View Full Version : Worst thing you've done on a golf course

OK let's see how many Gn's are willing to bare their souls.
What have you done on a golf course that you wish you could take back? Mine is as vivid as if it happened yesterday. I flubbed a 9 iron into the creek on #10 at the old IBM course and in front of important customers, I threw the club in the air and it stuck in the tree. It took about 10 minutes for me to get it back using a ball retriever and standing on a power cart. Not a pretty sight and it's the last time I ever tossed a club.

Let me count the ways.
Whacked a ball with putter after choking on short putt.
Thrown clubs
Impaled clubs
Sworn with particular vehemence
But my all timer was when after playing with atrocious bunker conditions for most of a summer, I was in the bottom of a particularly deep greenside bunker and trying to hit out of densely packed sand as well as someone elses footprint, hit what I thought was a pretty good shot and it caught the edge of the bunker. I calmly hit again, raked the bunker and then heaved that @#@#$@#$ rake about 50 feet up a tree. Far as I know it is still there. I swear I almost had an aneurysym I was so pissed off.:cookoo:

Hit a particularly easy flop shot really Fat and missed the green by a good 6 feet in dense fescue. Was so pissed that I had just killed my first opportunity to score under 80 ever. I took the 64* wedge and swung at a big oak tree like it was baseball sitting on top of Tee-ball stand. Broke the head not the shaft believe it or not.

two come to mind.

1. In high School I had intercourse with a lovely young waitress on the 9th green at the Island Brae golf course.....it was dusk.

2. On vacation in South Carolina one March with my gf ( now my wife) playing a par 5 at Pawleys Plantation, having a really solid round, get to the greenside bunker in two, leave a couple in the bunker............after the second I break my wedge over my knee and in the process hit myself so hard in the testicles that I can barely get back to the cart. my wife finishes the hole and when returns to the cart I literally have tears in my eyes......she says I shouldnt take the game so seriously.

I dont recall having intercourse that nite:nono:

I hate to admit it, but in my younger days; when I thought I had game, I missed a 3 foot putt. Upon getting upset, I swung the putter and shaved half a foot of Grass off the top of the green.

I have seen people inmpale putters into the green, Ground, and once saw a fist fight break out.

I think most golfers have tossed a club in anger at one point.

I've never really done anything too bad... threw a putter once and threw a ball into the middle of a pond... pretty mild. I can however tell a story of a fellow TGN'er who did something absolutely NASTY... while playing late in the season last year, my buddy got a little "bubbling" feeling in his stomach... couldn't wait to hit the bathroom and dropped a deuce in the woods! Absolutely disgusting! I won't mention names, but thats the worst thing I've ever heard of on a golf course.

I was golf with my bf at the time and had just finished a really crappy week at work. I knew I wasn't in the best frame of mind to play golf but I did anyways. By the 4th hole I was really mad at myself because I was playing so bad. I took out my 3 wood and topped the ball, my bf made a stupid comment. I swung my 3 wood and hit my golf bag. I must admit I felt more relaxed after doing it but at the next tee box I pulled out my driver and had snapped the shaft when I hit the bag with my 3 wood.

I learnt my lesson and have never done that again. :nono:

I have a freind who did the same at a CL course. To top it off though, he asked the cart Girl for some napkins, and then walked directly into the woods.

It was pretty comical. He sure did fertilize the "land".

Playing at Indian Wells just north of Burlington, hole 11 I think, bombed a great drive within 50 of the pin, bladed my wedge over the green, blasted my 3rd shot over the green again, chipped to 4 feet, turned around and tossed my wedge towards my bag. It hit the cart path once, then bounced into the pond which is front right of the green..... great bogey.:confused:

my buddy got a little "bubbling" feeling in his stomach... couldn't wait to hit the bathroom and dropped a deuce in the woods!
I have seen a buddy of mine do the same thing, however before he wandered into the woods he grabbed something out of his bag. After completing the transaction we asked what he was doing. He explained about making a deposit, I asked about the stop at his bag. His reply was this: "to get the extra socks I carry just in case of a blister or something like this":eek:

About 3 yrs ago I was at home in Sudbury playing Timber-Wolf with my nephew. We encountered a few idiots behind us hell bent in hitting into us.

