Especially with your driver, are you cognizant of the condition of the range ball you're hitting? In the lot of balls there's probably one in bad shape that could make some wonderous stratch marks in the face of your club.
I never was until i picked up a 'new' ('new', but an 'old' model 454 big bertha) and noticed a range ball stratched up a perfect face.

(Lets just skip the 'Doesn't apply to me cause I go to good ranges with good balls cause i'm a baller' comments)...

sandy range balls are the biggest culprit and will leave marks on your equipment.
This is more an issue with forged irons as it can if the scratches go deep enough cause rusting

In tha case of drivers, it does nothing to the performance and the face of a driver does not need grooves like an iron....look at the SMT heads as an example.

you can easily takes some wet dry sandpaper or a scotch brite wheel and buff those little scratches out on the driver ...they are purely cosmetic

range balls with cuts and tears will do nothing to the driver....I know range balls are hard but surylin is not as hard as titanium:rofl:

...that's a baller!

Yeah, the thought has crossed my mind, especially since I frequent the Docks usually for my range practice (close to my condo). They balls are shite, and you hit on gravel. Yes, I have had the crappy balls screw up my faces....

i pick out any new range balls to hit with my driver...........if there arent any then i dont hit my driver at all.
if the balls are acceptable but not good enough for my driver then i hit them with my irons-so far i havent had any problems.
if the balls were poor then i would ask for my money back and not hit them at all and go to another range.
fortunately there are 5 ranges all quite close to me so i am spoilt for choice!
