View Full Version : Am I a poser.

I won a Callaway X series cart bag on ebay last night, and I showed it to a few guys at work. They started asking me if I was a pro, and bugging that I shouldn't have a bag like that. I am about a 20 handicap, and looking to improve. Taking lessons this year aswell. I bought the bag because I like the style, and I am a Callaway man. I own Fusion iron's and an FT-3 driver. So I ask you does this make me a poser (trying to look like I know how to golf). Or am I just a guy that has nice taste, and like's nice things even if I can't use them lol.
BTW: Here's the bag. Was $140 shipped from the US an ok deal on this? Last second impulse buy. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c396/t_dog_lxi/ccc3_1.jpg

The guys at work at meat-heads. What everybody forgets is that there are plenty of golfers out there that are better than all of us. If your buddys at work (or some of the 'elite' golfers on here) were as good as they think they are, they wouldn't be working with you, or posting on these forums...they'd be out making some cash.

I wouldnt worry about your buddies....tell them to give their head a shake. Buy whatever you want...whether your a 'player' or not makes no difference. The main thing with golf is that you enjoy it and have fun. The fact that you like nice things has no bearing on it whatsoever.
By the way.....nice bag. :p

I use a Hogan Staff bag periodically and never think about that issue. Tell them to go pound salt with a wire brush.

Yup. You're a poser and the only solution is to sell me that bag asap. I'll give you $20.;)

I have the Black version of the same bag and love it! Don't worry what your friends say - I'm no where near a good golfer and I carry that bag and use X-forged clubs! :)

Everybody makes fun of the guy with the 'Tour' bag:
Staff/cart bag that matches the clubs... I believe the comment is 'million dollar bag and 2 cent swing', or something like that.
I say tell 'em to stuff it. I've been practicing, as this year I'm heading out with an Ogio Exodus on my ClicGear push cart.

When I first played with my boss he'd been playing for most of his life and I had been playing for a few months. (this was almost 3 years ago)
He said when I showed up to the golf course that I looked like I'd been playing for years. Yeah I had the right clothes expensive equipment, nice golf bag. Yeah I may be a poser but I don't care what anyone else thinks. If I can't look good hittin em. I can look good strolling down the fairway.:D

Sweet bag. Really, use what you like. Nobody says you have to be a pro to use pro equipment.
If we were to use that argument though, that really looks like a cart bag to me and not a Staff bag.

The better I look, the better I play. Dress for success...

It all depends on how you dress on the golf course. For example, if you wear $300 dress slack in 30C weather to play golf, then you might be a poser.

Hey T Dog, I had a similar deal on eBay with my Srixon tour bag (link to a similar bag below). I got my bag and 2 fairway woods for $125 delivered. My reason for getting it was the extra storage for stuff I use for lessons, plus I do use the Srixon ball.
The bottom line is that YOU like the looks of the bag. It doesn't matter what your buddies think (or anyone else for that matter). And the bag doesn't signify how good a player you are, just that you enjoy style. Posing? NOT!

Dude,
They are just jeleous. That is one really nice golf bag. And a great cart bag at that.
They all want one for themselves and that is all. Tell em to pound sand and take some beers off them on the course this season.

It's a nice bag, but it's not even a tour bag...your friends are idiots...I have a Cleveland tour bag because i loved the look and got it for $100, not really practical for me to take on the course, but i use it to store extra clubs and stuff...

That's so true lol. Thanks guys. I'm not as much worried about waht they think. I was just wondering if it was sort of an unwritten rule so to speak. You know, like young guys driving BMW's that thier mommy's bought them that think they are cool.
Tell them to take it up with your caddy. :p
Just got back from a Caribbean cruise, stopped off in Montego Bay Jamaica. Went golfing at a course called Cinnamon Hill. I guess it's requierd to have a caddy, as hit helps create jobs. Anyway's they know thier stuff. Wouldn't mind having a regular caddy all the time. Any takers lol. I'll give you a callaway golf bag lol.

I never understood why people want to hack on the guy with a nice tour type bag. They're large, roomy and many look pretty good. I prefer to walk so they aren't practicle for me.
I wish someone would make a nice looking one that wasn't a walking advertisment for some golf company.

Whaaaaat????
....more than a few of "your friends" would say you're better than a "good golfer"....as the number of prizes you've collected from tournaments over the years would also indicate!!! :)

Ha, I play with a custom fit set worth more than $2k, use a combo of semi-cav's and blades, and I was about a 30 handicap in the summer.
You get what you like and can afford. Nobody is going to make me feel inferior because of my nice clubs, not when my game is so terrible.
I agree though, dress for success/look the part, whatever.

Nice looking bag, if you like it then that is good enough, those guys at work...who cares what they think. You will have lots of room for extra clothing, etc should you need it when out on the course during questionable weather.
LOL at davepratts' comment....$20...Nice!!!:D

Although I have never had an interest in a cart bag, I will just reiterate what others have said (since this is the internet, after all):
a. if it makes you happy, great. Therefore, don't give it a second thought.
b. it is a nice bag.
In fact, yesterday I was at GT, and the guy in front of me had just picked up a really nice PING Tour bag...apparently, it was regularly $400+, and it was on sale for $150.
When I saw it, my reaction wasn't "what a poser". Rather, it was "nice bag, and at a great price!".

Not a chance. Unless the price is right, or I can trade for a similar Fusion bag (Orange/Black).
I guess I confused what I was trying to say when I started the thread. I'm not worried what people think, but I just wanted to know if the golfing world thought the same as the people at my work place. Maybe there was something I missed along the way.
But either way, I am keeping the bag, and regardless of how much they may bug me, I'd never sell the bag due to being bugged or laughed at. ;)
BTW: If they did say yes, and I did want to seel it, how much would you offer lol.
