Now I know this is not a GTA course but I am sure feedback is always a good thing for golfers.

A week ago a friend had some passes at Grand Niagara so we decided to head down and check it out. There were some great things, good things, and bad things about the experience.

Start with the bad: Walked into the proshop and the attendant on duty was more concerned about his checking his email then helping me out. I usually like to get a shirt or a ball or something of a keepsake at every course I play. I wandered around the shop for about 15 mins (and if you have been there the shop is not big so it is not like he didnt see me), without as much of a hello. It was like I was invisible. Finally I went up to the counter and stood directly in front of him. Still no response, finally I had to initiate the interaction which I did not feel was the proper way to be treated.

The great: Thank god their marshall starter greeter whatever he was, was out there as he was amazing. gave us balls for the range got our clubs on the carts and gave us some tips and pointers after the range as we headed over to the tee. He definately exceeded expectations after the proshop experience.

The good: Course was in great shape and played well. Greens held, bunkers were good, pace was good.

My only complaint was that the course lacked that wow factor. I walked off the 18th green after a so so round and noticed my score was a lot better then it should have been (for that I am thankful). I couldnt think of one hole that just made me say I have to come back. I will go back if i get some passes but after the proshop experience, and then the course being good but not great, I do not see myself back there.

I would love any feedback anyone else has, and even some suggestions of some courses to check out!!

Now that the leaves are on the ground...happy hunting!!

There might not be a wow factor. But with some of the discount rates that they offer, it is still a good day of golf.

I don't understand why people always look for the wow factor, or one hole that blows them away. Shouldn't you look at the course as a whole and define it from there. Sure, there are no "wow" holes at Grand Niagara, but overall, I think it is a very nice course, probably the best in Niagara IMO. I would rather play a course that has 18 good holes and no wow holes rather than play a course with 15 so so holes and 3 wow holes.

I guess this just get under my skin lately due to an experice I just had. I was lucky enough to play Pinehurst #2, and I thought it was one of the greatest courses I've ever played (I've played Pebble, Bethpage, Sawgrass, etc). But alot of people say that they don't find #2 anything special, I even heard marshalls at Pinehurst who say #8 is better than #2. I played both and #2 is hands down the better course/experience.

I agree that GN is probably the best in Niagara but also believe that it is missing something (wow factor). I think it is more a function of the landscape in the area as the surroundings are rather plain when compared to Muskoka where the "wow factor" is present.

Sorry I might have mistated what I means..I agree that I would rather play a course with 18 good holes then one with 15 horrible ones and 3 fantastic ones. But I still feel that GN for all its hype just didnt live up to it. I have played some fantastic courses in my day and maybe I was lil too excited to get out to GN. But I just did not leave with a good taste in my mouth. Maybe it was the proshop service. I dunno, just not too sure if I will ever be back there.

I played there a few weeks ago, the course itself was in fine condition, there was no hole which stood out in my mind but the overall experience was good. I played one of my worst nines in history on the front but made a great comeback on the back nine, however I still tied my highest score of the year.

I like the quality of the sand in the bunkers, I believe that I was in 5 of them that day, the speed of the greens was to my liking, very quick. I enjoyed the course, not sure it is worth approx. $100, personally I would rather play Battlefield or Whirlpool when in that area.
