View Full Version : How many clubs do you use?

My bag used to consist of Driver, 3w, 4w, 5w, 3-pw, sandwedge and putter.
With the change in equipment it now consists of, Driver, 3w, driving iron, 3-pw, sw, lw, and putter. I rarely hit the driving iron or the lw. There just never seems to be a need for the driving iron. The exception is a windy day when I want to keep it down. The LW doesn't get used because of a lack of confidence. That becomes a vicious circle because I don't use it so never get comfortable with it. I never find myself wishing for a club that I don't have.
So my question is do you use all the clubs in your bag?
As an aside I played with a guy last week who had 22 clubs in his bag so I'm guessing that he doesn't play them all!

I carry: Driver, 3 Wood, Hybrid 2,4, Irons 5-PW, 52,56, 60 and a putter.

I find the use of clubs changes based on where I play, and how I feel like playing each hole. I find that the 56 rarley gets used, however the bounce on my wedges is all different so for the sand at different courses I really enjoy the difference. I am 25 and I have a 9 handicap. So I rotate between the 56 and the 60 degree. Or i leave the 2 iron out of the bag.

My bag consist of the 10 deg driver, 5-wood, 2-hybrid, 4-PW, SW, GW, LW, and putter. On long courses, I replace the 5-wood with the 3-wood or insert the 3-wood and remove the GW. If it's windy, I'll replace the 5-wood with the 3-wood and replace the 10 deg with a 9 deg Cobra X-speed which I hit very low.

Driver
3 metal
4 rescue
4-PW
AW
SW
LW
Putter
= 14 clubs.

I'd carry 15 or 16 if the rules allowed but I always make sure it's 14 max'.

I just bought a Danger Golf 7W (because I had gift certificate for the Pro Shop from a recent tournament). This might replace the LW or Driver... not sure tho'...

I carry: Driver, 3 Wood, Hybrid 2,4, Irons 5-PW, 52,56, 60 and a putter.

Same setup for me. Just about to pull the trigger on a 3w as I've never really played one, went from driver to 2-hybrid. So dropped the 4i and am picking a 3w.

In practice i carry 16 clubs ( take my long irons along )...simply because its practice so i can.

In a round i obviously have to cut 2 clubs and thats usually the long irons but sometimes i keep a long iron in and drop my hybrid.

It has been known on 1 of the courses i play to drop my driver as the longest holes on the course are in the 480's and downhill so they are reachable without the driver if the conditions are dry.

Whatever 14 i take to the course i usually end up using most if not all of them.

I once played a regulation course with 8 iron and putter. I shot 86 that day which is slightly better than my handicap.

I learned a lesson that day and removed three clubs from my bag. I am now playing with 10 clubs - driver, 18* and 22* hybrid, 5-PW, SW. I bought a Sunday bag and I'm carrying and walking on every round. No problems walking Blue Springs, Bigwin, etc.

edit: forgot about my putter, make that eleven clubs.

I have 15 - putter, driver, 3/5/7 & 9-woods, 4-PW, GW & the Alien. I substitute between the 9-wood and 4-iron depending on wind conditions.

It sometimes depends on the course.. if it is a little shorter I will pull out one of the hybrids and the 3W, but if it is a longer course or a course I have not yet played I will usually use 14

Driver, 3W, 2H,3H, 4-P, 52*, 58*+ putter... The 73* is still in the figuring out stage. I am also tempted to just figure out which Hybrid is more consistant and just keep one in the bag.

Last year I played mostly with 12 clubs. This year I'm playing a full 14.
It took a while to find clubs that fit in where I needed them.

If anyone cares what I'm bagging.

11.5* driver
13* fairway wood
16* rescue
20* rescue
20.5* 3 iron
26* 4 iron
30.5* 6 iron
7 - pw (48*)
52 gw
58 lw

I have 14 in the bag and few that I rotate in depending on the conditions and the course.

My usual set up is driver, 3w, 3hybrid, 4-pw, gw, sw, lw, and putter. I have taken the sw out in favour of a 5 wood, but my current sw is a money club, especially at 100 yards and in.

Driver, 3W, 4Hybrid, 6 irons (5,6,7,8,9,PW), 3 wedges and a putter = 13 clubs.
I rarely at all use my 60 degree Lob wedge so on a normal day I would use about 12 clubs in all.

i've played a course with a seven iron (even out of the bunkers). fantastic to do if you have the time an inclination. i'm down to 5 - LW and a driver. scoring way better and my ego is fine.
