I have played it and it is a very nice course but there is no course in Arizona that is worth more than $200..........the fees jump up in the winter becuase rich tourists will pay them

I play there annually with the locals and they will not pay more than $70 or $80 for any course including the TPC ( which is not that good a course).........most courses can be had for well under $100 and many for $50 or so...you just have to do your work

Poston Butte is another troon course, perhaps not as scenic as Troon North but just as good .....it is 89 and 59 to play

Thanks Weirfan. Poston Butte looks nice indeed. I will book there. Unfortunately we are going at March Break which is high season.

BTW, what do they mean by "Troon" golf? I thought Troon was a course in Scotland?

I played Troon a few years ago. I really liked the course but would not pay $200 for it. Some of the homes on the course are spectacular.

Yup, I played it 2 years ago....$40 each ;), the guys behind us paid $265 each

Nice track, but we preferred The Boulders or We-Ko-Pa!!

Architect Tom Weiskopf, along with his partner Jay Morrish, built both courses at Troon North. Weiskopf's only Major win was The Open at Troon in 1973 so I'm sure he was very influential in naming the course.

Slightly off topic, but I remember playing another Weiskopf course in the Phoenix area (Foothills) and being told when I arrived that the tee times were running over an hour late. Why? "Because Mr. Weiskopt is here today."

In other words, not only did Weiskopf play whenever he felt like it, he also reserved the tee for an hour before he started, so he wouldn't be held up!

Troon North is a great courseand offers incredible desert course type views......seems to me that if you go all the way down to AZ, you might as well try the best and TN is way up there. ALso try Greyhawk and for a real desert course experience We-Ko-Pa. If cost is an issue, but a Southwest pass and get disocunts off a bunch of good courses .....none of the above though.
