A pretty good field this week at the historical Riviera with 18 of the top 20 world ranked players entered. PGA Tour season debuts for Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Geoff Ogilvie to name a few. Should be a pretty good tournament with all these top players. Only missing Tiger and Els, but atleast that gives a chance for everyone else right? Its funny though, the winner of this tournament is all of a sudden going to be a favourite next to Tiger to win the Masters. Who's your favourite to win this week?

Mr. Weir has had tremendous succe$$ @ this tourney!
...but I rather like Mr. Baddeley or Mr. Scott or someone else from Down Under! :)

Scott or Sergio would be good for the hype.

Rose would be great too.

I keep waiting for the young guys to catch fire adn charge after Tiger but this will probably never happen.

Tiger is what he is. The best ever.

Sorry, ignorant question of the day: Did Nissan give it up for financial reason? I didn't think they would given the publicity with Riviera and LA. Until I saw the Northern Trust CEO at Pebble, didn't even know the title sponsor was switched.

I'm pulling for Scott and Garcia, hopefully they can have a good year. I don't know exactly what happened to the Nissan sponsorship, but presume it was monetary.

It's apparently because they moved their U.S. headquarters from California to Tennessee.

Thats interesting... the Phoenix Open's title sponsor is FBR... FBR doesn't even have an office in Phoenix. There's got to be more of a story than a move to Tennessee.

Kevin Na with the early clubhouse lead at 5 under. Is it me or has Kevin Na been the most quietly, underrated guy who consistently has quality finishes? He started out last year on Tour and if I recall, this year, he`s been having a great year so far. 15th is FedEx points and two top 10`s so far.

KJ, Phil, Padraig, Donald all up there in the leaderboard.

I'd like to see KJ win this. Someone on TGC was noting a while back that KJs successes have come against weaker fields. With the strong field this week, he can squash that criticism, and hopefully gain the confidence to win a major this year.

I`m surprised TGC would note that. Didnt KJ win last year at the Memorial and Arnie`s tourny? Those werent exactly week fields. His win at the Sony this year may not have had the top guys but any win is still impressive. Not like he played poorly and won, he played very well and won. TGC needs to give more respect to KJ.

Surprised to see Goosen and Furyk so far down the leaderboard.

Surprised to see Goosen so far down the leaderboard.

He's still on tour, I thought he disappeared last year!???
(i.e., he cost me some $$$ in fantasy pools!) :(

Phil is having a solid tournament -- but a nice round by Quinney yesterday. It's looking like a two-man race today ... a nice showing by both considering the strength of the field.

Phil's looked good at times this year -- I wouldn't be surprised to see him win a major this year.

I thought for sure Quinney would get overpowered by Phil but Quinney's nice round of 67 has him just one shot back. It will be interesting to see how he does today. If you missed Quinney's ace here it is (http://www.ottawagolfblog.com/2008/02/jeff-quinney-stays-in-contention-with.html).

I think KJ is using a Cameron this week I'll find a picture from the third round for you.

Good for Phil... I'm glad he finally pulled things together and got the "W"... he needed it after three poor showings (Buick, FBR, Pebble).

Great to see Phil win. Hopefully he's back on his game -- it will be great for golf if Phil can make some noise in majors again.

It was a great weekend all around -- the best of the year so far -- with Phil winning on the PGA tour, and Annika getting back in the winner's circle again.

A second place, coming from behind at the FBR, is a bad showing?

Second place isn't too bad at all, but when you're the hometown favourite and in a playoff against a less experienced player (no knocks against JB Holmes) second place doesn't quite cut it.

...less experienced overall, but certainly experienced on THAT track!!! ;)
