Just curious to see if anyone on here does business in China, Taiwan, HongKong, Macao.

I lived in China, HongKong, Macao for a long time before I moved to North America for almost 18 years. I got lots of higher education here and is a great golf player ( low handicapper ). My wife wants to move back to Asia since she is home-sick even though we go back to visit there every year or two years.

I think the economy is very blooming in Asia, now, maybe it is a good time to go back to do some jobs there. So I am casually looking for a new job there.

Many thanks.

Ian,
I live in Shanghai and Hong Kong as I do business in both. The economy is booming and jobs are easy to find if you have skills in this market. One of the keys for Chinese people in China is that they speak, read and write Mandarin (Pontunghau). Even in HK this skill will greatly increase your chances of a job.
I am not Chinese and am employeed in China and in HK as an expat.
If you are looking to move to China as a "expat" or foreign expert, the opportunities are many if their is demand for your professional field. HK has much more limited options for expats because little of no manufacturing occurs there anymore. It's a banking and sales office haven much like downtown Toronto.
But doing business in China is very different than North America. It is not easy or swift. If you are used to a North American business environment the adjustment is not always easy. PArt of living here as an expat means constantly meeting people who are leaving. Some because their contract is finished and many because the really do not like living here or doing business here. That being said some people come and never leave. If you can make the cultural adjustments and be successful, the money is obviously good and lifestyle can be very interesting.
Hong Kong is not very similar to the rest of China in my opinion, it quite different and must be experienced to believe the energy in one city.
Enjoying China may depend on where you can find employment. Many expats like Shanghai or Shenzhen but do not like places like Wuhan, Guangzhou or Dalian. Opinions on Beijing are split in my experience. While their is a large expat community and interesting jobs, the city is not for everyone.
Hope that helps.
Pud.

Agree with everything Pud has to say. I am involved in a web based business in the education field based in Beijing but do not personally spend much time there. What are your qualifications and areas of interest?

Things are really blowing up in other parts of SE Asia as well, namely Vietnam.

I worked there a few years ago and was surprised at how skilled and efficient the workers were. I would definitely look to Vietnam as an alternative to China, especially in terms of manufacturing and textiles.
