So did anyone take in any film festival flicks over the last few days?

See any cool stars? Sell a script?

We saw two movies, the first was a Spanish movie called "The King of the Hill" - very interesting in a sniper meets blair witch project kind of thing - neat twist at the end.

The second was called Rails and Ties with Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden, directed by Alison Eastwood (daughter of "the man") - really good character driven performance piece. It was a Visa Screening Room presentation so it was at the Elgin and all the cast and director was on-hand to introduce the movie and took questions after. Pretty cool. Kevin Bacon sat 1 row behind us - my wife was very excited!.

My wife works for VISA and every year we get a pair of tickets to a screening. This year we went to see The valley of Elah. It's about the dark side of Iraq and how it's affecting the troops. Got a lot of big names in it. I was really hoping Charlize Theron would come but she was a no show.:(

Heard there weren't that many great ('independent/small') movies....
....and I'm not hearing any/much buzz about Fall Movies, so that makes sense!! :(

that's a pretty difficult thing to gauge - perhaps what was meant that the "larger" films overshadowed the small. The fact of the matter was that there were a ton of fantastic "big" movies - which irks the smaller independant movie fans.

I personally don't side with either camp - it's just nice to see really good films that make you think - big or small. It's nice to have a rest from the "transformers" style summer popcorn silly movies and their ilk.