After 4 holes of them hitting into us and me trying to reason with them I got pissed.
The course people weren't doing anything so I decided to get into the cart and drive back to them and reason with them. We'll that failed because in 3 more holes the one guy that was an a/hole almost hit my nephew with his drive.

Well I've been know to have a short not very rational temperment, I got back in my cart drove back to the tee box, looked at the a/hole, walked over to him, grabbed his driver out of hand and slapped it in front of him. Yeah, not smart, but like I said, hot headed Italian with a short fuse.

Told him the next time it would be his fingers I would break. Well he didn't know want to do other than just look at me. His buddy's stood there and never said a word, our back 9 was great and never saw them again. My nephew just looked at me and didn't know what to say other than it was my turn to hit.

I've never thrown a club or broken one out of anger and only beat myself up verbally when not playing well but certain things I just lose it sometimes.

Good one. Most idiots that make a habit of hitting in to the group infront of them, because of thier childish impatience, don't seem to realize that alot of the time the people they are hitting in to can't go any faster due to the group infront of them. Even if the group infront is slow the last thing anyone should do is smack a ball in to them. Maybe these idiots should have half a brain and just ask to be let through. If the group won't let them through then skip a hole or something. If you don't have the patience to wait then make a habit of visiting courses early when you can be first off or during twilight when there are very few out on the course.

Growing up a "tennis family", during the Nastase/McEnroe era, I was known to throw the racket around, and frequent temper tantrums...thankfully I only did this when playing against my father....so, when I started playing golf, MOST of this was out of my system..I've still tomahawked the odd club into the ground, thrown balls into water, but golf has made me a lot calmer than tennis ever did! :$

I think the ONE thing that still gets me going, is when my father tries to give me 'tips/lessons' on the course when I mis-hit a shot, you'll hear me talking to myself when he does this! :(

I've witnessed others get real nasty. I've seen people get hit by balls that partners have hit, but the SINGLE incident I remember most, was when I was about 17, me and some buddies were drinking beer (Molson Diamond!), on the road that leads to a gate that is on the fairway to #3 at Don Valley, it was winter, and the gate was open, my buddy drove his car on to the fairway (we couldn't tell for sure, it was dark and snowy), and did a few 'donuts', then we left. I played golf there regularly, and can remember seeing what looked like 'donuts' on the fairway there next spring! :$

My worst was in a fit of rage in MB about 9 years ago.

We were playing at River Hills and I hit a hosel rocket straight into a pond right of the tee on a 150 yard par 3. The anger came from the fact that I just announced that the "pond wasn't in play". So, after dumping my tee shot into the pond, I proceeded to throw my 7 iron as far as I could towards the hole. The problem was that I held onto the club too long and threw it more left than straight. Well, there was a very wide swamp/river behind the trees beside the tee box. Of course, my 7 iron completely cleared the trees and came down about 50 yards away and to the left - right in the middle of the pond. The club travelled farther than my ball BTW. Also, the swamp/river was lined with Alligator warning signs so my 7 iron was gone for good. TO top it off this was our second day and I had to play the rest of the week without a 7 iron.

The rest of my foursome had great fun reminding me that I needed a 7 iron every time I was 150, or so, out.

Lesson learned as I've never thrown a club again...

Worst thing so far I've done happened last fall at Tam O Shanter, it was a pretty slow day, its ok for me as long as they don't really take TOO much time playing, so I was walking down the fairway of the 5th fairway then all of a sudden a ball dropped behind me, I looke and this group behind us starts teeing off, we're not even pass half of the whole, so we all looked and gave them a sign not to tee off yet, so we let it go, a few holes later another ball almost hit one of our playing partners, from the same group. This 1 guy keeps teeing off even though he knows we're still on range! So we let it go for a bit, few holes later again it almost hit my dad! so now im getting really pissed, we keep telling them not to tee off, but this guy keeps doing it. so for the last time, we let it go. comes 18th hole, 2 of our playing partners are still before the mound clearing the 200 yard mark, and I looked back and this guy teed off again! and he almost hit one of the guys behind me, and they were shouting already! they wanted to throw his ball somewhere, but they let it go, comes the lay up shot at the bottom of that hill, i was standing in front of the water as I have chose to lay it up there for a good 3rd shot, then a ball dropped in front of me! FRONT of my foot, it could've almost hit me. So I said that's it, threw his BALL to the water and left that side of the hole, he came driving with a cart asking us where his ball is and no one answered. I know I am wrong by throwing his ball, sometimes he needs to understand "STOP". I think thats the pretty worse thing I've done so far...

