sliceisnice, don't worry... those guys are just joking around. :D

As for your experience, I had something similar when I was in IT and on call. I was having a great round of golf only to get a support call. Was on the phone with the person for the next 4 holes and shot like crap. I'm sure he was wondering why every 5 mins or so I would ask him to hold.

Thankfully I'm no longer the closest guy in my dept to the office so I'm like 3rd in line for being contacted... then again, my club has strict no cell-phones on the course rules and my boss is aware of my situation. Luckly I have a nice boss who's also a golfnut.

In the prime golfing season (April-Nov) about twice a month. If I took the day as a vacation day the boss gives me a do over. If I snuck out when no one was looking well then too bad for me.

I know of someone who wanted to book a vacation day to go golfing. His boss told him he couldn't. On the day he wanted off, he called in sick. His boss called him and asked if he could go in for just a couple hours but said he was too ill. Turns out, the boss ran into the guy at the driving range at the same golf course! Told him don't bother coming in the next day... true story.

My secretary tells clients I'm on a course and can't be disturbed. My golfing clients understand and my non golfing clients think I'm the most educated Realtor in Ontario. AAAHHH the joys of self employment!

Whenever I get calls like that I will ask the caller if he or she can come to the 51 Division with bail money.

I was at a conference at Niagara on the Lake last fall. The conference wrapped up on Friday at noon and my wife had come down Thursday afternoon for the Thursday evening dinner event. We were planning to stay until Sunday so she could have some spa time and we could enjoy a mini vacation.

9AM Friday morning my cellphone rings. Its my boss calling regrading a problem in the Edmonton office that has made the CEO twitchy. By 2PM I am on a plane to Edmonton leaving my wife in NOTL.

Fortunately my boss is very good guy and told me to expense my wife's hotel bill for Friday including her spa treatments.
