both these courses are of the same designer and both wicked courses in their own respects. first I have Black Bear Ridge as i seem to have left the Smuggler's pics on the camera anyway enjoy.

Songman,
I have to correct you on one thing. These are not both from the same designer. Black Bear was designed by the owner Brian McGee. He had a little help from his friend Jack, but Jack never visited the site. I do believe that the finishing crew that did Smuggler's may have done most of Black Bear, but the owner even took over that near the end.
Mule - Who also agrees with Big Shooter that you should have played next door at Trillium

I haven't played BBR, just Trillium a few times when home for a visit. The best tip I have won't help your game but after the round, stop at Jim's Pizza in town for the best darn pizza you ever ate. mac

I also played Black Bear Ridge last Monday - superb course (Trillium Wood was booked solid). I would agree with the general sentiment that BBR is the better course but TW is the better value. Both are worth playing.
At both courses there will be bugs, so be prepared. Both courses are cut through the forest, so short and straight is usually better than long and crooked on most holes. TW has more water, while BBR has more bunkering - both require you to think on the tee box about club selection instead of automatically pulling out the driver. BBR has better conditioning and faster greens, but TW was also in very nice shape. Both courses are walkable, but BBR is tougher as there are a few hills to climb.
BTW SoNgMaN, nice pictures - but how come there are none of the cart girl? I thought she looked very photogenic!
