View Full Version : A return to Osprey Valley after 14 years.....

I remember 18 holes and a trailer as a clubhouse...... 14 years represents the age of my oldest child and the fact it is a good hour's drive from Yonge & the 401 with no shortcuts, makes it a course I just haven't returned to in all these years...... And I missed it.....

So everyone is away and I decide spur of the moment to make the trek and play Heathlands.

With all the comments about it being empty and sometimes you do not see other golfers, imagine my shock to see three groups on the first hole @ 3:00 today (twilight)......

Join a father/son and the pace is slow (not terrible) and come the 8th again there are four groups on the hole.

Jump over to 18 and then back on the first tee (with the marshals blessing) a little after 5..... Say goodby to the Father/Son telling them to enjoy the round together and no need for the third wheel and off I go.

What I remember from 14 years ago was the same today..... The course fits my eye and I am comfortable playing it. Again being alone I took the course as a 6400 yard driving range playing two balls.... Catch up to another single, also playing two balls and we play the back nine together. Done just after 8:15.

Observations:

Great, enjoyable walk and one where you can (GTA courses this quality would definitely be cart only).

Fairways like carpets, thick and soft, perfect for those who clip the ball like me.

Greens were very receptive and some may think slow, though some faster then others and lots of undulation. Rolled incredibly true.

Fairways seemed wide (or at least my balls found them) and I was lucky to stay out of the fescue.

Still too far a drive, the Milcroft to stay at is expensive, but what a gorgeous fun place to play......

The Heathlands is one of my favourite courses. Enjoyable and challenging at the same time. Glad the finally got a range and practice green after all them years.

Anthony,

Looks like your foot has healed?

Yes, thanks for asking, just a bruise.... I was more worried how it would affect me getting out, with my family away.

Outside private courses, very few as nice as Osprey that you can walk.

TIP: Pay full price, go a bit before twilight starts and have the course to yourself...

Just wondering what time Twilight starts at Osprey's?
Being a student, the only way I can play Osprey's is by the Twilight rate... plus doesn't hurt to have the course to myself either... :)

There were a surprising # of people off before twilight.... I was there @ 2:50, and as said there were at least 2-3 groups slowing us down.... Worked out in any case.

Played the hoot today at 2:10 in just under 3 hours walking by myself. People often book the 3:00 spot, and of course they take precident over any walk ons. It can very often get really busy from 2:30 until 3:30, so it can get pretty busy out there in spurts. I played through 2 groups with no trouble. Great day out there today.:D
