TORONTO:
The Toronto Maple Leafs wanted no part of what they went through last night in their embarrassing 4-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators in over-time. After seeing Matts Sundin lose 2 litres of water in the 3rd period and D'Arcy Tucker tripping over his own feet for the entire game, the Maple Leafs made sure to lock up 15 year NHL water boy veteran Maurice De L'Eau, brother of full time water boy for the Senators Jacques De L'Eau, in what hockey fans are calling a "must-have" for the Maple Leafs. With a deadline of noon EST Oct 4th, Maurice De L'Eau and his camp were able to come to terms on a US $16-million, sixteen-year contract extension with Maple Leafs around 10:30 a.m. ET Thursday.
"We're very pleased with that." The GM wasn't concerned with the length of the deal.
"Maurice De L'Eau is 66 years of age, and I suspect he'll probably be here when he's 97 or 98,"
"Maurice De L'Eau has been a successful water boy with every team he's been with," said Ferguson. He's a real responsible guy, never let's them drink it cold as it can cramp them up and is always on top of the bottles, making sure they are ready for the boys coming off the next shift.
