This looks bad.
I checked our her website at charleyhull.net.
Yes, while Tiger Woods was on Mike Douglas at a very young age, this poor girl is being promoted at an entirely different level.
This is golf meets People magazine meets Brittney Spears' mother and Jessica Simpson's dad.
Golf is a wonderful game. She should pursue it for all of the right reasons (that she wants).
Instead, her website (and undoubtedly her young career) is a trashy promotion in which her mother's photo is right along with this young girl's, and the bios of each of her parents is as prominent as hers.
I am afraid that, by the time she is 18, she will be known for everything but her golfing abilities.

If her father is true to his word, she won't be anything like MW.....she'll be more like Morgan, someone to actually aspire to.

I hope you are right.
As for Morgan, I certainly agree with your assessment..I suppose that's the benefit of coming from an athletically successful family.

THe difference between Morgan's family and MW's is Morgan's parents took care of Morgan first, and worried about her "security" second. Now, because of that Morgan is well on her way in her career and MW is going backwards. Just like the difference between how Billy Ray Cyress has raised his daughter and what Brittnay's/Jamie Lynn's mother did.

SInce she has already won a couple of events according to the report it seems her scores are good enough to compete AND win, even if her balance isn't perfect at 11 years old.
Nice to know you can determine her future by looking at a 4 minute CNN report.:hush:

Agree with you completely...the kid is 11 years old for cryin' out loud...give her a break already.
By 16 she'd most likely be walking all over the lot of us with her game.

.....and her balance issues will be addressed by then as well I would imagine. I actually thought her clubs looked to big for her, at least her driver anyway, which would contrbute to her balance issues.
I think where people go "wrong" here is they don't really grasp that these are just plain old regular kids because they are watching them on TV/internet. I can give example after example of kids I worked with in minor hockey who get all disconbobulated around this age and by 15-16 they have grown out of it and "all of a sudden" they are now gracefull skaters whereas 2 years prior they looked like they were skating with 2 cinder blocks on their feet.
I was impressed with her father said regarding letting her continue to be a kid and play golf as a serious hobby. I didn't look at her web site though. Anyway, I hope for the kids sake the parents don't get caught up in the potential hype she may create in the future.

Whatever. If Wie decided to forego school and play full time, the pundits will say she should have stayed in school and get a backup plan.

.....and her balance issues will be addressed by then as well I would imagine. With the following Professional HELP I would think she would have balance by now throughout her swing, considering she is now 11 years old and started to hit golf balls when she was only 2. She has been swinging clubs now for 9 years and counting
Coaches Charley Hull’s long-time coach is Kettering’s Kevin Theobald, with whom she receives lessons twice a week. Hull has also received some tuition on her short game from Iain Poulter’s coach Lee Scarbrow and former European Tour winner Mark Mouland. Her web site: http://www.charleyhull.net/

I am very surprised at the responses on this thread. THe girl is 11 years old and it seems many people think her golf swing should be better than it is? So she falls out of balance, big deal! She shoot lower scores than the rest of the field she plays against.
In 5 -7 years when she has more or less finished growing is when you would really consider her lack of balance an issue IMO. Right now she needs to play and do what comes naturally, whether it is mechanically correct or not.
Funny when MW went to Leadbetters and got instruction up the wazoo her game got worse. Let the girl enjoy herself and play the game the way she sees fit. There is plenty of time for lessons!!
In one of the GAO magazines last year there was an article with Tigers first golf coach that he had until he was in his early teens, and you know what he worked on with Tiger during his 5 or so years with him? NOTHING.....that's what. THe teacher knew from day one with TIger the kid was special and he didn't want to mess with it. In terms of swing mechanics the teacher was quoted in the article saying he did not manipulate any aspect of Tigers swing, and in his words he said he didn't need to, as Tiger could shoot par golf (on a par 3 course) by the time he was 5 years old.
What he did do with TIger is play lots and lots of "fun" games that was the beginning of Tiger's creativity. They had lots of chipping and pitching "contests" and he played with Tiger on the course mostly. What he didn't do was to pick apart every little mechanical flaw he had between ages 5 -13.
In fact Tiger had very little manipulation of his "natural" swing until he started working with Butch. He did have extensive coaching from Earl on the mental side of the game, and spent more time goofing around with little pitch and chip shots, which is why Tiger has one of the best short games ever!
Man....Jack Nicklaus didn't even start playing golf until he was 10, and didn't decide to persue golf as a career until he was in his late teens. He wanted to play football.
Who knows how far this girl will go, but to critique her like she was already a proven tour player is ridiculous. SHe may decide when she is 17 years old she doesn't even want to play professionally.
So she falls out of balance in her follow through? Who cares, she has already won tournaments, which is more than 99.9% of us hacks can claim. I would fall out of balance all over the place if I could win a tournament, and I'm 42, not 11.

If I understand your reasoning correctly TourIQ, you are assuming that because she has been swinging clubs for 9 years now "and counting" that "she would have balance by now thoughout her swing"?
I think you are dead wrong for assuming this. At eleven, "Charley" has not yet developed all her muscles that are need to fully stabalize her body throughout her swing. As she ages, and her body grows, so will her stability muscles which will engrain proper balance into her swing.
As many have said, she is only 11-years-old...her body hasn't even THOUGHT about maturing yet...let's hold comment untill she can fully utilize her body in her swing mechanics.
Cheers!

Hold comment until she can utilize her body in the swing mechanics? The girl was put on CNN and had her own website developed for publicity right NOW; not in the future. If those means are in the public domain, she is open to praise AND criticism. Some people will invariably have praise or criticism, but to say that people can't criticize because she is an eleven year girl is ridiculous. That's something her parents should have considered before trying to hype her up in the media.

"Not much to aspire to..." Give your head a shake. She's 18 years old, going to one of the finest universities in the US, already has a life time of memories playing in crazy golf tournaments all over the world and has made over 20 million dollars. All this fame and fortune and no signs falling off the deep end like other famous, wealthy celebrities (no head shaving yet) around her age. People are far too critical of MW in my mind. The glass is more than half full!

Sure she has $20 million in the bank, and I am sure she would have a lot more self gratification if she had of delivered on her end. MW is now being left behind professional speaking by several of the LPGA young girls / ladies. Michelle left many a tournament either complaining of injury or in tears, which usually meant they needed a different caddie
Michelle 'like you know' earned her way into a top university, so great on her academic accomplishment.
Sure Charlie's dad says they are taking it easy [ya right], and sorry if I am a little skeptical of motive$ here . How many 11-year old kids need a continual diet of ELITE professional coaching twice weekly, and a top notch web site for their marketing efforts? Give me a Break :hush:

WHo knows how and why her parents did what they did. Time will tell though. All I was trying to say is give the kid a break. Go ahead and critisize her parents if you want, but leave the little girl alone. She seems like she really likes the game and has already had some success at it, so who cares if her swing isn't perfect!!
It's just a nice little story, and I don't understand why people want to find fault with something that should bring a smile to everyones face. There are certainly more important and valid subjects in the world to critisize than an 11 year old girl who has shown an above average ability to play a game.

Above what you quoted from my previous post I was clearly talking about her stability in her swing. There's absolutely no point whatsoever criticising an 11-year-old's stability. No, not because you shouldn't be criticising an 11-year-old but because I can guarantee you that not one 11-year-old has solid stability throughout every swing. It is physically impossible. Saying that an 11-year-old has poor stability is a "Moo" point. It has not substance to it.
