My buddies wedding is next week and his future wife is looking for a song to play for the wedding party dance. I don't know if this is common but these people don't even know each other so a love song or something to romantic doesn't really work.

I have never really been to wedding reception as an adult so I don't even know what goes on there and my tastes in music leads me slightly away from this type of song. Anything slow from any era or genre I could suggest?

Thanks.

i used to waitress at wedding receptions...so i heard many many songs..

unfortunately i don't know most of the song titles...

i know they usually play 80s and early 90s songs..
like Red Red Wine, At Last, YMCA, Macorina, Cha Cha Slide, Footlose..and a lot of others that i can think of in my head..just don't know the lyrics....If i hear it, I'll know immediately...

weddings do play quite a few love songs tho..but not as much as other more up beat songs....the slow songs are pretty easy to choose...all the 80s/90s classic love songs are good..

just do a quick google search...quite a bit of wedding music sites out there

what i can tell you is that ...of all the weddings i've seen, they only play very few selected songs that are current/recent (stay away from pop groups)......even when the wedding party are pretty young...

They don't know each other? Is this a good idea? Please refer to my signature for more insight...

I hope that didn't sound like the bride and groom don't know each other. The people in the wedding party don't know each other. This is the type of bride that if she wants the groomsmen to dance with the bridesmaids it will happen even if it sounds dumb. It might also be a tradition thing casue she is from far up north in the sticks which is where the wedding is.

It might also be a tradition thing casue she is from far up north in the sticks which is where the wedding is. The bride and groom pick their own song (usually a slow, romantic love song) based on what they like, regardless of the tastes of the rest of the wedding party. It is only one song and it should be something special to them - everyone else has the rest of the night to dance to whatever they like.

FWIW at my wedding many, many years ago we danced to a rather obscure Jethro Tull tune that I'm sure nobody but my wife and I had ever heard before - and yes, the groomsmen danced the first dance with the bridesmaids.

When I got married, I made up my own list of about 75 songs for the DJ to play.......I'll try and see if I still have that list.

  Hammer,
Are you looking for a song for your first dance or just wedding songs for the entire night?

I need a song where only the bride and groom and the brides maids and grooms men will be dancing. This would happen right after the first song for the bride and groom. Like I said I don't know if its common but thats what she wants. BUt she doesn't want them to dance to a flat out love song.

By the way laxgolf I love 18 and life. Its on my playlist right now.
