I counted 53. But I'm sure there will be some drop-offs and add-ons along the way.
When is the cut-off date to sign-up? Looking at over 40, will there be a limit to how many spots open?
Thanks for putting this togather Dave. Looking forward to it.

I spoke with Bob on Friday. I will have the final details on Monday. I begged him for the free cart.... He seemed a bit receptive. Please all be patient, I'm trying my best to keep this in the 80 dollar range. I've been crazy busy lately with my new business venture, so I just need a little slack, Jack.....
BTW, I'm constantly updating the player list, keep your eyes open to inform me of changes and omissions. Thanx

Nice nice... if you'd like I'll beg with you for the carts:D
Can't wait... this will be my final round of the season (plus minus a few more rounds) lol.
I just played Grey Silo and shot 88... Career best so far, and by the laws of yin and yang, I'll end up shooting 110 on Sunday.
I know you're busy and thank you for putting (is this word spelt the same way as "to putt"? I forget after so much golf:) ) all this together.

Sounds like you really want to be there even if you can't play. if the course would allow it, I think an official photographer/rules offical would be the icing on the cake and I would be up for pitching in for the cost of the cart. of course, for putting forward the idea, i would expect a couple of favourable rulings:D.

Oh man I'm so excited it's not funny!

Team Titleist " even though one plays Nike's" 4 Some ( Louie, GRT, Snipes 5150, Titleist75 ) Is that one or 2 that play Nike's? My titleist's are waiting to get re-gripped before I take them out again. So I am playing my Nike's. We may want to call us "Team Titlenike" although my titleist clubs will be there in spirit.:D
As for some other pairings....I have some "Deep thoughts" by Titleist75;)
TGN's "most wanted" 4 some ( Racmbs , Golfinggoalie, Swaaain, Sandee11 ) Tell me this team's ego isn't surpassed other than their club-ho'ing abilities and flatulence.
Clinton Boyz Posse 4 some I don't think there is enough beer on the course to keep these gentlemen satidfied.:p
RockinRonny Crew 4 some ( RR , Davevandyk, Luckyluc, G- Wabbit ) This group sounds like a Van Halen or Eagles reunion:hush:

Not to take anything way from Glow, because what he's doing is what I would consider monumental for that course by providing a tournament in mid September with 64 players.
But I agree with you that they could've thrown the carts in. 32 carts...
Sure it might be 10% loss in potential revenue, but that's worth it IMO to have that 5K~6K coming back next year without a doubt.
Plus, all the real money should and is made on the food and beverages.
I only say this because the course whenever I've played it has never been full or close to full and more importantly, I'm the laziest golfer when it comes down to walking... I'd rather cart. lol

Is a cart even needed? How walkable is this course?
This course is very walkable, I walk everytime I play there except if it's 100 plus % out. The Toot on the other hand has a steep elevation to it so it hard to walk. The Hoot is okay to walk but heathland is the most walkable.
As for the carts being thrown in I don't have a problem with that but I would of liked to see the range balls being given. I always had a problem paying for a warm up bucket when I pay that much $ and drive that far. Bob could of least given range balls, that would nice, thats a very minor cost considering we are bringing over $5000 worth of buis. to the course and that's if we all walk and that's not counting all the $$$ that will be spent on drinks and food. He gave us approx. $1300 discount but would he of made 64 bookings if we didn't come, I don't think so and I'm saying thanks for the $20 discount but a bucket of range balls would be a nice gesture.
Thanks to Dave for arranging this, you put in ton's of time to make this happen for us. Tom

Because we saw the group teeing off in front of us seems to be slow players, we went into the Pro shop and check the tee sheet. It was wide open from 10.20 on to about noon. We decided to reverse the nines and tee of on 10.
In my opinion Osprey is never busy because they do not offer any deals. There are 3 great courses but they either do not need all the business or the owner(s) have very deep pockets.

The owner does have deep pockets and is not out to make a big profit as wierd as that sounds.
He does this because he loves the game so he's not big on deals. I don't know if he has any background in playing golf but they have never offered any type of deals for anyone, service is good, course's are great but at least range balls.

A little on the chilly side but nonetheless no rain is good weather.
Just went down to GT at lunch and picked up 24 Nike balls for 30 bucks.
I was so tempted to buy the taylormades, but paying an extra 10 bucks for half the number of balls didn't seem smart.
Maybe if I can break 90's consistently, I'll think of picking up the upper echelon of balls.

