I just read an interview in Golf Magazine with Weir. I didn't know that a fan grabbed him around the neck during the final round of the 2004 Canadian Open that caused 2 compressed discs in his lower neck and all of his subsequent problems. Weir says it was between the 10 and 11th holes and the guy was wearing a hockey jersey. He says there a lot of his friends that the guy wouldn't want to see. Local TV was carrying every hole for the Weir group so it's got to be on camera somewhere. There's almost 6000 GN's. Let's see if we can hunt this dog down make his name known publically.

Sounds like a convinient excuse for choking away the Open and having a bad year.

Yes, he was starting to choke quite a bit, look at some of the threads around here...wasn't until a late-season win last year, that most gave him the 'welcome back' signal!;)

Do you forget he won The Masters in 2003?
I also contribute all the "Weir Sucks" threads to the Maple Leafs Fans, who are the FIRST to jump on their own teams back to call them a piece of dirt when they arent playing well. :D
My original post was in response that dbelletrutti is trying to incinuate that only now Mike Weir is making an excuse for a bad season or slump. Convenient that some druken yahoo decides to reach out past the ropes and grab a Pro buy the neck? Yea...it was probably premeditated too.:cookoo:

One thing's for sure, whoever it was was a born-and-bred Canadian. Weir's liked and respected everywhere he goes, but here in Canada, where we like to tear down our heroes, there are people who would rather see him fail than succeed.

I never get that feeling when I'm in Alberta but more so in Ontario.

I'm sure there was no ill intent. Most of the course, and pathways between green and tee are roped off. Between 10 and 11, you have to cross the main entry road in and there was no crowd control from the road to the 11th tee. The guy was just to rough and caught him in an awkward position; Mike had just birdied and was hustling over to the tee. Glad to hear he is doing better and has gotten over his injuries.

I would have to disagree with that. He had a huge following last year at Angus Glen. I followed him for a few holes and he easily had the biggest gallery. This despite Hunter Mahan's incredible round.

Weir says the guys was hammered so ill intent or not it's no accident.
