So we are in a tourney yesterday at Glenway and the 3rd hole we get to is a closest to the pin. One of my team mates puts it to within 3 feet and we mark it with the supplied metal holder. We finish the tourney and decide to keep playing for a bit. We get to that par 3 and see that the marker has been moved. Curiously we hit up and see that it is now 3 times farther away from the pin with some other knuckleheads name on it. I never thought that I would see people so low as to pull a stunt like that. I will in the future if ever getting a closest to, mark the measurement and recheck at the end of the tourney to see just what does go on. We told the organizers and the right thing was done, but how many times have YOU had your name on one of those only to find that you never won and wondered why?

I guess there is just no honour. These tournament prizes mean more to people than their integrity just shows how worthless and pathetic thier lives are.

That is why the best idea I ever saw was that you played in 8's..... Both teams play each hole together and thus they police scores and other contests.... Add to that you meet 4 other people and it is fun....
I havenever seen/heard it that blatant, but putting it closer then you actually were or if someone is within a foot, they may decide they were closer....

I played a lot of these outings socially and I have NEVER put my name on any of these even if I am 6 inches from the hole. The only time I did was when they have a "Beat the Pro" and I won a golf bag. Otherwise, a trophy is a trophy. Sometimes, the foursome who did this is so loaded, they have no idea what they did.

No integrity at all or just as trunkslammer put it, too drunk to judge distance.

"why o' why?"?
'cuz there are all types of peeps in this world.
hence there are all types of peeps who play golf.
also explains the tasteless move by some other golf players at a charity tourney who cleared off all the left over prizes from the prize table .. figurin' they were 'freebies' after everyone had picked.
We finish the tourney and decide to keep playing for a bit. We get to that par 3 ? ...wow! thAT'S ALLOTA EXTRA GOlf! to circle back to the closest to the pin-hole!:)

That hole was the 3rd we hit while playing. We didn't go looking intentionaly.

I always look at playing extra holes..... These tourny's are long enough, then they add a 90 minute cocktail reception and I want to eat and go..... So I do end up playing an extra 5-9 holes invariably.
Trunkslammer1..... You must be the only one playing in Tourney's with Trophies.... I actually said that should be the winning team's prizes or for longest drive and got a fair bit of backlash.... You my man are going to the wrong tourneys if all you get for closest is a trophy.;) I did that once and got a trophy/wood carving that accidentally said Closest Woman...

Maybe somebody was putting and the pin was in the way and they moved it and forgot to replace it at the right place. The poor guy comes behind and the pin is like 15 feet and he is 12 feet. He puts his name on it innocently...
You have no clue what happen... I can't believe somebody would do that. What does his friend would think of him... I will give him the benefit of the doubt...
And for sure we have to have a comment about they had to be drunk...

Most of these are for trophys. You are right because I have been to many that attracted "ringers". Cash calcutta used to be very popular in the 70's and 80's and you should see how many ranked amateurs are there. Now all the events I go to, the main prizes are strictly by Raffle. I play in Invitationals now and the Best one is the one organised by Dundas Valley - Senior 2 Men. Prizes were for Gross and Net and they range from cases of wine, bicycles etc. Good Food, Good Company and great golf. What more can a golfer want:D Other ones you get Pro shop Vouchers. I try and stay away from charity events unless I am asked to play as a part of a "stacked team":D

One I was recently at, coincidentally the last group won it with a guy named "Dan Dickhead" winning the prize.
What a crock.

what did happend to me once was that i was following a group playing a comp.
the guy in front of me hit an excellent shot to approx 5 or 6 feet from the pin.
i hit my shot and hit the actual flag ( not the flagstick ) and dropped down about 18 inches from the hole ( the closest i have ever been to an ace )
They were waiting near the green to go to the next tee ( play was a little slow with the comp being played :( )
I could hear the guy swearing and cursing his luck that i had beaten him to the prize they were playing for ( dunno what it was )
Sadly i wasnt in the comp...the guy was so happy shaking my hand and telling me what a great shot i had hit when he had just been calling me names :D
I didnt tell him that i had heard what he said when he thought i had beaten him ;)
