially for the encouragement...
