As a complete newbie to this game, I was wondering what reference material would be recommended for someone just starting out. I've read the thread on Hogan's Fundamentals, and I'll try to find a copy in my travels today. Also, some of the links I found here so far have been great.
I've booked a few lessons, and plan on practising a couple of times a week between each lesson, but what else would you recommend a new player read or watch to get the basics better?
Just a note, I am a COMPLETE newcomer to golf, and although eagar to learn, I'm not quite up on the terminology, so if you can dumb it down abit, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Str8, there are quite a few books/videos that were recommended on this forum. I'm a strong proponent of working on the short game (from 100 yards to the hole) because I believe these are the real stroke-savers. I'm not familiar with the titles, but I would try to find books by Dave Pelz and Stan Utley. They are widely recognized as the two "gurus" for short game improvement.
I've also placed a lot of "tips" on the forum over the past year. You can find them by searching for "golf tips" under my screen name in the "instruction" category. They've been pretty well received and may help as well.

practical golf by john jacobs is fantastic. the golf swing is explained in a simple, yet effective, "cause and effect" type of approach. this book will get you off to a great start for a low price. i believe i paid less than $20.

Every shot must have a purpose - Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriot with Ron Serak.
Golf is not a game of perfect - Bob Rotella
Golf: How good do you want to be? - Bill Kroen
Couple these with the lessons with your pro, and you'll be fine.
Another decent read is 'The Elements of Scoring' - Raymond Floyd.
I wish someone had suggested these to me when I started out, vs mechanical 'how to' books.

Scored a copy of Hogan's Fundamentals at Chapters...think it was the only copy, didn't see anything else. Picked up a $10 bargin bin one as well...The Thinking Man's Guide to Golf by Colin Montgomerie.
I'll keep my eyes open for the others suggested as well. Thanks guys.
