Today the GAO Handicap System migrated to the RCGA Network. I was quite pleased with the performance of the GAO system. Has anyone had any experience with the RCGA system? Is it user friendly? Are the value added features useful? Is it efficient? Glitches? etc

definitely glitches...my wife's scores are missing...only 9 scores in the past four years ...

as for the graphic design, quite messy...they have more information, but the concept of "less is more" has been lost.

worst thing is...WE'RE PAYING FOR THIS JUMBLED MESS!

definitely designed by a techie with no input from non technical people on UI

As I am part of the QGA (eastern Ontario is part of the QGA rather than GAO), we have been using the RCGA Network site all year.

It works pretty well. There were some glitches early on when you used browsers other than IE, but for the most part they have been solved. The site is a bit slow in loading though.

You have to enter gaoXXXXXXX (your member number).

Hate the new interface...old GAO was much better.

That I did but it still only shows the men's choices and not the women's.

I just posted my score for the first time. I thought it was a better screen than the old system.

Safari isn't playing nice...Firefox works better

still, cannot look up names on the RCGA site...a common last name like "chan" only had 5-6 people.

maybe I'm using it wrong but first impressions are NOT good...someone really should consult with them on UI

For those having problems: USE INTERNET EXPLORER.

The site works perfectly for me with IE, but balks at Firefox and Safari from time to time.

hence my complaints...Macs uses Safari and Firefox.....I have to launch Windows (parallels) to use IE.

another quirk I found with the RCGA system is full control on adding and deleting scores. The older GAO on line system required all errors to be corrected at the home club by the club pro's.

Thats interesting. I guess in case you made a mistake?
I'm not happy with it, and can still post scores on the old system.
Also I cant find all players, some are search able and some are not.

forgot about that quirk....cannot find people unless they checked off the box in their profile for public access. Although you have full access to your home club roster

I surf with Safari. I tried to post my 9 hole score from playing Emerald Hills (not my home course) and the system just wouldn't cooperate. Would using my stupid windoze IE help?

I spoke to the GAO. They are doing this now so we can provide Feedback so its improved for next year.

I have to say its a real busy website.

Tonight I noticed my wifes scores ae missing 3 months worth of entries!

The search functions for looking up other members is very weak, and unpredicatable.

finally figured out the search...do not type in the province since most GAO members have not updated their profile

although, I don't see the button in "edit profile" area to add the province to my profile.

that my friends is not the way to launch something... beta testing should be with a controlled group

What are you talking about? They're using the obviously successful Microsoft model. Release it, let the end user debug and do the QA, release patches to fix.

Does IE for mac not work properly (for those using macs)?

There is no such thing as IE for Mac anymore.

Even with using a PC I don't like the website.....

I do have to admit, it's working better already...someone is "listening"

Ditto. I was able to finally post an away 9 hole score from days ago. BTW di you guys notice that you are assigned another ID number from RCGA, different then GAO? Also when you log in on RCGA, they tell you to put GAO in front of your GAO number. The instruction has "GAO" in caps but you can only log in if you go "gao######", ie.gao in small letters? Go figure!

To anyone who is having trouble with the new platform, please give me a call...I'd be happy to help you login, post scores, verify other people's Factors, etc. Indeed, Internet Explorer is the preferred browser, for now anyways. Regarding the previous post, the Username is not case specific...it does not matter if GAO is caps or not.

The transition has been a difficult one for GAO users to get used to, but I'm confident it will become a valuable and reliable service to GAO members. Most comments I have read on these threads are a reflection of the user not yet being familiar with how the program works (looking up other people's Factor and Scoring Record, posting scores from courses other than your Home Course, etc, etc.)

Yes, the speed of the system is certainly slower than the OGIN platform, but the developers of the program have made it clear that they will continue to work to make it as fast as possible.

Matt thanks for joining TGN and giving us some help. My comment above stands. I just tried. IT MADE A DIFFERENCE HAVING "gao" as small letters before ogn id#. When the user failed the log in at the original site, it brings it to this
http://www.rcganetwork.org/Default.aspx?st=1
I find that even if all your passwords are correct, it won't log in. You have to go back to the original log in screen thru the OGN link.

Also on some of my posted scores, the name of the golf club where the round was recorded was missing.

I'm not impressed with the new system so far. 8 scores (a few of them counting) out my last 20 don't have the course name against them.

Apart from the lack of speed, I preferred the old method where you saw the handicap calculation on screen. I suppose it will just take time...

Big Bertha...I have confirmed with the developers of the program that the Username is absolutely not case sensitive...the Password is, but not the username. I tested my own login and was able to login using either gao or GAO. If you're having login troubles just give me a call and I'll confirm exactly what your username and password is.

FYI..if the name of the course doesn't display on your scoring record it means that the score was posted as a generic Away score (no course name indicated) in the old system.

Also, I agree that it was nice to see exactly how your Factor was being calculated, and that feature will eventually be added. In general, the winter months will be used to tweak the program in response to user feedback.
