I hate to be the *** that starts this thread, but it was bound to happen. I want to say the Sens squash the Leafs in both games by 6, but what I really think will happen is the teams split the opening games with each team taking a win on the road.

Tonight 5-1 Sens
Tomorrow 3-2 Leafs

I still think these two teams meet in round one of the playoffs.

Here's another bet:

Raysoft let's in 4 goals in the first period.....and we lost by more than 6.

Sorry, I'm a Leafs fan, but I'm not at all impressed with the moves in the off-season nor do I like our chances any better than I did last year.

Not a huge fan of the Leafs, I have other teams I like.

Leafs will once again miss the playoffs, but it's ok because management is still selling out seats and the owners don't really care how well the Leafs do.

Laughs win both games and then get pasted for the rest of the season.

I'm going with you, although the leafs do have a chance since Gerber is playing with Emery still injured. So both teams are starting their OVERpriced back-ups, and for some reason Toronto is doing it by choice!!

I think 1 of the 2 games will be close (flip a coin as to who will win) and the other will be a blowout. (I bleed blue but I doubt the Leafs will make the playoffs).

I was at the game against Detroit and at times it was painful to watch. The first shot when by Raycroft, the defence was questionable at the best of times and the Leafs can't stay out of the penalty box.

Until the Leafs learn how to stay out of the penalty box and find a proven goal scorer (fingers crossed for Blake) we Leaf fans will be cheering for another team when the playoffs start.

As was mentioned earlier, the Leafs make way too much money for management to care how they do. I'm hoping to see a Stanley Cup in Toronto before I am 6 feet under......37 years so far and I'm still waiting!!!

Only Leafs fans and some insecured Sens fans will care about this. This is like me beating up some first-graders to show what a tough guy I am.

The real divisional rivals for Sens this season are the Rangers, Devils, and Sabres.

That eveek site I posted has some awesome themes for BB's too man....check it out. You can download them OTR, or just save them as a .zip and them import them through your Desktop Manager.

And now back to our regular scheduled Leafs/Sens bashing thread. :D

I think the Sens will take both games easily. Especially since Spezza/Heatley and Alfie are reunited.

Listening to Sportsnet's Hockey at Noon broadcast and they're reporting that Raycroft is starting tonight. They bring in Toskala and pay him huge dollars ($8 million?) and he's not starting? What kind of message does that send to Toskala? "You're almost ready to start, maybe on the weekend"

Or even what does that tell Raycroft? "You're almost good enough to be our #1 guy with 37 wins last season but we kinda like this other guy better, but he had a poor preseason so you're #1 on opening night"

Worst thing about the whole Raycroft/Toskola topic is listening to Kypreos, he's gotta be the worst homer in broadcasting.

i somewhat agree that the Sens real Conference rivals are the above mentioned teams, although i dont think it will be the Devils in there, but instead the Penguins.

I really think it comes down to Pens/Sens for the Conference title, i just think the Rangers defence is not strong enough, and they really don't have any cap space to work with.. I think Lundqivst would have to have a Vezina/Hart trophy year to carry them to the Conference champs.

I have a feeling the Leafs will take a 3 to 1 lead in to the third. Ottawa will then score two goals 35 seconds apart to tie it with 5 minutes left in the game. The Sens then winning in the shoot out 3-0.

That way we can see the major shortcomings of the Leafs team of the past 2 years no matter what personnel changes were made.

I have tickets for tonights game. However....I gave them to the kids. I have little interest in battling 19 000 people to over pay for food and drinks just to sit in section 323. Let the kids go, I'll have a nice quiet evening with the wife. I've got some sucking up to do after making her a golf widow this summer.

I must say....I have the best wife possible. Not only does she NOT hassle me for coming home every night between 8-9 because I'm either at the gym or at the range, she then tells me to play every weekend too. Then when I get home she makes me dinner!!

It doens't get much better than that....well actually it does, but those comments are for another type of chat room!!

man i really hope so! It would be nice to at least get this one done before the season starts. I really think that they might be able to sign Spezza shortly after Heatley. I have read that Heatley wants around 8million over about 6+ years. With Thorton getting 7.2, Iggy at 7.0 and Datsyuk getting 6.7, i would think a guy who has back-to-back 50 goal seasons should be at least at 7.3+.

I think he will get about 8m average over 5-6 years.

BTW, my prediction is 5-2 Sens tonight.

Great game tonite, obviously added by winning, but i thought this was a good game, super high intensity for the first game of the season.

I really saw 1 thing for each team, Redden was targeted by the Leafs, and Tucker seemed to be targeted by Ottawa. Goating Redden into two fights was beauty, and it seemed almost anytime Tucker had the puck, he was hit hard.

That might have been the most entertaining season opener I've ever seen. Ottawa's passing got a little sloppy at times, but they held it together to squeak one out.

I think Newberry went looking for Redden, but Redden started the other one. People forget that Redden KO's big George Laraque a few years ago. Unfortunately he broke his hand in that fight, but he knocked him out. It's nice to see him showing something after last season. I was hoping Fisher would have a little chat with McCabe or Tucker, but it didn't happen...maybe tomorrow. McGrattan looked a little sour on the bench.

Heatley locked up for 7.5 mill per for 6 years is a stroke of genius.

Yup, now if we could just get rid of Raysoft, we'd be uch better off.

Leafs had the game and Ottawa should never have won....they didn't look all the good to me last night.

If I signed a $45M deal, I think I'd score a few goals just because I was happy.

yup, the leafs outplayed them for the first two periods, and it seemed that the Sens found their legs in the 3rd, i think they outshot them 11-4 in the 3rd. Raycroft is.... raycroft! He's gonna play Giggy/Turco level hockey for 85% of the game, then for that 15% he's gonna play like Lalime did in the playoffs. Why you start a back-up in game 1 is beyond me...

Good to see the good guys pull it out with all that time spent in the box last night!

Last night was about as good as the Leafs can play. Blake will make them a better team, but their lack of talent beyond the first line, even when Wellwood comes back will mean over the long haul they will lose more of those games than they will win. They'll be competitive against the lower teams and may win more of those games than they lose, but in another 80 games I think we'll be looking at a bottom half team who may get a round in the playoffs. However against the top teams like Ottawa, Pittsburg, Rangers and even Buffalo they will struggle because they don't have enought talent and they no longer have goal tending like Joesph and even Belfour (in his second last year) who will steal 10 games a year for you.

Bottom line....another average team in Toronto this year. Yawn....

I hate to say it, but that's the difference between a team like Ottawa and a team like Toronto. The Sens have the ability to stay in a game where they're getting outplayed, and then have guys like Heatley or Spezza who will finish if given the chance. There's a reason why Heatley signed a monster deal yesterday. The Leafs left him wide open twice and those mistakes killed them.
