Most courses are now advertising for seasonal openings. I have heard that if you take a few unpaid shifts as a marshall you get playing privileges at off hours. Anybody have any experience with this? I know a guy last year who spent 3 hours answering phones at Clublink on Saturday or Sunday morning and got full off hour playing privileges at any Clublink Track. A hard gig to get however.

My dad has been a starter/marshall forever, just for the free golf. He works one full 6-7 hour shift a week, they treat him like any member.

Most courses I've been around offer similar deals, work a certain number of hours, you get free rounds. Last year I worked at the Quarry GC up here in the Peterborough area and they gave the starters and marshalls free vouchers for an 18 hole round. The only caveat was they shouldn't sell them in the parking lot or while on shift. One guy did that late in the season and won't be coming back apparently.

I took up golf last year at the tender age of 52! Getting ready for retirement... Got seriously addicted to the game and colud not quite get enough of it. Practived each day at a local soccer field. Took lessons at a local course..just for fun I asked the pro if the course needed any assistance. He related that set-up and take down for tournaments was a very busy time. Well after actually showing them a great work ethic and being able to things without beng told...i.e. Riksha hand cart maintenance, golf cart maintenance, doing the crap jobs withojut question... I am a "Pet" at the course. I work when I can and without being asked. I am quick to take a shift when they call.

In exchange, I get to golf when I want, use the practice facilities when I want, get discounts at the pro-shop and have a ball to say the least. After working hard at my real job during the day it is also fun to interact and teach youngsters in the art of W O R K ! Don't get me wrong I work very hard for the great treatment.

Choose your Clublink course carefully if you're looking for free golf as a perk. I doubt if the guys at Wyndance ever got out for a full 18 holes.

Another point - your chances of booking a round elsewhere as a Clublink staff member are close to zero - it just doesn't happen these days.

That is true, I was shocked at what the Marshalls are offered on their days off. Twiglights at Caledon Woods on a Monday.

We are looking for a few good marshalls/players assisntants whatever you like to call them.

We do not pay a wage, just a trade for free golf. We like to tell everone that we need them for 2 shifts per week (7 hours each), and most of the time we stay under that and only give them one. This way they aren't surprised come June when the place is a madhouse.

We allow are guys to book tee times anytime Monday - Thursday, as if they were a normal golfer (we figure if we paid them cash they would do this any way). The guys feel privilege because at most courses you can only play after 4:00 or something.

They can not book a time on weekends, but if they show up at 1:00 or later and the tee is open they can go ahead. Oh, and we also let them bring out one guest a month complimentary, or if they have stepped up and gone the extra mile for me I will get them to invite a couple friends out to play on me as long as its slow.

If you are looking, we need about 3 people.

What a great offer. Unfortunately it's too far for me to go. Thanks

I'm definitely interested! Although I'd only be available on weekends, I do live close by (Pleasant Valley area), and think you have a great course. Should I p.m. you?

The course I work at, Rattlesnake Point, is having a job fair on February 23rd from 10:00 - 2:00 at the golf club. We are looking for starters, marshalls, locker stewards, and backshop attendants. All positions are paid. We ask our service staff to work 2-3 6 hour shifts per week if possible. All of the positions are paid positions, as well as free golf privelages at all Clublink courses. We treat our staff well and always make sure they can golf. Becuase we have 2 18-hole courses, it is easier for our staff to play than most other courses. Most of our staff golf once a week, usually weeday mornings or weekend twilight. PM me if you are interested, and I can give you more details on the job fair.

Hi,

Im in charge of all the marshalls and starters at Millcroft Golf course in Burlington. It's a short par 70, which is always kept well and the greens are great.

Our marshalls are not paid but you work two weekday six hour shifts or one weekend 8 hours shift. Then you can play pretty much whenever you want. You can only book one day in advance though. But we do our best to get you in and playing as much as you like.

Great place to work, friendly staff and management. If anyone is interested have still got some shifts left. Just send me a private message.

Thanks Raynor

I think it's because us east enders are much better behaved on the golf course and hence require fewer marshalls.;) I've got the feelers out, so hang tight I'll get us some leads. I just talked to the national president of Yes golf formerly of Titleist and he's well connected so I'll see what he knows.
