Just looking for some input if anyone knows of any nice courses in the Dominican repub. Which is better punta cana or puerta plata? Names of courses... I would like to play a round or two and would love any input anyone has!

I played Playa Dorada in DR. Rober Trent Jones Sr design that was straightforward and good. I think it was 60 US plus 20 for the caddy who was also very good. But if I had my choice now I'd go to Teeth of The Dog which is a Dye design and really good and tough, holes right along the ocean.

I was in the DR last week. Stayed at Sun Village Resort & Spa which was also hosting the Dominican International Film Festival at the same time - WOW to both the resort and the festival participants.

Playa Dorada is an OK course with reasonable fees. Caddy charge is $15 plus tip. If you play it, ask for Tommy. He's been my caddy for over 5 years and is simply the best! If you want some cigars, Tommy will take you to a very reputable shop that you would never find on your own. Quality and price are top notch. Down the highway, past Cabarete, is Playa Grande. They don't call it the Pebble Beach of the Caribbean for nothing. The course is in immaculate condition and never crowded. I think it was $105 for the round and there is no caddy fee, just what you decide to tip him. Over half the holes go along the ocean cliffs with their 200' drops. The views are outstanding so don't forget your camera.

By the way, the first picture is of my partner hitting over the ocean on the Par 3 - 14th hole and the second picture is taken from the green at 17 looking back at holes 8 & 9 along the coast. If you go to www.playagrande.com you will see more photos that will give you a great feel for the course. And, yes, the beaches there are really as deserted as they appear in the photos!