OKAY PEOPLE..... HERE'S THE OFFICIAL SKINNY. I spoke to bob today, and we decided that the only way we could guarntee everyone would finish in a timely fashon was to have a modified shotgun start. All people should be there for our approximate start time of 12.30. 2 groups will go off of 1 thru 6 ( accounting for 48 players ) . All of the rest will go off of 1. Bob would prefer that if groups would prefer to walk, that they go off after the shotgunners. Not the law but certainly made it clear that it would be the best case scenario. Price will be 85 dollars walking or 105 riding. I will be the " cashier " per se and would prefer if everyone brought CASH so I can settle up with Bob afterwards. Their cashpoint at the course sucks so it will be much easier this way. If you NEED to pay via credit/ debit, come early to ensure a timely start. Bob will also have the BBQ going full force for those of you who are hungry before or afterwards. So far it would seem that we will have 2 long drive holes and 5 closest to the pins. Basically every par 3 on the course will be " in play " . Thanks to the many people who have offered to donate prizes for the event, especially Jeff at Swank Golf Studio, Pat ( Hamilton Hacker ) and Terry ( Leftygolfer30 ). I never thought it would be such a royal Pain in the rear quarters to organize one of these things... Makes me appreciate guys like Ronny and Dixon who do this stuff regularly. All that being said, hopefully this will be the first of many OV Invitationals. Look forward to seeing ya'll there.

I can walk or ride..but since I am doing an early morning round with a cart I think I get it for free for the second round...

I'm a part of this outing and figured I could at least ask a question in this thread. Trying to PM Dave was impossible....and he emails me at like midnight when I'm already in bed sleeping. :D
But, I feel the question is a legitimate one. People get tarred/feathered/banned for a lot less, I think the name is pushing it and can't figure out why that hasn't been censored. It personally doesn't bother me as I think it's all in the spirit of good fun, but if Management wants to start enforcing rules and ruling with an iron fist, then there has to be consistency.
Anyway, enough of that....it's an Opsrey Outing thread. We'll see what comes of the name and what the explanation is when I get a PM telling me I'm banned again for stating the obvious.

Also for those wanting to play skins, we should have this organized as well. If you want Dave, I can compile the list of players and slap them onto a spreadsheet so you can keep track of who's paid to participate.

Great day. Thanks to Dave for organising the event. Yes, other then their 3 great Golf courses, Osprey has the worse facilities. Imagine 1 server when you have close to 60 golfers coming in at a time when they need food and drinks. The server was very pleasant but overwhelmed.

I agree with the above posts. The golf course was spectacular, one of my favourite in the area, that's for sure. I didn't mind the service on the course, as i saw the beer girls about 3 or 4 times. Was a little disappointed that there was no half-way house, but other than that i couldn't complain

Oh, btw, I think your 4-some was in front of us the whole way through. I think on the 3rd hole par 4, I was about 220 yards from the green. I hit one of my very few nice hybrid shots of the day to the edge of the green. I saw all the heads turn back.
Sorry for that, but I needed to hit that shot cuz if you were off the green I'm pretty sure that I would've hit my shot like 150 yards instead of 200 yards. :$ :D

WAAAAAAAAAAY too much sand in the bunkers. I didn't mind it that much in the greenside bunkers, but when you step into a fairway bunker and your feet sink in 5-7 inches in the bunker, you really don't have much a shot to hit it really solid.

No one said the course was easy.....;) I thought the pins were a bit on the tough side..... ant hills, anyone?:D
Course was in great shape, pin placements didn't bother me at all as I like it when they are a little more challenging. Typical Carrick design, lots of fescue and boy oh boy was the fesuce punishing if you landed in it. I'd say about 8 shots on my scorecard were lost because of poor tee shots that ended up in that poo....
My beefs are:
1. Greens were too fuzzy, lacked consistency. I pride myself on being an excellent putter and was very disappointed in the greens.
2. Bunkers have TOO much sand (Carrick's biggest issue as all his tracks are like this). Greens side bunkers I'm OK with if they have 3-5" of sand, but like Dave said if you are in a fairway bunker and the sand resembles that of a beach, then that's just plain stupid.
3. WHERE'S THE CART CHICK! We saw her ONCE...and by the time we saw her again, we had 3 holes left and were parched.
4. Price....$85 to walk that track, given it's location is not worth it IMHO. If I'm going to drive that far, most I'd be willing to pay for this place is $65 all in, minus the range/powercart. Copetown is just as good and about the same distance, I'd much rather play there and feel like I'm not getting hosed.
I'd have to say though that the biggest disappointment that day was with the course owners. With Dave bringing 60+ people to an event to fill up a course that doesn't seem to get that much play, and not even toss in something like a burger at the turn (how could they though, NO halfway house), or even tossing in the power carts for everyone would have made the drive feel all the more worthwhile. I doubt the course would really have lost that much money in giving away 30 carts (ok, so $600 is a lot of money, but making 60+ guys happy is WORTH it), there were plenty of people spending money at the course on food & bevies that would have easily made up the difference. Biggest loss for the owners at Osprey on Sunday was in the F&B zone as they had no presence on the course and could have cleaned up with us. I sure could have used a sandwhich and drink halfway through, instead we resorted to eating wild berries and listening to Gerry break wind the rest of the day to the tune of "Eye of the Tiger".
That being said, I still appreciate Dave putting all the effort into making it a great day for all of us and had a great time with my group, especially watching Gerry play with that enormous hat on his head. I will certainly go back to the course next year and play it once, maybe twice depending on a deal they might slam together IF anyone from Osprey cares to read the feedback from our group after this event, on TGN.
And oh, one last thing. To the driver of the white BMW Z3 that road my @ss on Hwy 10, driving 100+ in an 80 zone like he was on the Autobahn.

