bought some used balls and they are not as bright and white as new balls of course. Is there any way to clean them and bring back that new white shine?

try soaking them in a diluted bleach solution. I've never tried it but I'm curious if it works or not. Bleach seems to work on everything else.

You will only lose them anyway, why bother? :D

I thought of that. Wasn't sure if it would wreck them or not.

They are used pro v1s. I figure the least I could do was make them a little easier for my good friends here at TGN to find them on Sunday.:D

To get the balls pearly white, try brushing 3 times a day with Colgate.

Yes that worked okay but I had a hell of a time flossing in between the dimples.

I wouldn't mess with them.

Boo to you for putting an end to the fun.

If you have a hard time bringing them to the whiteness you want, you can always pass them to me. I'll try to beat it out of them. :D

Thanks for the info. I just noticed while playing with someone else that mine were just a bit harder to see in the fairway and the other balls had a bit more shine to them.

Personally, I hate playing with a dirty ball, especially after my caddying gig this summer. Maybe you could apply some white-out? If not, maybe that white running shoe polish? :p

I would be interested to know if and when you figure this out... it's always so nice when you pop open a new sleeve of balls and tee off with a super bright white ball! How about the dishwasher? with jetdry for the shine? :D

Colgate Whitestrips overnight should do the trick.

This is bang on...
Urathene tend to change color as soon as it is exposed to sun light and air.
Buying yellowish used balls is a sign that you are getting quality...Don't fight it.....

Titleist and a couple other manufacturers have an additive in the ball that turns off-white when exposed to too much moisture. Once it turns off-white, you can't get it back to bright white.

I bought some Pro V1s today that were as shiny as new balls. They were rifinished. Has anyone ever heard of this? Does having the ball refinished affect it in anyway?

Balls that have been refinished are typically the lower grade balls in terms of conditioning - usually the ones recovered from ponds. The reason they are refinished is because they look too bad to sell as used. You will probably notice a difference in performance vs the regular used balls in mint or AAA condition.

You were right el-tigre. These nice shiny looking refinished Pro V1s suck. They hit about 10 or 15 yards shorter and don't feel near as nice as the grey dull looking ones I bought from GT. The worst part is I paid about $5 more a dozen for the shiny ones.
Went out for a twilight round tonight to compare them.

I solved the problem by buying 13 dozen Pro V1x off eBay, new in the box ... real cheap
I probably paid a few dollars more than refinished, and they hit longer
No they were not for me, I don't have the swingspeed to make them work
Good to know the refinished ones are real short on distance.
