Ok, so lets say just two weeks ago, you lost in a playoff and now this week you look online and the winner is your group at the next event.
You mentally play this how ??

I'd look at it as an opportunity to win this time. You had the game to make it all the way to the playoff. Stay positive :)

Agreed. Positive focus is so much better than negative focus. With negative focus, you're beating yourself before you even get to the event.

It isn't match play. Play your game and ignore him....he might shoot 90.
I beat a 5 handi today, both gross and, obviously, net, but if I had thought about beating him on gross I would have been toast. Just played my game. Most of the time I didn't have a clue what he was shooting on a hole.

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. Just ignore him (and everyone else) altogether and play YOUR game. That's the only thing that you can control. That said, best of luck, Will!

Ok, so lets say just two weeks ago, you lost in a playoff and now this week you look online and the winner is your group at the next event. You mentally play this how ??I never watched much boxing, but once I seen a lower ranked guy step in the ring with Mike Tyson. I mentioned it to the boys before the start of the match that it was over before it started, since you could see it in the other guys eyes. He didn't get to the 2nd round. It was basically over before it started.
Tomorrow have a positive optimistic attitude and do not want the win so bad you can taste it, or it will never happen. For 15 seconds after you select your club, the only important thing is hitting a pure shot ... this you can control and you have done it many times before. For your 69 shots tomorrow the only important thing is to stay in the moment and give all of your attention to executing the shots you know how to make.
As a parent years ago I learned a great lesson from 'fb'. Once in a provincial qualifier [1 of only 3 sites] he shot even par 72 and had the clubhouse lead with only 2 groups left out on the course. One kid in the last group shot a 70 or 71 and I was disappointed he didn't get the qualifier win. He said to me, dad I shot a personal best tournament round 'even par 72' and I birdied the last 2 holes to shoot even and finish strong. I can only control my score not what someone else posts for a number.
Remember when you played the tour with 'fb' he told me you were a great ballstriker, so just execute the shots like you do in practice and have fun. Don't get your stomach so tight in a knot that you have excess tension.
Good luck tomorrow WILL ...

I see from the GLT web site you came in tied for 5th. How did the nerves hold up? What was the same and different this time around, except not getting into a playoff :D Mentally what worked and what didn't

Caddied for Will. He was a little nervous but he was the low man in the group. Did beat the person he lost in the playoffs. Made 2 doubles and both were from bad shots off the tee, one with Driver and one with a 4I. Putting continues to be his downfall. Will is not a bad putter, but a nervous one. He needs to feel a lot more confident on the 5-7 footers. He is not stroking those with authority. If he putted half as well he would have shot 70. In my opinion he left at least 3 putts that were makeable and a couple that were borderline makeable. Will's ball striking with the irons is very good and he is very confident with them. To get to the next level, he need to have a better short game especially the putting.
Just my 2 cents worth. Enjoyed caddying for Will and we had a great time.

I personally thought it was the one driver on #17 and the one 4 iron tee balls that prevented a winning score.
#17 landed in the hazard causing double. 4 iron laded in the trees dead causing pitch out. I should have saved bogie there though.
I do have to agree that several more putts could have fallen but I did make 5 birds.
Nerves were Ok though. I do get kinda sick of watching guys bomb it past me all day which wouldn't matter at all if I hit every fairway. Fact is, I don't.
Lots more work to do on the range I guess.

Will, I hear ya and my heart pounds.... I do think it is time to get rid of the bag hang those shoes up forever. You have had a good run and you may as well just pass those clubs over to me now and you know I will look after them.
No really, it is you and the course. Forget anyone or anything else. We (people of the game) create competition against each other, but it is always in relation to the course. Forget that; YOU OWN THAT COURSE!!! You play your game and your game only!!!! Nothing else matters. It is one ball, one hole and you! Plain and simple.
Play it your way, then send my your Nikes!

Not a chance RR! The NIKE blades are still whats workin best. The driver and the putter are fighting for their lives right now but in all honesty .... its me.
I still suffer from not having the club pointed at the target at the top of the backswing. That laid-off position I used to have every swing, still creeps in and rears its' ugly head ruining any chance of going low.
Unfortunately, we're creatures of habit and old bad habits don't die quick enough. I figure another 4 million practice balls and I'll have it down.
Thanks for thr well wishes, boys.