I'd have to agree with you on most of this post, but how you can compare it to Copetown is absurd. Copetown is nice, no doubt, but the Heathlands is easily twice the course, with WAY better conditions. You really can't compare apples to oranges. In my opinion, the heathlands is exactly what Copetown aspires to be, and time she may get there. For almost the same dough, I'll stick to my 'Sprey....;)

I really don't think Copetown could be that course...even down the line. I haven't played tons of courses, nor do i want this to turn into what course is better, but this is the nicest course in the area i have played!! Great track, awesome lay-out.
Living in Hamilton, i know for sure that if both courses are priced @ $100, i would be making the 1-1/4 hour drive every weekend over the 15min drive to Copetown. Not saying that Copetown is a slouch, i like the course... but at Osprey i personally felt each hole had something different, whereas at Copetown i find a few holes were too similar for me.
Now as far as the "extras", i think Osprey has something to learn from Copetown, namely putting a half-way house up ASAP

I'd have to agree. Like I said, you can't compare the two. I do enjoy Copetown, but realistically it will never be in the same ballpark as Osprey. Plus you gotta pay some sort of premium to have 54 pristene holes at your disposal in one location. Osprey has always been no - frills.... Just kick @ss golf for golfers. Definitely not a course that gets used by a lot of hackers. Mind you, I definetly hacked it up that day....:(

Don't you have some work to do? Look for the post regarding the 3rd annual Fall Classic Oct 20 at Copetown Woods. Barry and I are just working out the last few details.;)
RR
First ... NOT the weekend of the 20th please.
Second ... isnt the fall classic held at Thundering Waters ?
Easily twice the course.
Especially considering theres another 36 awesome holes we could have played if there was enough daylight
Mind you, I definetly hacked it up that day....:(
I gotta agree with Dave on this one. I brought two bottles of water (courtesy of another fine TGN member) and therefore didnt miss the bev cart for one minute.
If you want to waited on hand and foot, Scarborough GC (and others Im sure) is available to you. If you just want great courses to test your game then Osprey is the joint. Ha ha ha, no wonder Dave loves it so much.

To each his own, Heatlands didn't leave me with a "go to back" kinda feeling.
I'm a big Carrick fan, this isn't one of them. Holes 1 - 5 are very boring.

Unfortunately, the course plays much better from it's original routing. 1 - 5 were originally 11 -16. The course makes a little more sense when played this way. You know what they say, opinions are like (bleep), everybodys got one....

Some have bigger ones than others, that's for sure. :D
FTR, I had a good time, but would need to experience the other tracks Osprey has to offer before banging the gavel on this one. I didn't find the Heatlands all that exciting, but might find the other courses even better.
A buddy of mine who's a pro raves about the Toot, so maybe we should give that one a go.

Yes Scotty, the TOOT is a really solid course as well. Conditioned exactly the same as Heathlands ( which is perfect IMHO ) but different enough in layout that you wouldn't think you're still playing the HL.
While we're on the subject of value, do you think Heathlands is a better value than Angus Glen ?

Hands down a better value, I don't find AG all that it's hyped up to be..as for conditions of the Heatlands, greens were extremely furry, but maybe you like them that way. :p
BTW, you missed a GREAT round at HG this morning. Greens were absolutely perfect, which lead to a solid round of 75. Played HP yesterday from "les tips" with a couple other buddies and shot a 78. HP is a "must play" in my books for a CL/non-CL member that hasn't played it yet.
way better than bond head.
Haven't played both yet, but am not crazy about the greens on the South track, like trying to stop a golf ball on a cement sidewalk.

I find the Toot too parkland for me, very nice but I find the Hoot a much better test of golf and better conditioned with more character to the hole's.
The Toot is very nice and challenging because of the elevation but I find it the most boring of the three, just too wide open off the tee's but it has a lot of length because of the elevation.

Some like it Hard  ! Having said that I haven't been to BH in 3 weeks. Something about both courses being full most of this week with company tournaments.

Your recent rash of comments is leading me to believe that you are in need of some "special" attention Charles.
Grab a magazine, and go for a nice long crunch in the library.
