Hi,
I was at the driving range yesterday (man getting cool) and I have been noticing that I seem to be impacting the ball on my mid irons in front lower toe area. My short irons do not seem to do this, My long irons are not as bad. just around my 7i, 8i, and sometimes my 9i. These three seem very constant in the impact zone, it has gone so far is that I line up these three irons at the Hazel (sp). Any Ideas?

I had a similar problem. I kept hitting near the toe. My fitter bent the lies up 1* and I was hitting more centre shots. I don't know if this was just a fix for bad swing mechanics.

I did have my clubs fitted a few months ago. Maybe a trip back to Navada Bobs for a second adjustment?

I know it sounds obvious but have you tried standing a bit closer to the ball? Perhaps with the shorter irons you feel the need to stand farther away from the ball?

He's addressing them at the hosel. I would think he's standing pretty close. Maybe he's pulling up as he swings through. My sister addresses right up to the hosel and hits it center because she pulls up when she swings. But she does it for all clubs.

Well I have been trying to work on my swing path. I have read several books and watched several DVD's on what the club head position should be at what point in the back swing. My swing is more of a putter draw back I do not hing my wrists at 90* and then pull back. It is more of a straight upright (with irons). I find if I try and do the new 3 piece swing I slice something bad. My thought that I have a natural out to in swing (explains my slice) that I am pulling with my left arm through the impact zone???? This may result in a toe impact. I seem to toe impact allot with most of my clubs. If this is the case (besides a lesson, which I am taking at my local club) how can I fix this at home? Medicus Driver???

I think the lessons is the best bet. If your current instructor fails to find the cause of this problem or addresses it then find another instructor. By your descriptions it sounds like you may have swing problems.

Out-to-in or over-the-top is the culprit.
Is your wrist flat or cupped at the top?

The good news is that not consistently hitting the sweet spot means you will be getting less wear on your club faces :p .
Seriously though..........swing changes take time...your "old swing" is grooved and you subconciously return to it while your playing as it feels more comfortable.
If you watched VJ Singh towards the end of the season he was hitting some real awful golf shots because he is altering his swing.
I think its well recorded that VJ probably practices more than ANY other golfer on the planet so if it is taking him some time to re-model his swing then how long does it take 1 of us guys?
Good Luck with your changes and keep the faith :D

That is interesting, my wrists appear to be my big issue. I find when I break my left wrist I slice something bad. So I have been working very hard in the last month or so to keep it straight (Flat). However, when i keep it straight I loose a ton of power, and I can not get a full rotation back.

Have a look at what your hands are doing at the top of the swing. I thought I was breaking my wrists when infact at the top of the swing my club was wide open. Thanks to a couple of observant guys on Saturday morning they identified what I was doing. I was so open that it was next to impossible to bring the club back square.

What do you mean by break? Wrist positions are usually classified by cocked or un-cocked & bent (cupped) or arched. The wrist can cock and un-cock without bending.
Also, bad things usually occur when we try to "hold" a position, or "keep" an alignment. Easier to pass through a position than to hold one, if you get my drift.
The wrist should and will remain flat if it doesn't have to compensate for an open clubface. The power will come my friend.

Ok,
Maybe I did not describe my left wrist correctly. At the top of my back swing if I bring the club in to wards my head, that means my inside left wrist cocks to wards my head. If I do that I leave a open face on the down swing and (I think) my club head gets behind my hands and with the open face it puts a right hand spin on the ball.

What you are doing I think is exactly what I am struggling with now. I'll be seeing my instructor on Friday to help me work on this.

Here is cupped vs. flat:

Notice Tigers flat wrist opposed to the first pic.
Here's another good pic of wrist conditions, easier to square the club if you look like the top one:

Hi,
Thanks for the pictures.... Ok so now you might be telling me than not only am I twisting my wrist right or left, but now I might be cupping it. Hmmm I can only assume that both are responsible for slicing?

I honestly can't say what you're doing, I offered the pics for you to compare on video or with a mirror.
Work on flattening the left wrist and it should improve your path problems.
