A friend recently mentioned this golf society and suggested I should look at joining. Can't find any information on it. Anyone know of it.

NearAce has provided you with the URL and the correct spelling of Shivas! The website does a pretty good job of explaining the society but let me add my two cents worth.
The Society was founded in Carmel, California approximately 15 years ago by Steve Cohen and he chose to name it after Shivas Irons, the fictional golf pro from County Fyfe in Scotland and the subject of Michael Murphy's wonderful book, "Golf in the Kingdom". The Society is meant for golfers who appreciate and value the traditions and history of the game of golf and who are open to stretching the limits of their own character. Therefore, it would only tend to be of interest to certain small percentage of golfers.
The Society holds golf events for members throughout North America throughout the year. For example, there is an annual event at both Whistling Straits and Bandon Dunes! The Canadian section just got going a few years ago and is in the early stages of building. We have had two events so far, one at Bond Head and another just a few weeks ago at Coppinwood. We're already planning for next year's event to return to Coppinwood and the Society has experienced an increase in membership in anticipation of a chance to play Coppinwood. By the way, the cost of memership is quite nominal at around $100.
In addition to the North American events, there are usually one or two overseas trips to Ireland and Scotland each year as well as access to those hard to get tickets to major tournaments (members were able to access tickets to the final day of The Masters this past spring!).
For those members who travel quite a lot, you can access the membership list for any city you will be visiting and an email to one of the members in the area will almost assuredly give you access to a local prestigious club and more than likely a personal invitation from the member himself (herself!!). That last correction is important because I realized I'm making this sound like a male society when it most definately is not!
Anyway, that's my view of Shivas Irons. I've enjoyed meeting and making some wonderful new friends throughout Canada and the US and would encourage all golfers who believe in the ideals of the Society to come and join us...!
If anyone has any question, please send me a PM.

I am indebted for the information from members. I have been in touch with the society office in California and am now a member. Not only that, I will be attending my first Shivas Irons event at Whistling Straits in two weeks. I'm sure I'll see some of you there!

Welcome aboard! You will really enjoy this group and the events they host. I'm not going to Whistling Straits but will be at a number next year, including the Canadian event, which will likley be back at Coppinwood. Check you PMs for a message!
