View Full Version : Hitting Mid Irons to the Right of Target

Yes, I was inspired by the thread about short irons going to the left of the target.
My problem is the exact opposite.
On the range, like most others, my irons are straight at the stick.
Not infrequently once I am on the course, I will leave my iron shot (typically a 5-7 iron) out to the right.
Curiously, this tends to happen most when I am hitting on a par 3. When I am hitting the same club from the fairway, this problem arises infrequntly.
Any thoughts (other than not teeing it up on a par 3)?

I have a similar problem but mine is caused by slowing down my swingspeed but not my body turn on mid distance shots. My hips turn too soon for a slower swingspeed and the ball ends up striking closer to the toe than is optimal. It's one of those things I have to consciously work on to get around. That likely doesn't help you any to hear it, but I feel better getting it off my chest. :D

I had the same problem. It seems to be working it's way out now. I would hit much better on the range. But when I get to the course it would go very bad. It eventually got to where it was very bad even on the driving range. I attribute it to slowly getting lazy with my whole setup. As soon as I concentrated on a proper grip, posture and take away on the back swing things improved 100%. After a couple of sessions on the range concentrating on my setup I had my first round yesterday and it was a big difference. It was the first round I have enjoyed in a long time. Other than the fact that I seemed to have injured my wrist near the end of the round.
