I should have posted this in my last question. Would it be possible for any of you that are members of CL east GTA clubs to tell me what they like or dislike about there home clubs as I would like to join soon. I guess I'm just asking for your opinions as id like more than just CL official opinions. Post here or PM me if you would rather. Thanks in advance.

I've been a member at Cherry Downs (Pickering) now for 8 years.

Likes:
-haven't gotten tired of the course (challenging)
-members are great and you can always find members to play with
-pretty good condition

Dislikes
-clubhouse could be updated
-bunkers (but new bunkers are being put in right now)
-small driving range and this year for some reason hitting off of mats most of the time

Cherry Downs in the East....stupidest greens I've ever played on. Agreed that the bunkers are in the worst shape of any CL course I've played, but they are doing some nice work there by fixing all of the bunkers.

Great track for a challenge though, holes are nicely cutout and it's a beautiful track to play in the fall....but I challenge you to find a handful of people that will sit there and look at you in the face and seriously tell you they "love" the slope at Cherry. If they do, they need their noodle checked.

But your best option is to have a CL member take you out to play it, so you can make your own decision after having played it at least a few times, to give it a fair shake. I love a challenge, but if it weren't for the slope their I'd give the course a solid 8.5/10 as I do love the layout and feel it will be a 9/10, once the bunkers are all done.

If you want to play it, give me a PM and I'll set something up and get a foursome out there to let you try it, even though I've sworn I'll never set foot on that course again....will do it to help a fellow TGN'er out. :)

Unfortunately your not going to find many affordable course in the east end of CL. There are 4 platinums, 3 golds, 1 silver, 1 daily fee golf course.

all the platinums are big $$$ like over 30k
the 3 golds are Cherry downs, Station Creek, Diamond Back which Cherry is the most affordable right now because of special pricing right now. Station i find not really worth it's money but tends to have corporate days a lot which kinda means your course is always beat up with hackers. Diamond i find is just over priced but right now is looking in the best shape i have seen it in the last 2 yrs.

personally i would join Highland Gate if your looking for a great home course for an affordable price, but there is one downfall your at a silver level. I love this course it is always in great condition and the members & staff there are amazingly friendly there. This course maybe short but it is very tight and demands controlled shot making throughout to score. Unfortunately there is no practice facility but you can skip over to Kings Riding and use their practice facility since it is around the corner.

There will always be opportunities down the road for upgrades to higher level courses. Plus on corporate days you can visit any course you want in clublink with no reciprocal fee. Sorry for the long post but i tried to sum up as much as i know about the courses in the east end.

if really depends if you need morning access on the weekend or you have a wide playing pattern (time wise). cause if you're not time constrained, the best deal in CL is to just join Caledon Woods at 9.5K. they also have some of the lowest annuals in the gold tier of clubs.

if you are exclusively a weekend morning player, I feel Diamondback is the best for day in and day out repeat playing. With a lot of players gone to Wyndance, it's not as busy now and the conditions show it. As Nobdyhere mentioned, I'm very impressed by the recent cleaning up of the course (walk ways and tee areas) and the course conditions are notably better.

Station Creek, I avoid, good track once in awhile but tires....although I hear the food is good this year

Country Club - not mentioned much cause they have a very large membership that carried over before the CL take over that plays a large amount of rounds on their home course. Hard to book a decent weekend time for members and outside members. The course it self is fun and has very good repeatability without boredom too easily. There are 2 x18 holes courses and an executive 9 which is actually quite good. When my wife was a member we found MOST of the members friendly and didn't treat you any different as you were a "club link" member and not an original Board of Trade member. It's a bit pricey now at 37K...Diamond is better

Kings Riding - if you're considering dropping 37K, I'd pay the 3K difference and join this club. Smaller club, fun course layout, greens could be better condition but just an intimate small club with a great friendly staff. The "view's" not bad either.

Cherry Downs - great value at the current rates. Facilities look old but still very functional. The course plays well ....but it's not a FUN daily course...challenging and it will definitely improve your game. The weakest part is the par 3's. They all play similar yardages (except #9) and up hill. Also there are too many par 3's. The par 4/5's are all great holes though.

Highland Gate - very fun track that I can play a couple times a month easily. Wouldn't want it as my exclusive play 5+ times a month course though. it does get a little tiring if you play it that much, but I'd choose to play HG over SC any day. Being a silver course, it does restrict your access to the whole CL network without fees (Muskoka courses, 3 in the montreal area, KR, EH, Wyndance, Glencarin). Also, when I was at HG, getting times seem harder at outside courses (conspiracy theory?). during corporate days, you still need to pay to play King Valley/Greystone...but the platinum courses became free.

Emerald Hills - save the money and join Kings Riding.

Wyndance - should have joined at launch (29.5K)

I wish I had a tape-recorder for your words after playing Cherry last week.

By the way bro, how DID those CC's pan out for you, after putting on CD's greens. :p :D

When did Copetown Woods become a clublink course? ;)

Hey easy big guy on our lovely CD greens, ok? I hear you on the slopes but it does force you to become a better short game artist and putter. I know my short game is now good enough to play there.

BTW, if your wedding jitters are getting the better of you and need a dose of swatting at a little white ball for 4 hrs, you are welcome to join us at Highland Gates at 3:13 on Friday.
