Just wondering which ones are the better ones around the GTA.....the ones that I know of so far are:

Nagoya
on Kennedy & 14th Ave.

Sushi Hut
Metro Square (Warden & Steeles)

there's also one at Bamburgh Circle (Warden & Steeles) but I forget the name......

Obviously I'm a huge fan of japanese food! :D

the one on hwy 7 between warden & kennedy, dang forgot the name at the moment...oh yes, Yang's Kitchen, it's pretty good, and they have a fried banana dessert which you have to go early since they sell out of that real quick.

bamburgh is awesome also

and sushi hut at metro square is good too...

There's one at first Markham, don't remember the name either, but it's the only one with Sushi buffet. The other japanese restaurant near it doesn't have buffet. Both are near the corner with the Chinese Dessert.

But what's Sushi Buffet when you have to pay extra for Butter Fish!? Anyone know of a Sushi Buffet that serves unlimited Butter Fish? It's THE BEST SUSHI, way better than salmon, tuna, hamachi or octopus!

Tip from Restauranteur at Yokoyama, make sure the Butter Fish is all white. If it's a bit yellow, no good, most likely dead fish frozen and shipped!

you're right about that, butterfish is da shizzle...haha...unfortunately not offered at Yang's Kitchen (avail but have to pay extra  )

ego, i think you're right, the place at bamburgh has it i believe...

There's a Jap Rest on Woodbine just north of Hwy 407 on the east side, same side as Costco. They have good quality food there and is also all you can eat. They also have more selection than your average all you can eat jap buffet. Service was good and there's private booths to sit in where you actually have to take your shoes off. HAI!

hmm yummy! All this talk about Butterfish is making me hungry! In reply to Ego's question about other restaurants... I know there is one on Sheppard east of McCowan and one on the Danforth near Pape Ave. I've been to both but they are sub-par according to other places I've been to. I really like the Sushi Hut at Metro Square on Steeles Ave. and also Nagoya at Kennedy and 14th Ave. So when can we go for a sushi buffet dinner?

Just went there for lunch today and it was one of the poorest quality all you can eat jap buffets I've ever gone to. Located at Bambough Circle next to Sam Woo, under new management. Ordered butterfish but it was so unfresh that it was fishy in taste and the texture was stiff and slimy. Other sushi had small pieces of fish with lots of rice. Service was average with some staff not able to explain what certain dishes are. Overall, thumbs down.

Wow, I know that restaurant you're talking about and whenever I went there, it was pretty darn good.......could be that the fish was not fresh cuz it was the oldest.......might be the new mgt...if it is, then that's too bad......

Hey, i heard about the management change also, someone was telling me they changed about 2 weeks ago and started running a lot of television ads on the chinese television channel...
when i went there it was pretty good before, service was average (expected from asian restaurants) but fish was definitely fresh...
hmm, maybe i'll be avoidiing there now that they are under new management...

went to Nagoya at Kennedy & 14th, food was good, service was so-so (as expected)

one thing is they gotta change the limited white tuna sashimi policy, i mean for 4 people they bring out 4 pieces of white tuna...ack...

yeah a lot of places limit their butterfish, but don't worry, only a matter of time until they start giving it unlimited.....more and more AYCE japanese places coming up, and it's gonna get much more competitive.....

no never heard about that, but HK style steak? i dunno about that, the cut of beef is probably pretty bad, HK people eat steak with ketchup hehe...

Sushi on 7

oh man, i'm surprised once again no one posted this earlier...

this little gem is located in the Pizza Nova plaza on the north side of Highway 7, just west of Kennedy Road.

this place has unlimited butterfish sashimi, that just makes it stand out above all the other AYCE Japanese buffets. also on top of that, they claim to have over 180 items on the buffet menu. For me, I like the soft shell crab roll (spider rolls). Feed me spider rolls and butterfish all night long and I'm happy haha...

one thing to becareful is that their bill is pretty unclear, so don't get scammed into paying double tips. this place is busy, so make reservations!

you have to reserve... and the only seat at specific intervals (since they have a time limit) so i think the times are 7 and 8:30 or something like that...

