Don't get hung up on Myrtle Beach. There are lots of areas in South Carolina with good golf courses for less $.

Try looking at Santee-Cooper.

Definitely check ou Caledonia in Pawleys Island, also Kings North and True Blue if you can. Caledonia is one of the nicest tracks I've every had the pleasure to play. Great service and some real southern charm...

Absolutely. But that's also part of the reason why it costs more.

After doing 36 of golf, there ain't much mojo left for the apres at my age!:)

No offence, but the "good" courses in Santee do not compare at all to the good courses in Myrtle Beach. And as mentioned there it 's lots of apres golf.

Myrtle can be inexpensive, especially if you are going off season. Lots to do down there outside of golf, if that is what you are looking for.

Lots of great courses as well, but there is no sense in recommending any unless you know where you are staying. It's a big area, and you can spend more time driving to courses than actually golfing if you book in the other end of town than where you are staying.

Very nice, but I preferred the Nicklaus-designed "Pawley's Plantation" :)

also LOVE "Kings North", "Tidewater", and all of the "Barefoot" courses EXCEPT the 'Norman' course.
