I'm currently using a Yes! Tracy II putter, and like the roll it puts on the ball, but am looking for something with a little more feel, aka a Scotty Cameron. Not that I hate my Yes putter or anything, just want to change it up and try a different feel, and different style. I want to go for a Circa #3 in charcoal mist with the full shaft offset plumbing neck and cavity. For those that've tried both, is there a significant difference in the roll of the ball of a Yes vs. a Scotty Cameron? Although Yes putters have the grooves, and I've seen first hand the true roll they create, Scotty Cameron putters must be up there also, seeing as they're revered as the finest milled putters on earth...Comments?

Maybe the loft, swingwieght, grip, shaft, toe hang and offset had something to do with it. I don't believe the grooves make any real difference in performance.

After putting my Swained out Callie in my bag I dumped two Scotty's (Studio Design 1 and 5). I also have a Marilyn which I won. I have no need to replace either of those.
I watch the bounce and skid from other peoples putters and the difference is night a day. I try some of my friends putters while they are trying mine and I can hear the ball skipping on the grass off the face of their putters.
A couple of weeks ago the pro in our clubhouse told me I should work for Yes because most of the sales start out with, I tried his putter and I want one.

I have a TracyII as well and in comparison with 2 other blade style putters the grooves do make a noticable difference.

Swain's done a piece with a highspeed camera, and the YES! putters do put an earlier roll on the ball than other putters.

Why not try a UST Frequency Filtered shaft? This should provide more feedback than the shaft you have in there now. Stock, I assume....
This may provide you with the feedback you desire with the Tracy II head which you like anyways.

Frequency Filtered Putter Shaft
The first true putter shaft technology in more than 70 years.
The new Frequency Filtered™ putter shaft amplifies touch and feel. And if you like to feel every putt, then you are about to feel real good. This radically new putter shaft design improves the ability of all players to perceive or feel where ball impact occurs on the face. This instantaneous feedback results in improved putting ability since the player learns to consistently stroke more putts on the sweet spot of the putter. Feel becomes clearer and so does the confidence to make solid contact to sink more putts.
Filtering Diffuser in the mid-section filters out higher, unwanted vibrations. Therefore, only the true feeling of the ball impacting the putter face is released to the hands.
Interlinked Carbon fiber in the butt-section creates a tremendous amount of hoop strength for a consistently solid feel in the hands.
Steel tip-section makes the shaft a perfect fit for the hottest putter heads on the market.
Frequency Filtered putter shafts are available in 7 tip-bend configurations.

can't speak for the Scotties but in my limited experience with the Yes and Guerin Rife putters I certainly noticed a difference.. I am not sure if it is the roll grooves or a lower loft or a combo off both.

i definitely agree with alain on this one about the UST shaft. It took me a bit to understand what putting feedback should feel like but in my diana it's amazing. i've used a SC redx2 with the stock and the ust and it felt like night and day. i also used the stock shaft in my dianna and that was a different feel. I totally reccomend the UST if your looking for more feel IMO.
i love my dianna with the UST shaft. I think either Swain or Racmbs still had a tracy II with the UST in it that you can demo.

i had the same Tracy II and wondered the same...Picked up a Newport Detour 2 last week ...I like the roll, the feel I'm not used to yet...
one thing of note, I'm not aligning the putts well with the SC due to the way I line up putts....maybe the Circa 62#3 would have been a better choice for me...
when you get yours...we can compare and and maybe we'll swap if you prefer the detour :D

haha cool to see there's someone in the same boat. I checked out the Detour at golf town and just could not put with it. I found the alignment really strange due to the curve of the back piece - I think it's supposed to encourage the arc of the putting stroke or something? haha anyway, I'm a more traditional-leaning guy when it comes to golf clubs, as you can probably tell from my WITB - so I figured this putter would be perfect for me! I'll let you know my findings when I get it. I ordered through the course I work at, so I get quite a discount over GT - it should be here on Tuesday! :D

Cool! I am going through the Scotty vs Yes putter thing myself for the last 2 years and have just finally made the decision.
No doubt, Scotty's have great feel. Play the Mil-Spec which is totally adjustable for loft and lie. Have played the putter at different lengths, even put in a counter weight and played around with it at different weights. But the sweet spot in my Scotty's is so small, that especially when lag putting, I could easily come up 10-12 feet short when I miss the sweet spot.. Has happened too often. Grrrrrr.....
As for YES putters. I have a Marylin. Puts an excellent role on the ball. Feel is muted but thats what you get with most MOI putters. You have to give up something to get something else. Very forgiving. MOI technology works. That is, when you miss the sweet spot very little energy is lost. I have also adjusted the length a few times.
The winner? Two weeks a go I shot a 73 with two 3-putts. ARGHH!!! And I'm usually a good lag putter. Marylin has gone back in the bag. Like night and day compared to Scotty, especially when lag putting. Yesterday was my best putting round of the year and it was also the first day with her back in the bag @ 34". YES all the way.

As a putter afficianado, I own a few yes' and quit a few scotties. The yes does get the ball rolling nicely, and for many that is enough.... But the importance of hitting the sweet spot on a scottie is almost the most beautiful part of it, as it makes the perfect sound and truest roll. It almost makes you have to put a better stroke on it. Its so pure, it goes right through your hands and into your heart... Do I sound biased? Nothing is knocking my tricked out Newport Detour 2 out of the bag for a bit. But my Callie-f is giving me that come hither stare from across the room as I type....:p

Last year, I was at the TaylorMade Matt Centre.
After being tested for woods and irons, I rolled putts for about 30 minutes in front of their technology. The assistant explained to me how putters have improved, MOI, etc., and showed me computer readings on various TM putters.
While he didn't have a SC for me to compare it with, he claimed that they are very low in MOI relative to other modern putters.
Of course, I don't think he was happy when I proceeded to use my low MOI 15 year old Odyssey putter, and went on a tear like I was a teenager again and made about 10 thirty-footers in a row!

It's interesting that you compared a completely different model in Yes! versus the Scotty Cameron's you have. Perhaps a mallet nor a blade style putter suits you and a heel toe putter is better. I wonder what your opinion is if you had a Scotty Cameron heel/toe weighted putter vs a Yes! heel/toe weighted putter.
Maybe the loft, swingwieght, grip, shaft, toe hang and offset had something to do with it. I don't believe the grooves make any real difference in performance.
The grooves don't but the lack of loft does.