edit: also, seating sucks you get sunken in on the couches you sit on and the tables are then evidently too high for a good eating posture

i don't particularly like chinese style white food...
i mean, if i were to eat western food, why don't i just go to a western restaurant?

the steak sauces all kinda taste the same (although they name it differently)
um... the chicken wings are bad...
mussels are ok...
cheesecake is a full slice (be careful after you eat a bunch of hearty steaks)
i wouldn't recommend ordering the pasta if you plan on eating lots of steaks
the salmon is ok...

as for the jap buffets
the one at sheppard and mccowan is called ten ichi... i like it..
there is another nagoya at bayview and 16th... this one has the $9.99 lunch buffet (no sashimi and other goodies, but still good for its price)
another at richlane (leslie/16th) which isn't very good
and bayview and 407 (across from thornlea -- which also isn't that great)

Mok
Nov 9, 2004, 10:01 PM
this reminds me, for buffet, stay away from the ichiban at leslie & finch, worse place EVER! sashimi is limited, they say limit is 12 pieces each person or something, then all the pieces are tiny! selection of food was not great, and freshness? what freshness!

Hi Ego Woods.
Did you try the Sushi on 7?
If so, how was it?
How much was it?
Was it an all inclusive all you can eat buffet, or do you have to pay extra?

Thanks

Hey eddar! Sushi on 7 is a great restaurant! They so many items to choose from and I believe I paid around $20+taxes and tip for the whole thing. They also serve butterfish sashimi, that's really good! *slurp*....one thing I didn't like is that you have to call the waiters every time you want to re-order....I'm use to places where I can just mark down how many of each item I want....:D

Also becareful not to add MORE tip, because gratuity is already included when u get the bill!

Hi I'm from Redflagdeals.com
This place is great, and with the 10% off it gets even better. Their salmon and butterfish sashimi are some of the best I've ever had.

I just went here yesterday for sushi dinner buffet. I think it's Shyo Shyo or something. They have unlimited Butterfish too, but you pay $18.99 instead of $17.99 for the dinner. Their sashimi is ok, not sure if it's because they freeze it to avoid contamination. Their spider rolls were excellent, not too much rice, I hate sushi buffets that make their rolls filled with rice to stuff the patrons.

HOSU (Commerce Gate)

Price $17.99

went there 5pm on wed.

they have a 15% discount if you are finished and paid by 6pm...i finished later than 6pm, i eat a lot

gratituty was included on the bill already, which is ok by me

sashimi (4 types) - salmon, butterfish, snapper and forgot the last one...not important to me haha, i only order salmon & butterfish ... i must say salmon was not very fresh and the cut of the salmon sucked, butterfish on the other hand was amazing, good temperature (not frozen in the middle like some other places)

maki - a lot of types, spider roll was good, i didn't find that they went overboard with the rice, your experience may be different

something that i liked about this buffet is they have korean food...that means lots of cooked items for those of you that don't like raw fish

and oh yes, there were 3 of us at my table so i ordered 1 order of salmon and 1 order of butterfish to begin with so they gave me 3 pieces of each...the next time i ordered i put down salmon x 7, butterfish x 7...they gave me 21 pieces of each so they don't limit you

canned pops are included in the buffet price, although cola or any other sodas will fill you up faster

and you write down the number of the item, no need to tell the server your long list of order!

waitresses were very friendly and very helpful! A+ for that...that's what a dining experience should be, customers are paying for food and the service...

only the location at Commerce Gate has AYCE....i went to HOSU at Yonge and Eglinton on Tuesday night, $10 for 8 pieces of spider maki...kinda steep for me since I eat so much of that stuff at buffets. Quality was good though, so I guess you pay for what you get. The spider maki at commerce was almost as good as at Yonge & Egl...

Maison du Japon
7500 Woodbine Ave. Markham, ON (John & Woodbine)

Went there last night with a couple of friends. Six people in total.

