I heard that because Gray Silo is a municipally owned golf course the employee's make good money. Someone told me that they heard the marshals make $18 per hour and if that's the case, I want a job lol. Does anyone know the real figures? If not do you know what courses pay better then others in say a proshop job for someone looking to work under the head pro and take the CPGA PAT?

I just thought this might be a less obtrusive way, I am not going to call them out of the blue and be like "What do you guys make an hour" it's just not professional

why is it unprofessional to ask what a position pays? call the general manager and ask. One of the first questions I ask following an interview is what is the compensation for the position, unless it is discussed during the interview. ;)

If you want a job, you need to show that you're interested in more than just the money. It's a pretty big red flag if someone starts asking about salary before they are even offered the job.
You'll find out how much the position pays if you are offered the job. The salary is irrelevant if you don't get an offer.

Songman is right!!! Why would you waste their time considering you if the pay isn't enough. Pay discussion should be included as you might not be able to live on what they are offering you and then you are wasting everyones time.

Salary expectations are definitely part of any interview process. It is a topic that evolves during discussion.
What you need to do is find out all you can about the City of Waterloo, why Grey Silo was created, and what the principles are behind it.
You have to demonstrate to a potential employer that you understand their business and make sure you tell them how you can personally add value to improve what they do. If they like what they hear, they'll bring up salary expectations.

Money is where you start
Not sure what what your experience is when applying for a job but discussion around money/salary is not the starting point.
