My wife told my about this program that starts tomorrow at the Maureen Rae Yoga Studio on Dundas Street, East of the 427. It sounds interesting and it would probably be the only excercise I'll get all year, so what the hell. I called up and you don't have to sign up for the whole deal all at once,,I'm going to the introductory session tomorrow at 3pm. Here's a cut and paste description and I'll add a link below as well.:

Yogalates Fore Golf!!!!

Are you in The Zone? Are you calm and focused? Are you one with your swing?

The body mechanics of the golf swing ask a tremendous amount of the body; repetitive complex movements involving over fifty muscles are executed from a standing static position with explosive force. All this is done in one direction. No wonder golfers suffer from low back, shoulder and neck strain.

Joe teaches a unique blend of Yoga, Pilates and other muscular conditioning disciplines that bring flexibility, strength and focus to your golf game as well as prevent injury.

There’s no quick fix. But, Yoga’s holistic approach, in itself, fosters a mind-body connection that combines strength, flexibility, balance, breathing and concentration for golf performance. Couple this with the core control and strengthening of Pilates and we have a winner.

The course will be broken into an introductory class and two six week segments:

Introductory Class will:
Introduce you to the principles and methodologies to be covered in Segment One and Segment Two.

Segment One will:
Assess your body’s current muscular imbalances.
Use Yoga’s mind/body awareness, breathing principles and postures to attempt to correct muscle imbalances that affect your golf swing.

Segment Two will:
Build on Segment One to continue correcting muscle imbalances.
Meld Yoga, Pilates and muscle conditioning
Introduce pre-game and pre-hole warm-up routines

Be in the moment! Play with a beginner's mind!

For sure yoga and pilates are just about the best thing you can do for your body to improve a swing. Stretching and core strength are likely the two most important parts of having a safe game. The yoga/pilates studio my wife used to go to was owned and run by the daughter of an avid golfer and she had taylored a fitness program for her father to keep him fit for the game. He was an older gent who could still smoke the ball because he could do a full shoulder turn and apply power on the down-swing without pulling a muscle or popping a vessel. There's other benefits too, like better balance, circulation and cardio workout.
