Checked out the website and noticed that an unrestriced play membership is $3500 but they limit you to 70 rounds per year. Is it normal for a course to restrict the number of rounds a member plays? Never seen that before.

"All memberships will be restricted to a maximum of 70 rounds of golf per annum. Additional rounds may be purchased at a 20% discount from the applicable rate. Power Carts are not included the membership."

...Does seem a bit odd...."Unrestricted" but also "Restricted" :(

I agree its odd and false advertising if they call it unlimited but restrict you to 70 rounds. I think they should call it something else, like full membership, platinum etc... Having said that, its an interesting number of rounds as I'm sure anyone who works will never reach 70 in the season, I play 50 with my CL membership, I guess they don't want the seniors, retirees playing there.

very odd to restrict indeed but I barely reach 70 rounds with my membership and that includes only one or two 36 hole days in the season and mostly weekend play...but if you count all the walk on 4-9 holes I play, I'm sure the number could easily hit 100.

as we've talked about in other threads, the quality of membership is what makes the place, not just the number (price). the larger the membership, the more active the events are.

It's basically the twilight and earlybird fees times with a 10% discount x 70 but that is just a quick ballpark calculation.

Looks cheesy to me but maybe they don't want to see the same face thier day in and day out.

I just sent them an email and asked them what they were smoking.

It's the same thing at The Launch. Your membership entitles you to 1 hour a day. Thats it. I wanted to get a membershiped and tried for a 3-4 times a week and 1 to 2 hours a visit but no

I think Victoria Park in Guelph also limits the #of rounds a member can play to 70 per year. They don't include club events as part of the total, so 70 rounds is quite a few. They are trying to eliminate the golfer that plays 120 rounds per year, no question. Probably the unrestricted just means no time restrictions, that's why the maximum 70 rounds still applies, they probably should have come up with better wording.

Same type of thing happened at King's Forest/Chedoke.

IMO these restrictions are indicicative of someone who knows little about marketing.

Realistically, how many people play over 70 full rounds per year at the same course. A lot of Retirees might, but few of them are paying this kind of coin to play a public course.

Why have this rule when it really only affects a small minority of the membership.

I would rather have an extra 20 members that play 120 rounds per year than lose them to another course.

They both did it but it didn't last....as well, I believe Penn Lakes did it a few years ago to try to get all the retired guys to quit playing 150 rounds plus a year.

I no longer play courses until they are 3-5 years old so I can wait on this one.

Yea, and seniors usually pay less for their membership.

Here's the official response from the course.

The 'unrestricted' applied to tee times. We did try and clarify it on the site. At the the time of our original posting we had anticipated that our club house would be finished and the members would have the benefit of the facilities - club storage, showers etc. As we will not be able to start the clubhouse because of permit issues we may have to revisit the whole membership scenario. As clarified on the site, any potential members will have full disclosure, in writing, of all the benefits, priveleges, restrictions etc for the various types of membership prior to signing up. As the 'rates and fees' drop down box states, we had posted our 'proposed' rates. We will have all the finalized rates and fees on our site by the end of March prior to booking any tee times.

I apologize for any misunderstanding our posting may have caused.

Regards,

Bryan DeCunha

hmmm, no clubhouse in '08? Hopefully the Rates will be lower than published...that way we can PLAY for less until THEY build the (obligatory) CLUBHOUSE! ;)

I think that's what he's saying between the lines. I'm also impressed that the top dog answered my email very quickly.