Ok here goes, 2 years ago I was with a few buddies at a course which will remain unamed. We were driving to the 15th hole and my buddy being a huge Formula One fan loves to drive like a maniac. I was driving at the time and we passed a nice sharp turn, I think nothing of it a kept on making my way to the next hole. He turns to me a says why don't you go back and take that at full speed. Ok, this turn, if going slow was paved just enough to make it, needless to say I turned the cart around and took the turn full out! My buddy is a big boy and was on the outside. You guessed it I rolled the cart right on top of him breaking his leg and a few other grusome injuries. I landed standing straight up with not a scratch on my body. At first I thought I broke his neck, he wasn't moving and it looked pretty bad.

This cart was BRAND SPANKING NEW, course was only a few months old. The sound echoed throughout the course, I am surprised nobody came to see. Anyhow, after about 10 minutes of him lying there, we were scared the next group would have approached and called it in (the cart was killed) so we got him up and asked how he was feeling, he said not good................

This is the best part, we made him take the next tee shot, you know just to be certain ;) , which he stated hurt real bad. We then continued (only 3 of us) to finish the remaining 4 holes  with him barking in the cart beside me.

About 45 minutes later, we finished and left the cart in the middle of the parking lot (Can't believe I never got a call from the course). With his leg swollen like a balloon, I figured it was my duty to take him to the hospital to get fixed up.

Lesson: Golf comes before injuries :p

I'm sorry to report this, but I can't remember doing anything on a golf course that I'd like to take back. Just a boring guy I suppose.
However, I was in a group with someone who wishes he could take back something. I was playing a military course in Maryland. The course was pretty crowded and play was pretty slow, but steady. One of the guys in my group was a bit of a jacka$$ and couldn't wait to hit several times. He was about to hit an approach shot while the group in front was just finishing up and replacing the flag. We convinced him to hang on a sec.
On a par 5, the group in front was about 220 yards in front when he teed it up and started his pre-shot routine. All of us told him the guys were still in range and asked him to wait. Of course, he didn't. The guys in front were just starting to walk when he crushed a line drive. It never hit the ground. The ball bounced off the back of one of the guy's head and he dropped like a stone, totally unconscious. We drove up while the others in his group and the guy's wife were trying to tend to him. I called 911 and asked for an ambulance and police. About 10 mins later, the ambulance drove onto the fairway. They took him to the base hospital with a concussion and suspected skull fracture. Right after the ambulance arrived, the base police arrived too. The impatient golfer was led away wearing some new bracelets.

OK.....my concience is getting to me. I have always battled my temper, and I think I am FINALLY starting to win the battle, but sometimes it still comes back to haunt me. After a couple of re-shafts the cost and emberassment getting it done smartened me up!! I remember telling the repair guy that the club was driven over by a cart, and then listening to his response to my statement as he pointed out where the break had occured and it was highly unlikely it happened as I said it did.

However....how is this one???? For about 6-7 years every night after dinner while I was still living at home I would sneak down to the Donalda club and play from the 7th hole to the 15th. It actually got to the point where the person running the halfway house would stop as they were driving back to the club house for the night to see if I wanted anything as he was going home for the night. I always waved and said "no thanks". Even some of the members started to know me and we would wave back and forth.

One night I was playing and another single joined me!! I was kind of freaking as I couldn't say to him on the 15th green.....thanks for the game.....I'm going home now. So I played all the way to the 18th green and then told him I was going to play a few more holes as there was still some sunlight left.

