Apparently EBAY is removing the ability of sellers to rate buyers but it is keeping the ability of buyers to rate seller.

Hope it happens. I am an ebay junkie. The feedback system is flawed, it's like hostage taking. As a buyer, you fear leaving negative feedback so you don't get it in return. This would allow honest reviews of sellers and protect all buyers in the future.

I use e-bay too, although am not a "junkie". I was not aware that sellers could rate buyers. I guess the only valid argument is if someone wins an auction and doesn't pay, which would be a hassle to list the auction again. I have actually seen this happen a lot with the more expensive items, mostly cars. I guess someone makes a bid figuring it may be beaten anyway and when they win they really don't want to pay $25000 or whatever it is.

Other than that I would agree that sellers rating buyers is not necessary. I bought a pair of skates about a month ago and had to give the guy a bad rating because he sent the wrong size. My son will eventually use the skates so I am not that p/o'd because they were in great condition and were a really good deal, but I was surprised when I gave a negative feedback I didn't hear from the seller.

I was kind of expecting at least an e-mail about the poor rating, and at best and appology, but nothing came of it. His rating did go down from 100% to 99.3% or something like that, so I guess he doesn't care.

I've always refused to give a seller feed back until they give me feed back as I completed my part of the transaction first.

As a seller, I've always rated the buyer as soon as I've been paid.

I think the new policy will bring every miserable crank out of the closet.

It will bring seller ratings down quite a bit I think but the best sellers will get the best ratings, as it should be. There won't be many 100%s anymore, I think but we'll see more of a true bell curve with seller ratings.

I think it may slow down sales for awhile but I'm sure Ebay must have seen a problem they needed to fix to make a drastic change like that.

It should be optional. If I like the buyer then I should be able to leave positive feedback for that.

It sounds like a parking meter attendant, you are guilty and cannot respond.

Seems somewhat unfair.

Any system that requires you (currently on ebay) to leave a seller good feedback or else they will retaliate is silly. This change is long overdue. For every person here who doesn't agree, they must not buy alot on ebay. I have bought over a hundred items and trying to maintain a perfect 100% feedback rating, which I have, is hard.
There have been times where a seller didn't do what they promised, or misled a bit on quality of items and instead of calling them out, I posted a positive fb because I know people who when leaving negative get the same in return.

Besides, 99% of the time the only responsibility of a buyer is to pay on time. Thats it. Why would you need to rate that?
hmm? this buyer is awesome!! They bought something and ...wait...get this...paid for it!!! wow!!!!
silly

I have bought over 130 items and have a 100% positive. I only buy. Does this affect my feedback? ie, my rating is 110 or so. If the seller can't rate me anymore, will my number never go up from here?

From eBay

Doesn't TGN work of the same type of system?

Do you do the samething here on TGN?

Do we need this change also for the TGN Buy/Sell ratings?

This is a serious problem on ebay for sellers. A real pain in the ***.

Totally agree with you.....I was overcharged by $11 for shipping of an item I won on ebay, and when I requested a refund and didnt get it, I left neg feedback.....and got it in return.Hope it happens. i was wondering if you mean $11 over actual shipping cost or they charged you $11 more then what was listed for shipping and handling to your location?

Handling is a fee that is an accepted business practice in most all industries but can be hidden. You probably know that but just in case.
