Playing on our Tour at Whistle Bear I hit my tee shot into the long rough. Upon finding my Teitlist 4 staring at me, I proceed to play my next shot, then my next. Then I discovered that I was playing a DT90 (on side of ball) instead of the NXT I started the hole with. Making the 6 i thought I was going to score into a 10 !! Had to go back and find my original and play the right ball.

I had a friend do this on #18 at Mill Run - played his second shot out of the rough - put the third just on the green and was about to putt when he relized it wasn't his ball! My playing partners sent him back to where his tee shot went - he found his ball a mere 3ft from where he hit the wrong ball!
Needless to say he was p***ed! Made a 10 or 12 and he hopped in his car and drove away before we could say goodbye!
He got us back though! - Playing at Lakeridge - my brother-in-law and i were in 1 cart and he and another were in the other cart. We didn't have a scorecard - forgot to grab one (only realized it after putting out on the first hole!) So he said he'd keep score for everyone. Got to #4 - a par five (hazzards left and a fairway #5 i think - running down the right side) well we all tee off and both my bro in law and i pushed our tee shots to the right on top of the hill - we drive up and the guy says - oh thats OB! -SAYS SO RIGHT HERE ON THE SCORECARD! P***ED - we go back tee up and are now three off the tee!:help:
We'll get him back again!

IMHO people need to relax more and enjoy the game more. I would have had more than a few words to say if I was behind a group that sent someone back to find their ball and replay. I'm sure the Marshall would too.

No one behind - thats why we did it - would never do that with someone behind! - Got to keep the pace of play and be fair to everyone else on the course!;)

It's not a dumb rule, as such more like I was dumb. I just can't believe another Teitlist 4 would be in relatively the same spot, what are the odds?

I was called on a bad drop , I had hit my tee ball into the river ,red staked, I took 1 club length from the stake line, with ball in hand at shoulder high , dropped the ball , it jumped backwards 6 " witch in my mind was fine ,I hit my third shot , my playing partner , said that my drop was illegal ,because my hand was not above my shoulder , I ended up with an 8 ,not impressed, oh well, payback was so sweet , 4 times in a row:rofl:

Rule 20-2 Dropping & Re-Dropping
a. By Whom and How
A ball to be dropped under the Rules shall be dropped by the player himself. He shall stand erect, hold the ball at shoulder height and arm's length and drop it. If the ball is dropped in any other manner and the error is not corrected as provided in Rule 20-6, the player shall incur a penalty stroke.
So your drop was fine. Also, if it was not correct you could have re-dropped without penalty before playing your next shot under Rule 20-6, so the fact that he waited until you had played really shows his true character IMHO. And I'm guessing that he told you it was a 2-stroke penalty instead of 1 as well.
BTW, Rule 26-2 allows you to drop within two club-lengths from the margin of a lateral water hazard (i.e., the red stake line), so you were actually entitled to more relief from the hazard than you took.

LMAO - I was there when he was called on it by the other guy! I didn't have a problem with the drop at all - but the other guy was insistent (same guy who held the scorecard at Lakeridge and didn't bother to tell us about an O.B that was only marked on the scorecard)
Anyway - if you saw the look on the count's face when this happened - it looked like he was going to drop the guy in the hazard!:D

el tigre, are you a walking rules book? I'm impressed with your memory!LOL, actually my memory is not that impressive. I've been a referee in broomball for about 20 years, so I have a thing for knowing the rules. In golf you are your own referee, but luckily the Rules of Golf are available for free on the RCGA site.

Sine the topic is dumb rules, try this one on for size.
In a tournament several years ago my fellow competitor was"attending" the flag for me on a long putt. My FC did NOT pull the flag as the ball approached it and my ball hit it. Result? I got penalized two strokes. Unless I can prove that my FC did not pull the flag INTENTIONALLY, in which case he gets disqualified, I have to absorb the penalty. If he was merely distracted, I get the two extra shots.
The rules of golf are admittedly involved and it does take time to get a handle on even the basic procedures. However, learning them is a challenge and part of the fun of playing the game. The most butchered rule, IMO, is how to take relief from an obstruction(cart path) or casual water, as many golfers want to drop the ball where it is most advantageous to them, rather than where it should be dropped.
I also find it interesting that golfers who make up their own rules or suggest to those of us who do play by the rules that we should "lighten" up or that we take the game "too seriously," claim they shot a "75" or have handicap of "4," when in fact did not score 75 and do not have an accurate handicap because they cheat, and sadly think nothing of it. During the time that I have played golf(44 years) the amount of disrespect that golfers have for the rules of the game has increased significantly, and is a sad reflection on SOME of the people who play the game. Perhaps I am just loonie, but I see nothing wrong with dropping the ball from shoulder height, adding 2 strokes if my ball hits my golf cart, and playing a provisional if I think my ball is lost or out of bounds. BTW: As my golf ball has two very large blue circles marked on it, the chances of my playing a wrong ball are almost nil. The reason is that I once played the wrong ball because I was dumb enough not to have identifying marks on the ball, big enough to see. I also wonder how many golfers actually put some sort of identifying mark on their golf balls.

LOL. I did not play with a co-worker for quite awhile because he always spoke of these amazing rounds where he shot like low 90's or 80's and I didn;t want to effect his game play ( I was just starting to play). Needless to say a year later when i played with him I discoverd he never penalized himself for OB shots if he could find his ball :hush: . oyaa and always adjusted his ball to be a nice lay ..cough.. I mean check to ensure the ball was his
I ended beeting him "under" his rules but I still shot like a 96 under the standard rules.

Having played in hundreds of tournaments over the years, it has been my policy that if I see a mistake about to be made, I say something right away. The truth is that most tournament players do the same. If the golfer's ball is teed ahead of the markers, tell him. If he moves his marker on the green and fails to move it back, remind him. If the drop is made incorrectly, tell him.
Having said this, if I do say something and get grief for it, and this has happened, them my friendly reminders stop.
Last fall I played in a 4 ball with two former CPGA pros who were about to take relief from a cart path about 40 yards(literally) from where it should have been taken. I told them where the ball should be dropped and they ignored me. As they were about to drop at the point 40 yards away, I said, "If you drop and play from there and sign an incorrect scorecard, you could be DQ'd." The response was, "We are former CPGA professionals(Read: We know what we are doing so shutup) and I really object to telling us that we are going to be disqualified." I said, "If you are former CPGA pros then you would think that you would know what to do," and walked away. They wisely reconsidered the drop and actually asked me what the proper procedure was.