If you have played the Donalda before you know you can play some of the holes on the one side of the river and easily cross over at the bridge that goes to the 8th tee and play in from 16.

A few years ago we were celebrating a friends birthday, and someone pulled out some mushrooms, now I don't do drugs however I had a lot to drink and this seemed like a great idea at the time. The problem was I had a very early tee time the next morning. After partying like it was 1999, and getting zero sleep, I dragged my sorry butt to Cardinal where I lost 3 clubs, all of my headcovers, and most of my breakfast. My playing partners were NOT at the party the night before...as far as I was concerned I was STILL at the party. I think I shot close to 200 that day (more or less) I know I lost everyball in my bag, and bought more @ the turn.
Anyway, lesson learned...dont do drugs kids, at least not hallucinegens...

Worst thing i ever did was with my buddy when first learning golf up in jacksons point.
I was walking along the fairway with him and gave him one of those jerks of the head guys do, along with a comment "look at that".

His reply "huh?" "what".

Me, "you know, over on that fairway, long blonde hair". His reply "you mean over there" as he pointed directly at my target. I said "yeah, the girl with the nice *** in jean shorts".

It was then that i was informed it was a guy. A hippie druggie like long haired....guy.
My buddy told me to get me eyes check. No lie, I have an excuse, the doctor asked how I had been able to drive blind as a bat.
Thank god for lasik these days.:(

:D I was 18, golfing in Woodstock NB. Pissed rain the night before. My brother was with me as I drove a power cart full speed into lake of rainy swampy muddy water. We went about 10 ft into the puddle (lake). Worst part was, it was a gorgeous day and everyone was having a club BBQ about 50 ft away. They saw us, and we could hear them calling us idiots and other names. I have no idea how they got it out. We tried for a few minutes jumping on the back, and pushing it. They probably towed it out, or waited until it dried up lol. Man we got booted pretty qucik, they didn't even let us finish the 9th :$ . It was like mud bogging in a jeep, only we weren't moving lol.

Since then I've matured (29 now) and don't do stupid **** like that anymore. I yell at the others that do  .

In my early days I tossed a few as well, but I realized it was mostly to make people think I was better than I actually was. Ever notice the people who have the big tantrums when they hit a poor shot have absolutely crappy swings and you think to yourself "buddy with that swing, that's as good as it gets". They want you to think they've got game and that they're just having an off day. Sad

I thinned a tee shot with a 2 iron on the 14th at Lambton one spring. It hit a Goose right in the middle of its neck. Its neck folded over, it walked for a bit dragging its head on the ground or almost on th eground then fell over.

Terrible sight.

Cardinal golf rule. If while looking for a ball in the woods you spot a piece of cloth or golf towel.....stay away.

Ok that story was pretty sick, I mean really sick!!

But this post made me laugh as I pictured a guy rummaging thru the bush using his iron as a weed whacker looking for a lost ball and then *pfft* taking a swat at the pile of napkins on the ground.

It brings new meaning to the phrase "just drop another one and move on"

Funny now when I think back to it but pretty stupid at the time it happened. A bunch of us are golfing (3 foursomes) and at the end of the round, the last group finishes (3 ladies, 1 guy) and they are all upset and steaming. The rest of us ask what happened and it turned out the group behind them was hitting balls into them cause they were slow. They even yelled at them to hurry once in a while.

One of my friends who`s wife was one of the ladies in that last group waits for the group to finish on the 18th and walks up to the group and askes them to apologize for hitting and yelling at the group. The 4 guys deny the fact and say they didnt realize they were so close and made up contradicting reasons. Long story short, the ladies and the 4 guys get into a shouting match and before you know it, all my friends walk towards the argument to see whats happening. Now a couple of my other friends get into it. Now you have 12 people yelling at 4 guys and the argument intensifies. Some profanities are exchanged and even a little shove was thrown but cooler heads prevailed and the starter had to come out and calm things down.

I thought we were going to have a royal rumble on the 18th green. Its funny now but I feel sorry for the group on the tee that was witnessing all of this. The starter ended up telling the guys they should have complained to the marshall instead of hitting into the group. Nothing came out of this but I was definately something you dont see very often after golf.
