A bunch of us watched a few of the weekend matches to get a feel for the teams. We were impressed with the way our guy LSU David Toms played throughout the event. We wondered what the response would be to Tiger's Sunday match with Weir. It was a great match for Canadian golf fans.
We all have heard of the gesture of spotsmanship Jack Nicklaus displayed to Tony Jacklin during a Ryder Cup match in early 70's. Jack had the presence of mind to not place Jacklin in a spot of missing a putt that may "define" his legacy. Good move Jack! It really isn't who wins, it is the sport of competition.
Here we are, 35 years later, in a similar point in time & Tiger has Mike "make" his putt on 17 to level the match. If I get the essesnce of the moment, was that not the point to concede the putt to Mike. Tiger "tried" to make his putt on 17. Missed it & put Mike in the same spot as Jacklin. Maybe Tiger did not realize USA had captured the Cup or he is a jerk?

That is one of the things that makes Tiger so good. He never gives an inch. in the end Mike is better of having truly beaten Tiger. There will be no asterik beside the win.

Jacklin's putt was about a two-footer, maybe a little more. Weir had about an eight- or nine-foot putt -- you don't concede that. In that situation, Weir and likely the gallery would have felt insulted that Woods was just giving the hole to him. It wouldn't have come across as good sportsmanship -- it would have come across as Tiger saying "I don't give a damn about this match."

Tiger conceded a two-putt on 18, which was the appropriate time for a concession.

I really think this is the sign of the Apocalypse when the Americans questioned the character of Tiger while some Canadians trivialized Weir's win.

Tomorrow, Israel is going to attack the West and Bin Laden is going to come to the aid of America and win the Nobel Peace prize.

And 8 months from now, the Leafs will win the Stanley Cup.

The world is going to hell in a handbasket.....