This all you can eat Japanese restaurant was very good. We started out with the miso soup. They have a variety of sashimi, we ordered the white tuna, salmon, crab and surf clam. Sashimi was very fresh, and the pieces of fish were pretty big (good thickness, surface area large) We didn't order any sushi. We tried some of the maki rolls, of course I ordered spider rolls, my favourite! Spider roll is comparable to those of a la carte Japanese restaurant's spider rolls. Other maki rolls we tried were the Arctic roll, spicy salmon roll, black dragon roll and salmon skin roll. All were excellent.

If you're not a fan of raw fish, there are lots of cooked items such as pan fried dumplings, teriyaki beef steak/chicken/salmon, tempera shrimp/vegetables, fried rice and beef rolls.

They had 4 flavours of ice cream to choose from; ginger, red bean, mango and green tea.

I highly recommend!

Once I saw this Group I knew it was for me, I love Asian Buffets.

I was looking for a new place when I saw all the comments about Sushi on 7. I tried it last night, the sushi was good. I'm not sure if I will make it a place I will attend on a regular basis. The service for me was a little slow, there were three us there and we would order about 4 or 5 maki roles and it took so long to get that order we ended up ordering again and finally our first order came.. it got a little confusing on what was coming and what I had ordered. Also the servers never really came by and checked with us to see if everything was good or ok. It was hard to their attention so I could order. Other then a little slow service the Sushi was very good, lots of variety of sushi.

Overall I give Sushi on 7 - OOOD - Three 1/2 Maki rolls. I highly recommend!

I have also tried Sushi Village on Martin Grove and 7, in the Weston Produce Mall. I have been the Village a few times now. Their price structure and buffet style is basically the same, though it is larger then Sushi on 7. They have an "A" & "B" price plan. The A place I think was the highest, which got you everything for $20. They have a little more variety then Sushi on 7. They also have a check list paper that you order from and just give to the server. I liked this option. I’ve been four times and the service each time was pretty prompt and the servers came to my table to check on me often, for Woodbridge good service is a rare thing.

Overall, I give Sushi Village - OOOO - Four Maki rolls. I highly recommend!

Maison du Japon!, was the second option after reading the thread here..
Next time I will try it. The recommendations on this board are worth listening too.. Sushi on 7 was worth the trying.

"Maison du Japon"?
Is that French cuisine cooked up Tokyo-style? :)
or is that Parisian teppanyaki?

it's just the name of the restaurant...no French style Japanese food here....just good AYCE Japanese food.

Dinner is about 21 bucks, lunch is 12 i think? The only difference between the two is that you are not allowed to order sashimi for lunch .. imo its a much better deal because the sushi/handrolls do just fine.

And if you come in a group of 4+ they have some rooms where you can sit on the padded floor in japanese style (these are limited so you should try to book one in advance). Oh and it comes with all you can drink pop.

You guys should check out Sake at Pacific Mall. It is located at the South West corrner of the mall. It is not in the mall it's an outside entrance. The food is good there.

Has anyone tried Akina? It's also an AYCE sushi place, at Denison/Kennedy. I've tried both Maison du Japon, and Akina, and I would say the latter fares much better in terms of quality and service. (The service is surprisingly FRIENDLY, given that it's an asian restaurant!) Prices are comparable, and they often offer a 15% discount.

there's a pretty good sushi place at victoria park and sheppard, near the chuck e cheese. good service, food, and price. no, it's not all you can eat...

if you're really picky about sushi and not so picky about price, there's an EXCELLENT sushi take-out place at sheppard and pharmacy... it's a little south of pharmacy on the west side (there's a tiny plaza there). there's also a japanese grocery store there, too. the guy who helps run the lunch place is a chef named "Kaji". he's probably one of the best sushi chefs in the province and his restaurant (kaji on queensway) is very renown.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I don't know anything about golf, but food...I'm your go-to person!!

Anyways, you mean to say that Kaji also works at a take out place? I've been to his restaurant (Sushi Kaji) and as it's quite upscale, I find it kinda odd that he would branch out into the world of take-out. I guess the notion of "take out" conjures up the opposite image of the "Kaji brand".

Just my two cents...

It's high quality take out! Plus, it's more like he plans out the menu and decides how the kitchen should be run... I dunno if he actually cooks there.
