For anyone who has never done it, marshalling is something you have to do once. It can be a load of fun. The CPGA is already looking for volunteers for the 08 Open at the Abbey, so I encourage anyone who has never done it to sign up. I enlisted all 28 marshalls for the 9th hole at Angus last year and we had a ball because I only took on good guys who knew each other. In fact, why don't you guys take an entire hole like I did? You need a hole captain to take the lead and away you go. Here's the URL http://www.thecanadianopen.ca/default.aspx . The only thing is you have to practise every night saying " STAND DOWN PLEASE"

Can you do one day only? Or do you have to be there all 4 days?
Also, do you get to move to different hole if you marshall for more than one day?

It's actually 7 days. 2 pro ams, 1 practise day and 4 days of tournament. Practise and pro ams are the best as everyone is loose and the pros will goof around with you. You are assigned to one hole and will have a 1/2 shift almost every day depending on how many marshalls you have for the hole. The beauty is that after your shift you can wander around with your uniform on and stay inside the ropes on other holes.

It's the expression we're taught to use to get the gallery to stop moving while a player is preparing to play a shot. I'm actually amazed that sometimes a fan is walking on a path 100 yards away and the caddie will ask him to stand down.

Congrats you'll love it. BTW they'll tell you no pictures and no autograph requests. That's a crock. During practise and pro am every pro that I asked signed my flag. The tee box is the best place to ask.

I was a marshall last year at the Ladies Cdn open and it was a great experience and I was glad that I did it.
I give two thumbs up for anyone thinking about helping out as a marshall. It gives a different perspective of the game and the players.

There's port a potty at almost every hole. Believe it or not one of our guys who was in the middle of the fairway got the calling and with nowhere to go he dropped his drawers in a small grove and took care of business with thousands of oblivious people around him. He said he was lucky he kept an extra few napkins from lunch.

Can't really afford the time off.
Maybe if they have it at St George's, I will think about being a volunteer in other fashion.
For this year, I'd like to find out which of the TGNers will be marshalling and where and when so that I can go heckle them

I did it both years at the Cdn Open when it was held at Hamilton....having to pay for your official shirt to do a volunteer job is a joke however.
